Been 52 year since I was in 15th para. Great experience. Taught me to never put limits on my body or mind. I thank my good longevity genes, I'm still pushing the limits. I thank my Mother and Father for giving them.

A fine battalion Jim. I served in A coy in the 80's. Brigadier Alastair Pearson formed it with a group of officers in the "Rogano" restaurant in Glasgow! There should be a blue plaque there to record it. Destroying it was part of the so called "peace dividend" at the end of the cold war. Brigadier Alistair maintained a keen interest in his Bn right to the end. I've some cine film showing ballooning and various other training. I need to get it digitised and posted soon.

The band was excellent and worked hard at this event and had already done so by the time they played Bond of Friendship, a difficult march to play at parade. Thanks for posting and for walking alongside the musicians. It enabled me to hear numerous parts. The troops and veterans were a treat. My only two regrets: 1) The gentlemen tacking care of the pony mascot was clearly not a musician as he was out of step virtually the entire way and 2) Why on earth were there not more spectators??

For 1 - the guy was from newcastle as I spoke to him quite a bit but surely he is a serving soldier so should know how to keep in step! For 2 - The Event was not publicised! I actively search for parades using the council website in Glasgow and Edinburgh but yeah diddly squit anywhere else (bar the paras fb page)

Ex 10 Para 1976-86 did Brize in 76 with 4 & 15 Para boys -1977 or 78 did Junior Brecon & was put in with the "Demo squad" a load of Jocks sitting around drinking beer when I chucked my bergan on a spare pit they threw cans at me I shouted Come on then !! Didden ye recognisse uz - Barnsie ? you guessed it it was the lads from Para course What a laugh I had with those blokes 3 days later I phoned my girlfriend (I hadnt seen her for weeks as I kept doing one course after another) She didnt know who I was cos I spoke with a Glasgow accent !!! My Uncle Bill Morton was PSI with 15 Para TA in the early 60's & when he went back to his Battalion he was given Bagpipes as a leaving present. Dear 10 Para long gone now

I was H.Q coy 44th bge. Then it was 4th 10th and 15th battalions. In 1977 it was disbanded. All the sigs etc were turned crap hat. But at least we had 3 ta battalions. Now it's down to 4 para only. Still I'm just a miserable old git.

Here are all the starts of the marches in the video when the Regiment is on parade, I do not know them all, I just listed timestamps for your listening pleasure. If someone from the internet would like to help me with the song selection that would be really helpful. 0:27 1:23 3:45 (Lovely Euphonium part!) 8:30 12:04 (Pass in Review)

Unless the Band members have passed P coy and jumped they shouldn't wear the maroon beret IMO! and I'm an ex bootneck. Nothing wrong with being a great marching musician but leave the headwear to the guys that have earned it! I'm still spitting have backed a para..LOL

Surely the 70th Anniversary parade is about the Parachute Regiment, not just the blinking band. A bit more time given to the blokes trying to keep in step would have been appreciated.

A solid group of musicians. Twenty four strong and everyone playing all the way. The bass drummer is some kind of muscle machine to play that never missing a beat. So enjoyable especially "Bond of Friendship," and the march at 12:04. could someone share that information with me

That march that begins at 12:04, if not mistaken, is their quick march "Ride of the Valkyries".

Do the parachute regiment band have to complete p company to wear the red beret anyone please?
@LS-jv9hp
@LS-jv9hp 2 года назад
No, they're a ceremonial unit (Along with medical support in a 2nd role) and as such they only need to pass band selection, its the same with the Royal Marine Band as well. Only their intilted to wear the maroon beret unlike their royal marine band counterparts. Plus if with that many women in it i'd be extremely surprised if they all passed P-company considering only one has ever passed it.

15 Jocks got the chop in 1992. 10 got chopped in 1999. I had the sad priviledge of assisting in the training/selection of 15 PARA's last soldiers at Depot PARA. These guys passed P Coy only to return to Bn to be told that they had the choice of discharge or going craphat. I doubt if any of them even got their wings course.

I see women in the band. Are they real paratroopers?
@Fergus110
@Fergus110 4 года назад
As a general rule, no one in the band is a soldier in the paras, or have done P coy - the berets are just part of the uniform, though they do all have a secondary role as medical orderlies, hence why sometimes they deploy on operations. However, in this video, you can see that the trombonist on the far left in the front rank of the band has parachute wings on his shoulder, like a regular soldier would in the Paras, so I would assume he is a real one, or was, but has a musical role as well.
@militaryevents107
@militaryevents107 2 года назад
@@Fergus110 @too young to be old , most of the band are just musicians, but some have volunteered to do deployments, and some are Ed serving soldiers who have joined the band instead of retiring.
