I'm glad you were able to rescue the octopus! He is adorable without the dark background. I'd have never thought to try to remove the dark layer. Great save!
Hi Julie I'll be honest I like it both ways. The dark purple made them look Encapsulated! I don't know if you ever watch nail art? The product for this type of nail art is similar to resin. And this is called encapsulation. There was just a few more steps that you would have had to do over the dark purple sanding and applying a clear gel top coat to make the gemstones really pop through the color. So I really liked it that way. But I love it this way too! btw it would be totally surprised of the hundreds of ideas you can get watching nail videos. And applying what you saw into your artwork!
Julie, I just thought of a little tip that might help for future experiments. If you are going to experiment with the stone and background colours, including glitter, you could probably use one of your heart molds to see what the final result will be and use and/or waste less resin if it doesn’t turn out… but awesome save on this, he is adorable and who doesn’t love amethyst embedding in a cute octopus??? 💜💜💜 🐙🐙🐙 ☺️
I was trying to think of the name of those stones, I knew it wasn't amethyst. I have a fluorite obelisk on my dresser & it's been driving me crazy trying to remember what it was. So thank you heaps.
You made me pour acrylics several years back and now you make me want to play with resin! I love this one and because I used to do a lot of jewelry I have plenty of stone chips & other beads. He I go down this rabbit hole :) !!! Thank You ( I think lol)
Sweetie, your picking and fiddling are what makes your creations so much better than others'. OMGoodness, you did peel it off! You go girl. You do you! He looks amazing. What a cool idea. xoxoxoxo
Well saved!!!! So appreciate your honesty and showing us the entire process including ups and downs. It is awesome to know that you still have your own disappointments, but wonderful to see how you save those pieces. Occy is GORGEOUS!!!
I think it came out pretty good! It reminded me of an octopus getting away and swimming in an upward motion; that’s the color I see when them swim away. Awesome Sauce!
Hi Julie Great save; he looks great!!! I received your molds- love them!!! They are definitely thicker than the usual molds that are out there. Thank you 😊
Julie I was shaking my head NOOOOO!! when you were talking about doing the purple background color. He looks much better with just the stones. I am wanting to do a turquoise stone Octopus. Just working on getting my stones. Thank you forshowing me what Not to do. Your Octopus looks great as he is
I was screaming in my head when you started putting that dark purple back on. I knew it was going to negate the gems, because it would obliterate the light going through the gems. Glad you got it off.
This one I passed over idk how I didn’t catch it before. Yes you saved this octopus! Oh by the way I can tell the difference in my dogs voices, five of them!❤️❤️❤️
Just a reminder that you can always sand off something like that if it has already cured! it takes some work to get it clear again, but the cloudiness from the sanding can look nice on some pieces too!
Omg you're a trooper for taking the effort to fix it. It turned out great! Well done on another awesome video. I'd like to see bailey and abbie soon the little chatter boxes 💜
I tend to learn the most from my mistakes - what not to repeat. When you were pouring the dark background I was thinking 'we may be about to learn how to remove a resin skimcoat'. If you are unsure about adding a background now maybe place the piece on various colors of paper or fabric. I think it is lovely as-is but I do wonder how it would look with green (to match the eyes), lavender, white, ocean blue, etc. That is definitely a stunning mould, the stones took it to a whole new level. Well done Julie!
He's very cute. Glad you did not edit out the dark background and saved him. I like him much better without the dark background. Good thinking using the heat gun to remove it.
Oh, he's lovely, Julie! The gemstone chips were a great idea. Great save, too, but he looked almost real with the dark background: all mottled like many octopi are. I love his green eyes...mine are green/gold/brown hazel. You have green eyes? How cool is that!? Most rare eye color in the world! 😊 Heck, yes, we always knew which of our dogs were barking. 😊👍
I actually liked how it looked with the dark background, it gave the octopus a mottled look, which looked natural to me. But, the clear looks good also. Next time try taking it out of the mold while it’s still soft and twist the tentacles, I think that would look pretty cool.😊
I love him! I was going to suggest sanding, you could paint a layer of UV resin on the back so it makes it really clear on his head but I just love him, especially his lovely eyes 🥰
This is adorable and turned out beautifully. I wouldn't stake my life on it, but I'm pretty sure your stones are Fluorite, which is one of my favorite gemstones. Fluorite can be found in almost every color but is dominantely purple and the multi color stones you have are often called Rainbow Fluorite.
So much better without the dark background. So glad you were able to save him. He still ended up with a bit between his eyes but just looks like his mouth. He is so cute! 💕🤗💕
I like the way the back look frosted after you sanded...and i think you probably have fluorite if you have teal instead of just shades of purple...no mater though they are both beautiful stones
I love it. I even liked the purple on the back. Probably if you made it able to hang in a window, the light might have shown through. But glad you were able to remove the background
He is gorgeous, what about trying him with silver sparkling glitter with the dark background. I think it would work. I did like his background but I think you are right with the stones it was too dark.x
Aww.. I’m glad you saved him. Great job! I put an amethyst in a deep heart mold, along with flowers, shells and other colorful stones (inspiration from Tea and art). The amethyst almost completely disappeared in just the clear resin. Those exact stones are saved in my cart. They’re really pretty. I have a fun project in mind for them but, I need to finish all the other projects I have lined up first!😂 Thanks for showing how they look in resin, now I know I need to figure out a different background.❤️
I wonder if those stones are purple fluorite rather than amethyst. The blue and green in with the purple leads me to think more fluorite than amethyst. The little fella turned out great in the end. 👏🏻🌺🌴
Maybe dropping white alcohol ink down after pouring resin in and then the darker layer.. some white might help the stones show up?? I still love how the finished one ended up!
Great save Julie. Please don’t feel bad about it not going as initially planned. We learn with you! It’s part of the process and You nailed it. Glad you shared it too. Great tip of using the heat gun To take back the dark layer. it’s so beautiful. Learned lots. 👍😀💕
Julie, I’ve used your idea of “eyes” in this octopus mold. I have found that using a small bit of UV resin will hold them in place and blends in nicely with my regular resin. Love your resin work, you are an inspiration.
WOW he looks stunning, and ready to date his girlfriend,,!!! Much better with the clear backround,,, I'm thinking of doing one with glass crystals in mixed colors , I done a glow in the dark one with differant colors in the legs and head and he turned out cool ,great job Julie.
That octopus is amazing! There are so many things you could do with it. The dark background was kind of too dark. I think a light shade of purple would have worked. Maybe a lilac or lavender color? The mostly clear background looked pretty great. Live and learn, though, right? You never know until you try.
I was worried when you poured the purple resin that the colors would be too similar. I think a contrasting or a neutral color would have worked better for a background, though I like the clear resin too.
You might have gotten a more better view if you done a white background instead of dark it might help to allow the gems to appear more darker on the opaque white just a thought lol
3 questions to ask...When referring to the alcohol. what kind of alcohol do you spray and when to spray it? My last question is; would it be better to mix the amethyst chips with the resin before the pour? Thank you so much... LOVE, LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!
