The referees today talk way to much. " Stay in the center" " Wrestle the full 30 seconds" " Keep working" " Improve gentlemen" ect. They are there to award points, watch for illegal moves or potentially hazardous situation. These D1 wrestlers are (for the most part) the cream of the top, not 7 year olds at a weekend tournament. So close the mouth and let them wrestle.

I think the increased level of vigilance from the refs is a reaction to so many past tight calls that caused retaliation from the coaches, thus the officials want to show that they're paying attention to every minute detail of the match. I agree though, it comes off as obnoxious and patronizing.

They just put their noses in places they don't belong this year. A ref has no business saying "work out of it or use it" as he did this match. They'll use it when they're good and ready to

Man I was just texting my friend about it during the big 10. What rule does it say you have to stay in the center of the mat anyway....ridiculous!

For real, like it's not the refs job to tell the wrestlers exactly what to do. Most big move happen when guys get close to the edge... It creates more interpretation situations. Continuing to tell them to stay center does not give the wrestlers an opportunity to score very much. There is a reason that the wrestling match is how big it is. It's not sumo wrestling mat. Again these are some of the best wrestlers in the country... Stop treating them like the are 5 and don't know how to wrestle. Let the improve and don't tell them when they need to improve every 5 seconds. I understand sometimes it's necessary but it feels like this ref said that about 25 times.

Jesus, i know and many matches of Pantaleo muscling his competition but at 5:47 he just dominates in that takedown with pure strength when finishing it
