If you want to hear a musical orchestral depiction of Ares/Mars listen to the great English composer Gustav Holst "The Planets' -Mars the bringer of war. This music was written just before the outbreak of World War One and seemed to have been a prophecy of that terrible event. All music related to war and conflict in subsequent movies etc would have been influenced by this stirring music.
The way I see it, she was just another unsatisfied wife who didn’t feel complete because her husband was working too much and decided to sleep with his brother to feel better
i know hephaestus is the one who safe her (cause he hear his bitch of mother whiling for to be released). in one version, Ares is begging Zeus to release her. and the one who join the rebellion is Apollo, Athena, and Poseidon. right?
Besides the fact that aries loves war for his own enjoyment, his back story regarding aphrodite is quite fascinating. He's not that bad, being shunned by own father how would you feel?
To be fair, it's not like Hephaestus was ever supposed to end up with Aphrodite. Seeing as Ares and Aphrodite birthed Deities such as Eros, Harmonia, Terror, and Fear. @@PapaLobo94
@@PapaLobo94ares is the second best behaved of all the gods. Zeus is Zeus, hara is insane, and all the other gods except for hades and ares have done absolute terrible things. Hades does his job and ares is just violent
another facts (including my opinion) of Ares : 1. as Mars, Ares is more strategic, discipline, mature, and honorable. while as Ares, he's a complete warmonger, immature, and have zero care for his own subject. 2. he's patron of Sparta along with his blood sister, Enyo , minor goddess of war and bloodshed. 3. Eris is his handmaiden (as far as i know). 4. and i think only one quote to describe Ares : "War does not determine who is right. only who is left" - Bertrand Russel.
+razor edge Fun Fact: Mars was originally an agricultural deity - a guardian who served to protect the crops and livestock. He was actually one of the most respected and revered deities of the ancient Roman pantheon, second only to Jupiter in importance.
+razor edge In terms of importance, Juno and Minerva would be next, as they were also apart of the Capitoline Triad alongside Jupiter. They even shared a temple with him on the Capitoline Hill - The Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus.
my head cannon was that Ares had enough of the greeks treating him like dirt, so he had his two sons (romulus and remus) in secret to start a new country that would give him the respect he deserves. basically he went "fine, ill start my own greece, with blackjack and hookers"
It's cause of how different cultures viewed war. Most of what was "Ancient Greece" hated bloody wars with the non sensical deaths, preferring more tactical ways of achieving victory. Ancient Rome, whilst being militaristic, saw tactics as also important, so that is why Mars is a fusion of Ares and Athena.
Why is everyone obsessed and begging for a Video of Athena, Seriously people today don't even realise that the Athenians made ARES lose and had him in humiliating positions just because he was worshipped in Sparta and thus their patron goddess had to look superior to Sparta's Patron God. Like seriously the Athenians were the biggest wankers in ancient Greece, most depictions of Ares come down to us from them as such they had pure hatred for him. Obviously the Spartans were not known for churning books so Ares who represented their ideal warrior's depiction was lost and only the Athenian versions exist .Sophocles says "MAY YOU (ZEUS) CONTINUE TO DESTROY ARES A GOD DISHONOURED AMONG GODS" This just shows how much the Athenians hated Ares SO BLAME OUR MODERN DEPICTION OF ARES ON CHARACTER ASSASSINATION AND THE WANKING OF ATHENA
@@bevdavis4148 Sparta was ares domain. Athens was Athena's. People worshiped ares. Don't make excuses of why the Athens made him out to be a coward. Sparta didn't have as many scribes back then yet you believe anything thrown your way.
This was very well done in terms of facts being hellenistic with Ares as my patron God. I seldom often hear good or even facts for that matter when it comes to Ares. Good Job. I would enjoy hearing about hestia and Dionysos if you would in the near future.
This was a great video, having a separate video for the facts about a specific god is really informative and well explained. Facts videos about all the Greek Gods and Goddess would be amazing but is your looking for which ones to do next a facts video about Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis and Apollo would be the ones I would most like to see. Great work!
Difference of faiths. Ares in Roman culture, Thrace, Crete and Sparta was the god of rage, fierceness and strength that a soldier needs in a war and the protector deity, and not voilence and bloodlust like the Christian horseman 'War'. Even going to an extent of showing Ares as far superior to Athena, Hercules, Apollo and Posiedon.
You would think Greek and Roman gods are the same but they are not because in his Roman form he takes the responsibility of being Athena's side of war and was more well less violent
Another fact is that he represents the physical peak for soldiers in order to be fit for battle. In a way he's a symbol of fitness such as Hermes who was also god of athletes.
Stellar and Cosmic Shifting! Thank You for presenting this Vid about the great and terrible bully of Olympus. In answer to your question that you posed at the video's end, how about exploring the domains of the fearsome pantheon of gods of the Aztec and Maya. Best, TC
+Trey Gonzalez Nymphs are spirits of nature. They were considered minor goddesses ranked below the Olympians, but they were still allowed to attend the assemblies of the gods on Mount Olympus. First are the dryads, nymphs of the forest who reside in trees. They are further divided into sub-categories: - Oreads (mountain pine nymphs) Meliae (ash-trees), Hamadryads (oak trees), and Meliades (fruit-trees). - Naiads: Nymphs who inhabit bodies of freshwater, such as springs, fountains, lakes, rivers, and streams. - Nereids: Sea nymphs, they were the daughters of Nereus (the Old Man of the Sea) and Doris. There were 50 of them, and they often accompanied the sea god Poseidon and served in his court.
In the _Iliad,_ upon being struck by the hero Diomedes' spear (by the aid of Athena), Ares roared, the sound he made as if nine or ten thousand men bellowing in the heat of battle.
He seems to symbolize defeat from all the stories I've heard. Which is lame hes a cool concept. The greeks favor strong stature and honor but like Zeus allow corruption within as long as you hide it and can play it well. Ares is an honest God, he is the God of primal rage and desire for strife, but he fails so much. I think its the Greek story tellers encouraging people to be more thoughtful. That is why Athena more successful and just wins, "she throws a boulder".
I would like to add that in The Iliad Ares was wounded by one of Athena's favorite warriors, Diomedes, king of Argos, who was like Greek Army's silver medal next to Achilles being the gold medal in that department.
Ares should be able to beer giants and hearoclease after all he is a GOD meaning he can beer any being that isn't a god like Heracles and kratos because they aren't gods
Athena is not the god of war athena is the god of wisdom but at a very young age she was very skilful with weapons and thanks to her smartness she was able to trick ares and win every time
Hercules when he put on the tunic and it was a trap that caused him a great deal of pain.He couldn't bare anymore so he burned himself to death and Zeus made him immortal since he had already burned his human flesh... What did he do after he was brought to Mt. Olympus?
The part where you said that zeus made kratos the new god of war is not correct in greek mythology kratos was no one special he was just a strong man that followed zeus orders he was never appointed as the new god of war maybe you have things mixed up (im a greek by the way)
Isn’t Eris goddess of chaos his other fellow companion who follow him into war? Also imagine if Ares and Eris has a child together, I can’t imagine knowing how that child would turn out being the son or daughter of war and chaos
Ancient Greek mythology tells a story about a man named Mikael Shadows born from two mortal parents during the century 23 B.C. He was one of seven people to be sacrificed for Ares, god of war. But instead became the first demigod after a human birth by an unknown deity. In exchange for this godly gift, there had to be a sacrifice made and that was his entire family. Mikael is the son of Melite (mother) and Codros (father), he is also the brother of Icarus (brother), Patron (brother) and Isadora (sister). It is said that Mikael will roam free on this earth until he seeks his true vengeance on Ares. Mikael Shadows, God of vengeance.
Hidden picture 1:59. A dark haired woman with purple clothes holding white flowers in her lap surrounded by two young angels with light brown hair whispering in her ear. They are in a grassy landscape with darker green trees/bushes.
Sparta did not worship Ares, and his warrior sons were by an affair with his sister Eris who drove his chariot. Diomedes threw the spear because Zeus told the gods they could not participate, Athena wearing the helmet of invincibility drove Diomedes' chariots. He was also the father of the Amazons.
+Antonius Robertus The previous two _"facts"_ were fabricated, yes. However, in the _Iliad,_ Athens tells Diomedes (the king of Argos) that Ares had promised her and Hera that he would fight on the side of the Achaeans.
There is a big misunderstanding regarding god Ares. If you read the Orphic hymn about Ares you will realize that Ares was the God of the warriors who fought for their rights. You should know ancient Greek to understand it.
