David, not that I don’t enjoy all of your brilliantly edited and wonderfully narrated vlogs. But there is something about these real-time videos that just transcend me into feeling as if I am truly there. As if I am experiencing life and nature at less than 10miles per hour. I want to thank you for this absolutely smashing channel and another brilliant video. From a long time subscriber and avid fan!!!

TWO Thumbs way up for this. I have been waiting for someone to do exactly this. It gives the view a sense of the real experience, not an edited rendition. Thank you for doing this, If you ever do the Liverpool canal (I think) that was so picturesque in another NB video episode, I'd love a similar long video on that as well. Again, kudos.

Fantastic video. Really understand why some may not enjoy these but many like myself love them. I used this as part of my daily mindfulness practice and it invokes smells sights and sounds I’m not able to experience not owning a boat. So relaxing and so enjoyable. Let’s have more I say. I would also add that there is very good research in regards the health benefits of these types of slow videos. They are especially beneficial for those who are housebound or have mobility issues etc. I really do appreciate these vids and the time spent on them. They do have real benefit for many people and they are certainly not a waste of your time.

Haven't watched the whole 3 hours, but I did enjoy cruising the cut vicariously for an hour. I'm from the USA so the chance of me ever being on a narrow boat cruising the canal is quite slim. I will definitely watch the remaining two hours in the future. It's fun to see the scenery of the English countryside. Thanks for the video.

There is something special about the sound of a nb engine chugging away. The birds were in full song even when towards the end you could see it was late afternoon. Trains, traffic, people but oh so relaxing. When I was a kid, I’m a Brummie, I spent a lot of time canal side and people waved, didn’t notice much of that going on. Thank you for this video, have saved to watch again and probably again.

i bet when you started these vlogs, you would have had no idea how much therapeutic value they would have to those people who are house bound for various medical and mental reasons. photography is amazing, and i appreciate the lack of accompanying music. as you have said elsewhere, people can always put on their own music. i’ve been sick with the flu, sleeping in a chair, dosed up on medicines and waking up for 15 minutes in the hour to different spots on your journey to amazingly tranquil and beautiful scenery.

What I like about these non vlogs is it gives one the taste of the pace of Cruising The Cut in a narrowboat. Too some it may be boring but I like watching the beauty pass on by. So I think these type videos are valuable as long as they are labeled to those who don't know the narrowboat life. People who travel on their own narrowboat may find it boring only because they have a similar experience travel in person. On the other hand the country side is beautiful. 👍👍😎

Lovely video David, thankyou. There are so many videos that give short glimpses of narrowboat journeys, but here you see the full trip, and I found it very helpful. I'm thinking of moving onto a boat and cc ing in about 3 years, and I was starting to get the impression that the canal network was getting overpopulated with boats and turning into a sort of floating housing estate, so its very encouraging to see that there are still long stretches of canal with no boats or people- just peace and quiet.
@CruisingTheCut
@CruisingTheCut 5 лет назад
Nah, it's only crowded in London and along the K&A around Bath & Bristol, I think
@simonwhite8092
@simonwhite8092 5 лет назад
@@CruisingTheCut If you think about it, there are stretches of moorings, particularly but not exclusively in more populated areas, and around boatyards and marinas This is where most boats sit for most of the year, including many live-aboards. In-between these moorings there are miles of canal, with the associated locks, tunnels and casual moorings - 48h maximums for example. . How crowded it feels is a function of the number of boats on the move. I love next to a canal, and as a family we often sot at the end of the garden watching the boats go by and pottering about in our dinghy. In fact we play a game called canal-boat cricket, which is similar to pub cricket, but with additional rules for trains (we're also near the west coast main line) and dog-walkers and their animal chums. Full rules are available if interested, however runs are scored based on the number of legs. The more boats, the more chance of scoring runs. Hence, I've therefore thought about this a lot. My thought process as to how busy a canal is goes thus: 1) Every so often there is a lock, or series of locks. 2) Each lock can pass one or two boats, depending on whether it is a narrow or broad lock. 3) Assume for the sake of argument that it takes 10 minutes to navigate a lock. (It may be more or less than this, but then I am not a regular lock-passer-througher). 4) In between the locks, therefore, a boat will pass every 20 minutes in either direction. (Remember that another boat has to navigate the lock the other way, too). 5) Therefore while sitting by the canal, you'd see a boat passing one way or the other, about every 20 minutes in each direction, and therefore every 10 minutes on average. That's six boats an hour. (It is why we decided to include dog walkers and cyclists to get the runs up!) And that is during peak times such as summer holidays and during peak times of day - e.g 10.00am to 4.00pm. Outwith these times frequency of boats is much less, and quite frankly it's like watching Boycott trying to make a century. Torrid. If actually on the water, then you will hardly see anyone travelling in your direction, as you're all moving at roughly 4 mph, ten minutes apart. A long comment. i hope you enjoy it. If you want the full rules to canal-boat cricket, then let me know, and if you've passed through Amington in Tamworth on a narrowboat in recent years, and a grey-haired lady has exclaimed "He's bald with a beard" in a strident voice, then I apologise. She was only trying to score a six, and has a very poor volume filter after a couple of pink gins.

Just love your Vlogs, so interesting. Unfortunately we don't have canals or narrow boats in New Zealand as if we did I would be into them. I have messed about in boats for most of my life but I have a real passion for the canal boats. As I can't travel overseas these days the opportunity to travel to the UK to hire a boat and enjoy the canals has now past. Friends have done so and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Watching your videos gives me the feeling of being there so I thank you very much and wish you many happy years on the canals.

Brilliant! I grew up around here many years ago, but moved away at the start of the 80s. Always wanted a narrowboat, but life had different ideas in store. I have finally retired and got my boat - guess where my favourite stretch is? Keep up the good work: I learn a lot from your vlogs, and videos like this are both relaxing and useful to reconnoiter a new stretch prior to travelling it. We don't need a commentary, and music would be intrusive. If there are people out there who can't live without a soundtrack, well, as some other posters have said, you can add it yourself. As for those who think it is too slow, you clearly wouldn't be suited to the relaxed pace of the canal life.

It’s funny. When I saw your first vlog I was amazed you had shown a calendar showing Brixham. I lived there for a couple of years during my high school years early 70s as my father was in the Coastguard service and st that time teaching new recruits as a coastguard school was newly opened there. Then after another promotion we all moved to the Mumbles. He was District Controller. Now called a Commander as the rank of a Naval Officer. He had served 12 years in the navy prior to the Coastguard. I remember you mentioning you parents were from Mumbles. Sadly my father passed away 16 months ago and he is up there with my mother now. I may sell the house and move to the canals. I shall take a holiday on the canals first as I’ve never experienced that yet. I admire all your vlogs David. Take care and chill.

I have done two commercial river cruises...and what I totally enjoyed was sitting in the lounge with a beverage and snack...visiting with whoever I was traveling with, knitting, or reading a book and watching the beautiful villages go by. I have no clue what speed those boats glided so delightfuly at. I have cruised Nuremburg to Vienna; and Paris to Normandy and back. Fabulous! But, I did not have to go out and help get us through any locks, or empty cassettes!!!! LOL. I am very intrigued with the idea of hiring a small boat and checking out some of those canals though....not so sure I want us to drive the boat, or do those two major chores. Hmmmmmmm
