Once again we're back with another video looking at retro horror games. This time we're covering horror games on the Sega Genesis and Megadrive. Enjoy!
Great video, you have a very calm voice without the need to yell or be over-animated which is nice, and all of these were cool picks. My absolute favorite Genesis game is Haunting.
I love playing Splatterhouse 2 on October leading towards Halloween. While not on your list, I always thought Jurassic Park had an atmosphere of horror with dino monsters about.
Interesting point about Altered Beast, and yeah you're right, it's a horror game. I'm guessing we never thought of it that way because the color palette is bright, pastel in parts, so it looks more like a Kirby game than Splatterhouse. Also the player is powerful.
I loved Warlock as a kid. It's a very underrated cinematic platformer imo, and there's a rom hack that makes it 6-button so the controls are way better and you can switch magic easier.
Strong content here, I don't know if anyone has pointed this out to you though, so if they have I apologize. When a game has been placed onto a cartridge, that is not a ROM hack. A ROM hack refers to a game ROM that has been altered in the coding of the game to make it different in terms of the actual game itself, not the media on which it is played. For example, the earthbound Halloween hack, that's a ROM hack.
@@DamienTheHedgehogOfficial There's a video here on RU-vid where he takes his kids to the old Sega building before it gets destroyed. His kids are somewhat young for him to be in prison.
Two headed wolves!!!!! I see it!!!! My God man, I played this game all the time when I was young and all these years I thought they were bulls!!!!!! Also, I can't remember the name of the Japanese game you showed with the woman shooting the blue energy blasts but that game had a western version that I owned but you played as the man instead of the woman
I Love Bram Stokers Dracula for Sega CD, also Poltergeist is great. Zombies Ate my Neighbors and it's sequel (Ghoul Patrol) are awesome!! Played those games so much as a young teen
Fuck Chakan, it's a terrifying game, haha. Also great to see someone on YT not follow the trend of dissing the excellent Altered Beast! Yeah I think AB flirts with horror; I mean, you fight a mountain of graves and you see a greek goddess get crucified. The elements are there!
I have all these games on my Sega emulator and I highly enjoyed playing the Scooby Doo game it had the cartoonish feel to it and there's actually two more titles that were made as well.
What a great list of classics! On a very grim note, Ooze might not be a perfect game, but turning into a living slime is probably the most realistic mutation from radioactive exposure.
I bought my AT Games Genesis ( AV output version ) and it has over 40 Genesis games built-in for just under 40 , , ,not bad even works with classic Genesis controllers , , , SplatterHouse-2 is one of the built-in games , , great find for budget Gamer like me , , ,😸👍👍
It keeps impressing me how you cover quality games I haven't heard of. I've been collecting for 11 years and admin on several retro gaming sites, watching video reviews etc. How can this be??
Great list. Quite a few I've never heard of. I wish you would have included timestamps and leveled the audio better though. Still, awesome undertaking. Must have been a lot of work.
On the list the only games I consider horror are the Splatterhouse games. They are the only games with horror elements at every corner; the music, atmosphere, creatures, game play, tension... everything. Other games MUST have some loos screws here and there that ruins the horror feel that makes them more of thrillers, not horror. Nothing like that in Splatterhouse unless one comes up with some to loosen the stress back when we were kids with big imagination.
Well done! Super interesting video. If I can make a suggestion? Re-record audio when you stumble through words. I think it can make the difference between a sub or not
Running late on comment however Halloween is about a week from now👍Very cool also considering happen to have every game made for Genesis/MegaDrive on emulator 🎮 Can refer to ones hadnt played yet right from here 🎃👻
Ghouls n ghosts is ten times harder then modern dark souls i can't even make it past the first level I've even played ghouls n ghosts on arcade machine when it first came out
Action 52... Yeah it's pretty terrifying alright. I'm pretty sure playing that is a punishment in Hell. Good list, I have played quite a few of these. Some of the film based games like Alien 3 were a pleasant surprise, being far better than the source material.
What I liked about AlienStorm was that it came with a John Carpenter’s The Thing vibe in a time when everybody else was milking it hard with xenomorph knockoffs
Alien Storm just kicks ass, people always talk like it's not a good game....give me a break. I spent so many quarters on the arcade machine and I played the hell out of the Genesis version as a teen
The first Splatterhouse was released in arcades, then ported to the TurboGrafx as you mentioned, plus there's Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti for the Famicom, which dropped in 1989, followed by Splatterhouse 2 and 3 in 1992 and 1993 respectively for Sega Genesis.
