Hi! We just released our first comic book on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. Check it out and let us know what you guys think - Medusa: The Cursed Priestess - amzn.to/3i2nHnJ
Basically the idea is that these Gods are US - the constant interaction between Humans and Gods in these religions - Hinduism is the same way - is telling us that Gods are not people living in some magic lands full of magic powers - they are US and we can aspire to be Gods That is the goal of Hinduism - Aham Brahmasmi - I am God! To be the Savior, not the Saved To be Strong, not the Weak Greeks, sadly chose to be Slaves instead - down on their knees, begging and groveling for mercy and hoping for a reward - the easy good life of the weak - protected, sheltered, comforted, fed & clothed, kept away from facing real life - Heaven! We are going the opposite ways - the Greek religion and Hindu religion imploring us to move on up - take the hand of God, whereas religions like Christianity & Islam move us downward - literally down on our knees, helpless damsels, "He is coming any day now"! Hinduism says if such a helpless life is what you want then you will be reborn as a Tree or a Dog - what does a Dog do all day? Nothing! Eats, poops and Sleeps - zero work! Zero responsibilities! Heaven! So please be kind to the stray dog or cat that you see - that is a Christian or Muslim in a former life
years ago when I was in high school, we went on a trip to Greece and ended up going to Delphi. It was so awe inspiring to visit a place where so many ancient historical things have happened, myth and otherwise. It was crazy to look down at the stone platform and see where the oracle would have sat and given gas fume fueled advice. It is by far my favourite historical place I've ever been to.
Poor Medusa got killed because of stupid Athena and pervert Poseidon. If only Athena were able to listen and understand Medusa and didn't let her jealousy took over her. Medusa would still remain as a priestess of her temple.
yeah but like they're immortal and stuf. plus Poseidon slept with medusa, and Athena popes out of Zeus's head after he ate his wife in the form of a fly. its complicated, don't even try to understand these things.
Don't worry within 103 students (mix section) I was the only one who read Greek myths, in 5th grade in English text book there was STORY OF PROSERPINE and I was the only one who knew that they were uncle and nice and I always thought what I should learn from it, how to kidnap crush!.
I feel so bad for Medusa. I heard her story. It was the Gods Poseidon and Athena who did her wrong. I can see why Medusa turned other heroes and warriors to stone. She was defending herself. Medusa has a sad fate. So from hearing on how the gods behave, sometimes their good, but other times the gods are just evil and selfish.
The gods/goddesses were reflections of the humans who worshipped them. They have godly powers but human desires and emotions. They get angry, jealous, petulant. They can also be kind, helpful, and benevolent. Such fascinating history and mythology.
That's why the second commandment was made. Serving anything under the force behind absolutely everything will just create an imbalance due to the fact any 1 god will lead you down a finite path and sometimes it just doesn't work out for you because of the imbalance, and because these singular aspects of nature are but a piece of infinity. So its best to put your faith in the fabric of consciousnesses all people aswell as all gods belong to. You will find more correct pathways to follow. Medusa worshiped Athena who represented just 1 aspect of all of creation so therefore by ignoring other aspects of God she was simply used by the limited scope available to her that she chose to see. The second commandment isn't just about jealousy its more of a warning. like hay if you put your faith in this particular things anything short of complete universal consciousness (yaway) spelled wrong here. You might find yourself in a situation you wouldn't have otherwise since this one god is selfish and only really serves themself and their particular cause. In medusas case it was the jealousy she made Athena feel due to her not being completely conscious of anything but Athena.
I am a huge Greek Mythology buff and The story of Perseus/ Clash of the Titans is the reason, I love how you explained the myth, you kept my attention the whole way and it didn't feel like you left anything out. Thank you very much!!

Clash of the Titans really made my actual undersanding of this myth really hard as they changed so much for no decernable reason. But at the same time each retelling is part of the story. There is no real source truth. The eternal wish to try to undersand our origins so worthwhile.
As with all myths this one has a couple of different versions and I believe in one version of The Myth Perseus actually sneaks up on Medusa while she's asleep
Bizarre as it sounds perseus was both heracles' half brother AND also his great grandfather (what happens when you're father is immortal and never saw a mortal woman he didn't wanna bang)
The part about Perseus and Andromeda kind of reminds me of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He's given an object that makes him invisible, and a magic sword which he uses to defeat a serpent and rescue a damsel in distress whom he ends up marrying.
There's a bit of conflict in this story, If Perseus petrified Atlas how come on one of Hercules's labor he met and tricked Atlas? as you said at the end of the story Hercules was one of Perseus's descendants.
Wait a minute.. How could Heracles come after Perseus if Perseus turned Atlas into a mountain? If Heracles came after then how did he interacted with Atlas to get him the golden apples if Atlas is already a mountain? Something isn't clicking here...
Technically Hercules came before Achilles. Some of these were changed or miss-told by the Romans. The Greeks also didn’t write there stories Chronologically so it’s anyone’s guess really
@@jotarokujo4250 Thats Half right, Gods are just smaller and more simple, Titans are bigger and more mightier, in Greek thesis, Titans are just Titans, their own thing, and gods are just Gods, hence why Typhon isint a titan nor a God despite being birthed by Gaia.
The country we call Ethiopia as well as its neighbor Eritrea are both named after places in modern day Greece. In the Illiad one of Troy's allies is King Memnon of Ethiopia.
I love Greek Mythology!😃 I also love Satyrs, Centaurs, Minotaurs and Medusa too!♥️ Another thing I even also love about Greek mythology, are the Gods and Goddesses who live on Mount Olympus, like Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and Athena.
The Ancient Greeks Told Great Stories about their gods and they might have made great Filmmakers, if that Art form might have been discovered back in those times.
Well,Its not Just fancy stories if you read em in Greek..All names mean something related to the human behavior,to geological events,to interactions with primitive wild people as with advanced civilizations. Also Greek-Hellenic language has a mathematical structure (same as Sanskrit) with names and related properties having the same arithmetic value.Same with the Bible, reading it in English can be just words and stories, but reading it in Hebrew and Greek, words can have a second symbolic meaning hard to translate in one word for other languages..reading with dictionaries it works
ive had this epiphany recently where this idea of ‘everything that has happened will happen’. i know it sounds obvious but think of it like how the grandpa was doing everything in his power to change the future only for it to come true because of what he was doing. you can’t change the future, it is already written.
When I watch the movie "Percy Jackson:Son of Poseidon" I'm settled with the thought of he is a son of Poseidon but now? WOW! What a very confusing story.
Actually it is explained in the book that Sally Jackson named her son Perseus Jackson because the other “Perseus” was the only Greek Hero with a pleasant end. Perseus Jackson is the son of Poseidon but this Perseus was the son of Zeus.
Medusa was never a victim in the original Greek mythology. She was always a Gorgon that had a consensual relationship with Poseidon and Athena never punished her. The version of the story many refer is from Ovid's version who was a Roman poet. Medusa was simply a beast like Hydra nothing dramatic backstory. Danae (Perseus's mother) had a tragic story. She was locked by her own father because of a prophecy, was later banished only to be mistreated by Polydectes the king of the land. If anything he is the main bad guy, because he was the one to force Perseus to slay Medusa. He thought it was impossible so he could forcefully marry his mother. Andromeda also was free because of Perseus. If anything he is the golden boy of Greek heroes and had 3 women in his life that really shaped his story.
the Roman poet Ovid is said to have died in the Roman city of Tomis, which is today in the country of Romania, by the Black Sea. Ovid was apparently banished from Rome because of his political beliefs or something. I know this because I'm from Romania, from that exact city that is today called Constanta.
Perseus turned Atlas into stone. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Heracles’s story is set after Perseus, right? If so, in his story, Heracles met up with Atlas and tricked him into getting the golden apples for him Am I wrong?
I think you are right. To take a guess here, Atlas was petrified and became a mountain, but he didn't t die. Altas was encase in stone, and with his Titan abilities, he later broke out after some time pass.
You are correct that Hercules came after Perseus. It was 4 generations after Perseus following the succession Perseus, Electryon, Alcmena, and Heracles. But I do agree he probably due to his Titian power was able to break free to continue his eternal punishment Zeus gave him.
I'm all for Medusa. ..looking at her now with Admiration n Pity. ...as she didnt choose to be a monster - she wanted to be a priestess.....even after being slaughtered...she helped out lovers with her curse.
Fun fact the Greeks consider Persus to be the ancestor of the Persians. The Persians would use this during their invasion of Greece showing a common ancestor. Later Alexander would use this during his invasion of Persia.
Btw man, your video helped me a LOT while creating a handout about the metamorphosis of Perseus and Andromeda! We have Ovid as the current subject in my latin class and we all had to cover one metamorphosis. I forever embedded your video here as a source, because it was just such a joy to listen to it. Usually you study these myths as PowerPoint slides or dry presentations, but your style of telling a story made me go the extra mile to make my Handout be a little different to the others and be way more readable :) Sorry for the long comment, but I just had to tell you this. TL;DR: Your videos are awesome!
Today I did a passage on the story of Perseus and how he killed Medusa to save his mother from King Seriphos or whatever. So disclaimer, I am a mythology nerd, and any fellow mythology nerd would know that Zeus is usually the father of most people in greek mythology cause he can't keep it in his pants. So while we were reading the passage, my friend was like '"who's his daddy?" So jokingly, I was like "it's probably Zeus, he's everybody's daddy." So I came back from school and decided to go on youtube to see the full story of Perseus 'cause I knew that those school passages were holding back on 'important information." And like one minute in, the narrator was like " Zeus, lord of the Olympus, hearing the girls prayers, fell in love and decided to visit her. The god turned himself into golden rain, and this way managed to get inside through the openings of the tower, where the princess was enclosed. The golden rain fell on Danae's lap, and Zeus impregnated her." then I started flipping out yelling out "who else." The dude's got a problem, I'm beginning to predict who his children are.
