Awesome info as always!! Would you mind doing a video in the future about the wood utensils care (applying the oil to the utensils)and how to seal grouts? Thanks you very much!
I store my drink wares mouth side up. Also, in the dishwasher I load the utensils handles up so that my hands don’t touch the part that will touch our mouths, this information is in Food Safety if anyone wants to check it out.
GG 77x7 create a landing space for paperwork and those other items. Look up the Sunday Basket system for paperwork, install hooks for keys, etc. Make it easy to put things away.
I live on Maui, and store them all upside down, so geckos do not get in them and poop - I do always wipe the rim and the inside of the glass before I use it -I am a diehard upside down!
Hi! I am new to your channel and i enjoy every video i have already seen. I also have a tip for kettles. Instead of vinegar i use citric acid ( we use also in recipes for example in marmelades) with water. I boile and... Clean as new. Maybe you will try it also and if let me know.
hello i work at a nursing home and due to the coronavirus its much more important to keep our electronics clean, could you do a video about cleaning cellphones and computers?
My family has a habit of rinsing our cups, plates, utensils, etc under water before using them! So it doesn't really matter if we put them upright or upside down haha
I thought that same thing until I gave it a try. Since I began baking lots of breads & such after our youngest left for college, I chose an open sink w/left side drain w/that side being larger than the right. The open single sink allows me more space to clean stainless steel bowls & pans. It came w/a grate & veggie rinse basket (also stainless). Applying copious amounts of baking soda cleans a sink like nothing else. Baking soda isn't that expensive, esp if you buy it in the 15lb bags. I'd buy it in a bucket if pricing for shipping wasn't so high.
I prefer it facing down in case there are bugs crawling around that I don't see. I'll never pick up a glass or mug that has a live bug inside. upside down is 100% my favorite
I was trying to figure the best way I could ask you to please make a video on deep cleaning a countertop oven. I have an air fryer convection oven and the inside of it is not stainless steel. It’s that scratchable aluminum material. Now there are these yellow stains that won’t come off with dish soap.. and I can’t scrub too much or it will scratch. Help?
I like to have the things I use every day out on the counter for easy access and easy cleanup! But I don't like decorations on the counters I cook on, I feel they take up valuable workspace!
Me too, i have my coffee maker and toaster, everything else I store .........I think it looks more like a home when you have a couple of appliances on the counters , too clear feels like no one lives there lol
Granted I’m 75, but we always stored grease in a can in the freezer and threw the frozen can away on garbage day-a no-no for compost. (Clear counters works best for me.)
I do the same, I drain all fat into a tall take out plastic soup container, kept in my fridge, then if needed I'll freeze it then throw away. Depending on the type of fat, sometimes it doesn't need to be frozen.
same - plus I created a 'coffee spot' in the kitchen, not on the counter, but on a small table. There's my new coffee machine and a small basket for napkins on one side and the sugar on the other side and some flowers. Very nice.
I'm disabled with a 5lbs weight limit. It's so hard for me to keep my toaster, coffee pot and my canisters in a cabinet. Even though I don't like it I have to deal with it. GREAT video as always CMS. God bless you all ❤ XOXO
I *would* like minimal items on the counter, but my house doesn't have the cupboard space so, I *do* keep some appliances on the counter. However, I'm not a knick knack person, so I don't put decor items on the counter.
I've actually recently tried your idea of putting everything away to see how I felt about my kitchen surfaces being clear & I have to say that my hubby & me both lived it 😀 sk I'm definitely in the 'less on the tops' camp 👍
I like functional decor and appliances we use almost daily, a small one-portion blender, toaster, microwave, Keurig out on the counters, and I try to keep it to that
We hand wash dishes at home. So, right after the wash we sit the dishes upside down while they wait to get put away. When they’re in the cabinet we store them right side up.
I used to love going and checking out "Model Homes" and getting some decorating ideas. The "decorators" always seemed to have so much "clutter" everywhere, but the worst for some reason was usually the kitchen. The kitchens and other space would look so much bigger if they'd get rid of all that stuff... Thanks for all the tips!!
Oh my gosh! I store upright too. Drives my family nuts I give them this exact reason of air circulation and they think I’m overthinking it. Soooo glad I’m not the only one.
This is an ongoing battle in my house. It's the same reason as your family. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm generally the one who does the dishes, albeit my daughter will put away the dishes from the dishwasher if I push, but she sure doesn't like it (as a mom we get to feel the 'I don't care if you don't like it but I cook, clean, wash your clothes, etc...' not to mention she's home after graduating from college while she finds work & can move out on her own), move often the glasses & coffee cups do go rightside up, but the downside is that my husband will stand there & flip them upside down on occasion. FACEPALM! UGH. I know he does this just to get under my skin. He's such a scamp.
I like clear counters with a few essential and often used items on show. Completely empty counters look sterile to me but a cluttered kitchen is a recipe for chaos and waste! Xx
I store upright all the time, but I’ve always make sure that my glassware and mugs are 100% dry before putting into cupboard. Most bugs go after moisture, so I dry them first before put away. As for counter space, don’t have much room and cupboard space is limited too. So I keep rice cooker and crockpot on counter and make sure I use them most days weekly.
I like cleared off counters, even my toaster oven gets put away. The only thing allowed to stay out is the fruit bowl. And also, when it comes to kitchen laundry, I change out my dish cloth at least once a day (sometimes more if I used it wipe off my toddlers face after a meal) and I boil my dish cloths before putting them in the laundry, that way they don't get stinky.
I also change my kitchen towel out at least once a day. I guess it depe ds on how much you use it but i wouldnt. Consider using the same wShcloth for my face everyday so why the handtowel in the kitchen?
Long Live the Clean My Space Yellow Pineapple!!! I like a pretty bare countertop in the bathroom and kitchen. It's easier to keep clean. In fact, you just inspired me to clear off the kitchen counters... some stuff has accumulated there and it needs to get put away!
Upside down...that's how I was trained. I used to have all appliances on the counter...now they all rest on the metal shelves unit in the other room. Totally freed up my kitchen!!!
We keep small appliances we use daily on the counter. I’ve tried putting everything away but my husband freaks out when he can’t find anything. Lol!! 😃
Yay I love kitchen videos! I just uploaded a video inspired by you... trying your 3 wave system. I really liked cleaning my sink at the end instead of after doing my dishes... super helpful!! Also I put my glass cups upside down 🤦🏽♀️
I tried the nothing on counter tops. I do have a coffee station so that makes it easier. I was hesitant about putting away my toaster because I use it every day but found a “convenient place to store it and I love not having it out. I do have a big bowl set that won’t fit elsewhere so it’s still out but it doesn’t hurt the sleek look. So happy I tried this.
Upside Down (glasses) - but I place my glasses/mugs/bowl on a dish towel to dry as I put the rest of my dishes/silverware away. Great Idea for cleaning that crack between the stove and countertop! Yay!
it always works for us! make sure the spout (kitchen or shower) is immersed in the vinegar. need to leave it there overnight. the underside of the soap dish (that attaches to the pole on an adjustable shower head) was disgusting. With clever placement of several rubber bands, it cleaned that too!
I don't find it works completely, but.... i will fill a glass with vinegar and just lay the faucet head INSIDE the glass for about 15 minutes. (no need for the plastic bag if you have a head that you can pull out) Then I'll take an old toothbrush and some dish soap and water and scrub it. Cleans like a charm.
We always keep our glasses upside-down in the cabinet but at the same time, We only have 9 glasses and 5 mugs so they don't spend much time in there anyway.
Thanks for the tip about using a butter knife to get the crud between stove and counter. BTW, upside down for glasses; right-side up for mugs. Don't ask.
I store my cups upright. Because I wash my cups more often then I wipe down my shelves. And I don't want to put my lips on dust rings. Also, if it's a cup from the back of the cupboard, I rinse it out before use anyway
ANY animal products (except for egg shells) added to a compost pile will draw dozens of rats to your yard. We learned the hard way as newbie gardeners decades ago!
I learned to tip cups upside down after living in places prone to mice. The mice seem to like to leave evidence in the cups. I always wonder do cup upright people tend to rinse their cups before use.
If you then store upside down your rims rest on areas that the mice inhabit and leave who knows what on the surface. No good answer? Maybe switch to disposable plastic cups?
If I were you, even though I know how to do something very well I would give myself a break and hire someone to clean your house once a week. At least during this time
I don't like drinking out of glasses that are rim side down because it feels like the clean glass now is dirty from touching the shelf. Rim side up is good!👍
I keep the appliances that I use regularly/daily on the countertop that’s my water filter, aerogarden, coffee maker, KitchenAid, toaster, kettle, instantpot, and a blender! if I have enough space to put them away but still reach them with easy access I would and choose the minimalistic approach 😊
I like my counters as clear as possible. I'm always trying to find hiding spaces for stuff. However, some things that I use every day I may keep - or if the item (toaster oven) is difficult to store, I will keep it on my counter.
Mellissa I love you! Almost 60years old and I did not think I would have loved to listen to one of my "kids" tell me how to do it! Well I'm addicted to you! You are clear concise and you can give your views to this OR nurses, and, she love to take it in! (very rare because OR nurses are some of the most hard headed, been there, done that type of people you would ever meet). I am taking my cleaning tools down to the essential...B.soda, vinegar, dish soap, rubbing alcohol and ?hydrogen peroxide. I no w have that extra support to my cleaning tasks to make me feel all the effort is worth it! Thank You! Also I told my sister about you and she said she hired your company when you first stared out in Toronto so my love for you was meant to be!!!! Thank U, Cheryl :)
Great video and lots of good tips that I can use. I also subscribe to some gardening channels and they discourage putting grease or oil in the compost bin as this might encourage vermin. 🤷🏾♀️
We keep most of our small appliances on the counter. Our toaster gets used every day, toaster oven- too big to put in the cupboard, kitchen aid stand mixer- too big to put away, deep fryer- full of oil- therefore can’t put away, Coffee maker- use every day.
Hand-washer here. I store my glasses right side up. Have been decluttering for awhile now, still a work in progress. Unfortunately my kitchen is tiny with very few cabinets, so my toaster and Keurig must stay on the counter, as well as a jar of my most used cooking utensils by the stove. That’s all, though, except for a pretty tray holding dishwashing essentials by the sink.
I prefer clean counters with minimal decor. Also, I store my glasses both ways. The reason I do is that I rotate my glassware, and I can tell which ones haven't been used by the way they are stored. Loved the tip about cleaning the blender--so simple and something I would have never thought of! Thanks Melissa!!!!
I’m loving your microfiber cloths! Clean up is faster with them. They are so absorbent and rinse out well. Sorry, they get washed weekly with everything else but I have enough.
omg, tried the microwave cleaning tip AS SOON as I saw it, and it works!! Thank you! Have you made a video yet for cleaning your apartment for moving out (and to get your deposit back)!? I'd watch it, 100% Hey from Nunavut
I'm not pregnant (had 5 and I'm DONE lol) but I know how you feel about wanting to throw everything out. My house is pretty clean but my kitchen cabinets are a nightmare!
@@tiffanymichelle3130 Haha! I remember the feeling. Honestly, don't worry about it too much. Do what you can now and even when you think your'e okay, a toddler highlights a whole world of other stresses. For a new mom, I think the most important is having everything easy to get to for you and easy to find for your hubby or whomever is going to help you in those first weeks when your'e enjoying your newborn. Lots of love to you!
Narniaru you’re very sweet! All good advice. I’m not a first time mom, I have a 3 year old, so I totally agree with you about the toddler comment lol! That’s why I have no time, my son gets all my attention! 😆😊
I have one spot for my Keurig, Kettle, and toaster, but I Haven't been able to put my my instant pot away, because of the fact that I barely have enough space in my cabinets for the pots and pans. And it's hard keeping the littles out of the kitchen, so I try to keep the stuff out of reach of them.
I have ADHD and none of these work for me. Here's what actually works: 1. I don't make my bed. It's the most useless task in the world and I hate having to undo it in the evening. 2. Instead, every morning I clean the kitchen. That gives me a sense of accomplishment and I don't have to do it in the evening when I'm full from eating. 3. I make a big list of all the big and tiny things I got done. Much more motivating than a to-do list.
I only have a toaster oven...my cooking utensils...and my canisters with noodles..sugar..salt..flour..Also my knives because I cook every day and they are more functional on my counter. I do tuck away my toaster and blender and everything else.
I like have a very minimal amount of items on my counter. I wish I could find a place to put my stand mixer, but it is to tall for even the pantry. We do find the kitchen being clean to be such a necessity with decreasing the feeling of stress.
Life changing things in my kitchen - Microwave cover, using vinegar to clean everything in the kitchen, keeping my heavy food processor on the counter (I actually use it now), and an erasable monthly planner to jot down to dos (keep me and my husband coordinated).
I store my glasses and cups upside down and I have my small appliances on the countertop but would love to not have as much on the counter. I need to reevaluate what I dont need anymore.
So, how often should you be sealing grout and stone? Does bathroom grout need to be sealed too? What about quartz countertops, do those need to be resealed?
I keep my kitchen counter minimal. I have a container with cooking utensils and a porcelain owl full of cat food. But that’s it. The minimal look makes it feel like a space of cooking possibilities :) Thanks for another great video
Tiny kitchen here so have to use counter tops to store stuff. I even store stuff on the back of my hob! Its so normal to me now but I appreciate storing fruit on the Hob is not normal for most people 😂
