Today on the homestead here at Shawnee Hills Workshop, I cut apart and fix the Log Arch after bending it while hauling the Oak Logs last week.

If you are watching this leave me a comment letting me know what you think about the repair. Is it stronger or weaker than before? Is it strong enough?

Nice repair making something work. It's definitely weaker than the original, but strong enough for good size logs I think. I wouldn't push it too far until you try it on some reasonable size ones. Stay safe!

I like what you've done here. Thought about doing a small log arch when I was using the atv to drag logs around. Since we got the tractor it's become less of an issue. Don't have a dump type trailer like that, but now you've got my wheels turning for what we can do with the trailer we do have 🤔 Thanks for sharing! -Josh

I highly recommend it, I have been getting 6-10,000lb logs that I couldn't begin to lift with my tractor. It has been great!

Good idea about the First Aid kit. Currently my everyday carry consists of something totally different! 😁

Wes, you should think about doing videos of your work in your wood shop this winter. Your videos are great and spring is a long time to wait. It's just a thought from a fan.

That’s the plan, the cold weather usually force me into the woodshop.

Soak in all that wonderful weather :) ouch at the bike accident, i remember that way too often as a kid :P great idea with the med kit a good sandblasting and some por-15 might be in order for the ford over the winter

I’m afraid if I sand blast all that might be left is the seats and tires, lol. If you stand quietly beside it, you can hear it rust, lol

Hi Wes. Wow, sounds like you daughter took a bad fall. Hopefully she mends soon. Give her some Ice Cream and tell her it is from BT. I would love to see the look on her face...Who? ..lol I totally agree with about have first aid with you at all times. I have built a field trauma kit that fits into two Ridgid tool carriers. I have extensive training so I can use all of my supplies. Log Arch 2.0 idea: My suggestion is to use HD tubular and overbuild it. Think twice the size of those 40" logs and you should never have a problem again. Stay safe...

Everyone in my family knows who Bubba Tim is, we always ready your comments. My daughter said she agrees with the ice cream.

It looks like the repair will be strong enough to get you through to Arch 2.0. Glad your daughter is ok but sounds like a scary crash.

She broke 2 rules that I don’t think she will break again. No helmet and she was wearing flip flops. Her forehead and foot paid dearly, but she is healing nicely

Looks like a good repair and will work just fine until you can build arch 2.0. Maybe on arch 2.0 run angle down the outside corners on the rear of the trailer side to add more strength and rigidity, taking the flex out of the square tube. And yes I have a first aid in all my vehicles also. Having a good kit and the ability to provide aid negates the price.

I'm thinking about building arch 2.0 around the outside of the trailer so it won't be in the way while unloading the logs. I've had logs get caught a few times now while unloading.

If you made the log arch out of pipe would it be stronger?
@shaweehillsworkshop4226
@shaweehillsworkshop4226 3 года назад
I guess it depends on wall thickness and diameter

@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 if you used 2” sch 80 pipe I guarantee you it would not bend. It would be heavier though.

Hello, 2 things, 1-what brand of your electric power washer, and 2- a link to your emergency kit. Thank You Sir!

@shaweehillsworkshop4226 3 года назад
The power washer is a greenworks 1700 I bought at Lowes for my wife because she didn't like using my big gasoline Honda, but since we got it I find myself using it 95% of the time, lol. It is so handy, quiet and easy. Here is a link to the the kit I use, I have the basic kit and then added a 3' SAM splint and Wound Seal mymedic.com/collections/first-aid-kits/products/myfak-firstaidkit
