that Lindros card was one of the most coveted cards in the entire hobby in the early 90s. as a kid it seemed unattainable.
@TheSwedishHockeyCardCollector
Thanks for your comment, appreciate it! Exactly what you describe in your comment is what made collecting hockey cards so exciting when you were a child. I could buy 2-3 packs of hockey cards a week with my weekly allowance. The chance to pull one of the good players/cards is not that great, but the opportunity was there and it still is even now that we are adults and buy boxes instead 😃👍

Great video. Nothing like the 90's in the NHL...greatest era of hockey in my opinion. A couple of players I would add to this list is Alexi Kovalev and John LeClair...not HOF players...but really good nonetheless.
@TheSwedishHockeyCardCollector
Thank you! 😃👍 I agree with you about LeClair, then there are a dozen more players who should be included so there will probably be a part two just like when I made videos about cards from the 80s 🥅🏒🚨

Thats a great list! I own all the Big rookies in the 1990 Upper deck and 1990 score sets. Those are great cards and they bring back fond memories of being a young hockey fan. I wanted to point out that the 1990-91 score set had a Rookie/Traded supplemental set which had a Yellow border and had some very cool cards of Jagr, Federov, Belfour, Sundin, Bondra, and Owen Nolan as well as yet another Eric Lindros insert card. These sets are still plentiful, can be purchased for a decent price, and are very cool cards to own for old fogies like us 😁
@TheSwedishHockeyCardCollector
Really appreciate you watching and leaving nice comments! 😃👍 90-91 Is a very special year for me. It was the first year we could buy North American hockey cards in my hometown. The owner of a candy store started selling hockey cards. It's great fun to have these old rookie cards so much nostalgia. my hope was to bring that nostalgia to life in those who watch the video. So much today is about the "value" of hockey cards. Back then it was the joy of opening packs and finding your favorite players, trading with friends and trying to get money for more packages 😄

@@TheSwedishHockeyCardCollector I agree 100%! That 1990 draft class was amazing! I'm a terrible investor. I recently got back into collecting and I've gotten some pretty big hits. I think about sending them away for grading for resale then I get sentimental and decide to keep them 🤣. It's actually pretty sad, but the key is having fun. Hockey cards bring out the kid in all of us and that's what its about. For me, its the ruler hockey championships we had in elementary school, making custom hand colored goalie masks out of cereal box cardboard and my coleco tabletop hockey game and the dreams I had about having all the teams to play with instead of just Toronto and Montreal. Good times!

This time and cards were magical. I personally feel Mats Sundin cards are undervalued compared to the rest of these All Stars. I built up quite a Selanne collection in the very early 90's based purely on speculation, needless to say it worked out :)

Fun channel. As a super hockey collector I have dozens of every card on this list - unfortunately they're not worth much raw, despite the fact that the 90's produced some of the games greatest players. Also, both Roenick and Joseph belong in the HOF. Keep up the good work, it's always nice to hear from overseas collectors.
@TheSwedishHockeyCardCollector
Thanks for watching! 😃👍 I also want to thank you for your nice comment! I also have lots of RC cards from the 90s and 80s. To me it matters less how much they are worth. I think it's great to have them and collect them. Sometimes I miss the 90s when you were very happy every time you got one of your favorite players in a pack even if it was just a base card 😊
@Swoop187OG187
@Swoop187OG187 Год назад
@@TheSwedishHockeyCardCollector Indeed. As a collector it's just nice to see hockey fans from all over the globe collecting and enjoying hockey cards. I've been collecting since the late 80's, so this was my "era" growing up - and as a Blackhawks fan I used to get so excited when I pulled a Belfour, Roenick or Hasek rookie, I mean I would be excited all day, lol. I loved Hasek because growing up I played goalie and I thought Hasek was the most unique goalie I had ever seen (then and ever) - and both Roenick and Belfour were superstars from the very beginning.. I left the hobby around 1997/98 because I was 17-18 years old and "cards were for kids", I had a girlfriend and it wasn't "cool" anymore, lol - but I got back into the hobby in 2016, and have been collecting heavily ever since. When I first got back into the hobby I opened a TON of this junk wax stuff and it was just as fun breaking it as I remember it to be, and I was just as pumped when I pulled a Roenick, Belfour or Hasek rookie... And of course when I got back into the hobby as an adult I had more money to spend on cards, lol so I was buying boxes and boxes of "junk-wax" for $5-10 bucks a box and had a blast breaking it.. These days I buy, sell and trade cards on the side part-time to make some supplemental income - and of course because it's just fun and hardly a "job". And over the last 5-6 years or so I've managed to build a pretty substantial collection.. I now have roughly a million cards, lol - I have a large room dedicated to sports cards, so yea. haha. Perhaps sometime we can trade some hockey cards. International shipping to Sweden is a bit pricey but sometime it makes sense for the right trade. I enjoy trading cards instead of just selling them, I mean that's what cards are for - they're for trading which is why they're called "trading cards", lol.. That and trading is fun.
@TheSwedishHockeyCardCollector
@@Swoop187OG187 What a great post to read! Our stories are very similar. As a Swedish child, I started following the NHL in the 80s when my residential area got satellite TV. We got a "window to the world" that was bigger than Sweden's two state television channels at the time. We could see Gretzky, Messier, Lemieux and all the other hockey stars, we could watch Wrestling with Hulk Hogan, He-man and Transformers. It was so much fun. North American hockey cards didn't come to my hometown until 1990-91 and I collected until our local cardshop closed in 1997. Most of my old collection was unfortunately destroyed when our basement were flooded but I've been buying, selling and collecting since 2006, with a few breaks along the way.
@Swoop187OG187
@Swoop187OG187 Год назад
@@TheSwedishHockeyCardCollector Wow, how ironic - I grew up with a satellite dish too (the really-really big ones, 15 feet) My mom even painted the Blackhawks Indian Head logo on the front of the dish. My dad actually ran a small company installing satellite dishes on the weekends back in the 80's to make supplemental income for the family. And both parents were also huge Blackhawks fans to boot. Unfortunately (believe it or not) Hawks home games were "blacked out" er not televised on local TV until 2006 - but obviously with the dish in the 80's/90's we could get the "live feed" straight from Chicago Stadium. I mean it took a while to find the live feed because you had to scan every satellite, but 95% of the time I could find it, lol.. Interesting, we appear to be around the same age (I'm 43) and we had a similar childhood and upbringing/story... Also, my local card shop moved towns in 1997. I actually worked there from the ages of 14-17, but by the time the card shop moved I wasn't into collecting anymore... Then one day back in 2016 I had to buy a birthday present for my nephew so I was in the toy section at Walmart. I saw some hockey cards and I started to get real nostalgic and decided to buy a few blaster boxes, some fat packs and Tins - I spend like $120 bucks - I thought it would be a fun break, I wasn't expecting to get any value out of it other than fun and nostalgia... But I ended up pulling 2 Auston Matthews Young Guns and also his Young Gun Jumbo card from one of the blasters (among other nice YG's) - and I had absolutely no idea how much they were worth until like 3 weeks later when I was bored and decided to look them up on ebay, lol.....I almost fell out of my seat when I saw Matthews YG was selling for $250 each - Boy oh boy I fell in love with the hobby all over again - not only that but I realized cards in 2016 held enough value where I could make some nice cash on the side just participating in a hobby I already love, lol.... Don't get me wrong - I'm a true collector, but I also like to make a few bucks on the side - and I rarely if ever sell anything out of my personal collection. Yea, I would rather trade cards out of my personal collection for other cards I intend to add to my personal collection... So yea, it's pretty wild we share a lot in common, eh? lol
