WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know.

I enjoy the longer videos. I watch them in 30 mins increments. So you get more views per viewing. I'm a Thunking Thinkerer doing major thinkering.

I knap with nails a lot, removing metal marks can be done by rubbing with sand.
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 10 месяцев назад
What do you use to hold the sand while rubbing?
@mikemason4758
@mikemason4758 10 месяцев назад
I know it’s not in me, but if I were to experiment on it, I would try wet sand with that annoying cloth that sticks to your fingers from the detail section in automotive. Maybe.

You may want to look into a noise canceling mic, it will get rid of noises like AC.

They d'int have AC back in the day. So if you use AC it won't be like they used to do it. 😁

In all seriousness please wait for the heat to break before you try the portable fire pit heat treat. It makes me glad that your camers is heat sensitive because ADHD will see the water bottle and think yep I have my water and forget to drink it. Especially with wet bulb over 100°.

@6:00 use bare hand to collect sharper than surgical steel razor blades for storage in a ziplock plastics bag which will be sealed with a gloves hand. What a breed we are. Tougher than wood pecker lips I say.

Idea for not heating up the camera; put a styrofoam cooler on it's side, cut a hole in the lid and pop a sunglasses lense in the hole. Place camera inside with some ice packs. Keep it back far enough that styrofoam doesn't melt.

How many hours do you usually put in knapping a week? Just out of curiosity.
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 10 месяцев назад
It varies greatly. No less than 8 hours per week and sometimes up to 40 hours. Average... probably 15-20.

@@KnapperJackCrafty I look forward to a day I can do that! Knapping is about one of the best stress relievers for me because it sucks up all of my focus in the moment.

@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 3 месяца назад
@prometheus4916 I use 2 metal rods. One rod, the one I think I used for most of this video, is a 3/8" diameter weldable steel rod 12" long. The other type of rod is 5/8" diameter aluminum.
@prometheus4916
@prometheus4916 3 месяца назад
Ty Jack that weldable rod works very well sorry for bothering you, brother. Just trying to get my stuff right before I start. I’m new at it. Thank you.
