Follows I-90 Westbound in a series of clips from Livingston to Butte Montana, crossing the Continental Divide along the way. Music and equipment FAQ's are in the closing credits.
Thanks FreewayJim! Had a son go to school at Montana State in Bozeman so drove between Livingston and Bozeman multiple times a year! Great memories and great video!
The way the Rockies stands across the horizon unbroken is very imposing and impressive. It truly demonstrates the sheer majesty of the range! Thanks Jim for your excellence!
So thankful for this channel! These videos were exactly what I was looking for, just pure driving showing the beauty of this wonderful country. No vlogging or anything unnecessary. You rock Jim!
Love this part of I-90. We drove this road every year between 1958-1973, driving between the Pacific NW and visiting family in the Midwest. Before I-90 was US 10 and it was a slow go over Pipestone Pass (Continental Divide). Love the view dropping into Butte! Great video, great tunes!
Montana still remains my favorite state that I've been too. The real beauty of the state is off the Interstate. Beartooth Highway and Going-to-the-Sun Road come to mind.
Sad to hear the passing of Dolores O’Riordan today. Such a beautiful voice, one of my favorite singers of the ‘90s. Had to watch this today to hear her do a wonderful Fleetwood Mac cover.
Lovely video on beautiful day. I have to make this exact drive tomorrow Jan 15, 2021 except it's Winter storm Malcolm moving east on this westbound road in white out conditions last night. When the highway opens up I wont be as nervous about it. This mountain road isnt what I imagined at all. Thanks for it, years later of course.
The quality of the video is so excellent.Man it is like riding in the front seat with you!And for anyone watching this, check out his whole collection .Some are worth seeing again😊
These songs go even better with I 81 in Virginia, I listened to them on that road and they were perfect. Without these songs, I would have not had the right music for I 81 in VA. Thank you for playing these tracks!
I know I'm late to comment but this is one of my favorite Freeway Jim videos. In the Top 10 for me. The soundtrack is great, the scenery is even better.
Montana is my 2nd Favorite State after Wyoming.....Both Wide open spaces, gorgeous Natural Scenery and both can call themselves "God's Country".......Bob Fox, Laguna Beach, Ca. USA
Very nice ride through Montana, and a good soundtrack too! Montana turly is big sky country, plus the mountains are always awesome! I always loved mountain highways for the turns, the views, etc! Very nice ride!
I think the reason for this is by the time I-90 heads into Wyoming eastbound, traffic can already have split off onto I-94 back in Billings. But Montana is where I-94 ends on I-90. This I think merges westbound long distance traffic for both I-90 and I-94 onto I-90, causing more traffic.
I have traveled I5 from Seattle all the way to the other end of California when I was a kid and I have driven from one end to the other in Montana about 6 times. Great drives...I want to do old Route 66 (at least what’s left of it) and Highway 1 up the Pacific coast.
Wow, that was excellent, amazing, breathtaking, incredible and fantastic. Montana is the best on video. The music fit everything perfectly. Thanx for posting this.
Drove from Billings to West Yellowstone a few weeks ago-really cool to see you drive down the same road we went on before. US-14 from Yellowstone to Sheridan, WY is a really nice drive too.
Well-weathered leather Hot metal and oil The scented country air Sunlight on chrome The blur of the landscape Every nerve aware........ Rush is the greatest road trip music of em all.
Man...that was a superb presentation, which we your fans have come to know and love. I knew Montana was large but not #4 large. I always learn something new from your channel. Ever thought of driving around Mississippi? It's a beautiful state.
Thank you! I've driven through Miss on I-10 and I-20, not much worth filming, I tried to get I-110 in Biloxi but got rained out in 2015. I'm sure there are some nice back roads but it's just not high on my list of places to explore.
14 minutes passed by so quickly. I was ready for more when you reached Butte, not realizing it was already the end :) I had always wondered, "Why do bugs seem love to splat themselves to your windshield? I have never had such problem." But, after doing my own (and first) *SUMMER* road trip last month, well... I finally got my answer...
TheSolarcatcher I know! I had always traveled in winter and never had any bug problem. Finally got my own share of bug splatters on my last summer trip lol.
Thanks, glad you liked the ride. The bugs never been an issue for me in California or the desert areas, or in Seattle and Portland for that matter, but inland in the mountains it's a big problem, it's really bad in New England as well.
It's a great continent and the wide sky is amazing. But no place in your mountains is as beautiful as the beauty of Norway. If you have ever seen it.... you know what I mean. Nothing in the world that I have seen compares to it. I have not been to the Himalayas. I hear thay are grand. Too grand to visually embrace in most places.
If there's a song tailored for a band that didn't play it in the first place, it must be Go Your Own Way for The Cranberries! Really impressed. Also, the cover picture was amazing, you should think about printing them or something -if you don't do it already!
Great Video Jim I liked how you used Fleetwood Mac in the beginning and you were the only car on the road for some part of the video and on 3:53 iI've seen on Wikipedia
Many years ago Montana had a "reasonable but prudent" speed limit. Germans would fly to Montana just to drive on Montana Highways the state then implemented 75 MPH speed limit, in later years it was raised to 80 MPH. Heres another fact Germany is about the size of the state of Montana and Montana is a spanish name for" Mountain" hence what you will see in this video.
honestly the 90 between spokane and your video is one of my favourites non urban highways.. cos I love the mountaims, smetimes there are parts which are a bit more flat but overall it's one of the coolest, even though I've never been there... the 70 in colorado, the 5 from la to near bakersfielf, the in south oregon, the 90 from seattle to ellensburg are some other favourites... just saying.. were insects in the windshield the annoying thing you mentioned? I jist though it would have been that...
Awesomely, spectacular video (FreewayJim), I wish you would have started it with the original performers of (Go your own way "Fleetwood Mac" my favorite group, the hillside and the mountain scenery still placed me in a state of Aw!!!
Thanks, many Fleetwood Mac songs are not safe to use in these videos so I went with the next best thing. Yeah it's a pretty awesome drive through Montana, that was my first and only time.
That might have been just my preference, not considering the legal issues you may have faced if you did use the original artist.. Good choice anyway because it didn't take any of the sensation away from the video..
I watched this again this morning. This was an excellent drive. Worth the second view. When you first started this hobby, did you ever think that you would end up in Montana one day?
Thank you, it was a great drive in person as well....LOL, no, not really, looking back I'm kind of amazed we went as many places as we did in just a few years span.
Dude are you kidding me?!? You've got Cranberries and Rush playing in the same fkn video? You are a boss!! Now if only you can somehow slip in some Dream Theater, Tribal Tech, OSI and ChromaKey in your videos I'l be a fan for life. If you haven't heard any of those bands, knowing your music tastes I feel you will love them.
Keep in mind I'm not playing this during the ride, it's for the sake of the footage and what works in a given area and vibe. Here, my latest video, jump to the 4:00 mark, you'll get disco the rest of the way. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ZoAGPErbRc.html
I'm surprised Jim you didn't film entering into Montana into Billings since it is the largest city in Montana and in 500 miles, next largest city along I-90 West in 500 Miles is Spokane, WA. I hope your other videos assuming you keep following I-90, you film Butte to Missouls then to Idaho, Lookout Pass and then the decent into Mullan, pat Wallace, 4th of July Pass, Coeur D Alene ID, and if you did go further west on I-90 Spokane, WA. Other than that great video, quality is amazing.
I have someone running the camera in the front seat so in fairness to them I pick my spots for filming, nor would I film hundreds of miles at a time (with a few exceptions) even if I were alone. Honestly did not know Billings would be like what it was or we might have filmed it. Did not film Butte to Missoula but we did get before and after Lookout Pass and yes we did some filming in Spokane.
Thanks, not a big fan of theirs but I do like a few songs (earlier stuff) and when I start testing them in videos I usually find something that works better, some of their songs have been considered several times for videos, it just doesn't work out that way, there's more to making these soundtracks than just dropping in songs.
+Freewayjim Montana looks a lot more rural than sw Virginia. SW Virginia is pretty rural but you do at least pass a gas station or a fast food restaurant once in a while. Lol
