16 Naruto Myths People Still Believe In 2024

There are many myths that surround the Naruto series even in 2023. Naruto is one of the most popular anime and manga franchises, so naturally there will be many misconceptions about it.
Hard work beats Natural Talent, Naruto has slow pace, Naruto is a kids show, Naruto has awful flashbacks, Naruto lost its strategy in Naruto Shippuden. Many of these myths are perpetuated because of the Naruto anime, while others are wrong notions many people have about the series, mostly because they really love Gaara vs Rock Lee. Naruto has many themes, but saying hard work beats natural talent is the main theme of the Naruto story is wrong.

It's kinda tragic if you think about it because Rock Lee and Guy both lose their biggest fights, proving they were wrong about working hard.

not really just because they lost a fight doesn't mean they didn't prove a point and that's shown through both sasuke and kakashi both of whom were stated and shown to be talented ninja's of their age's. When lee was first introduced he made sasuke his bitch same saskue who graduated top of his class in fact Naruto pointed out how lee worked harder than him and made sasuke realize his talent alone wasn't enough. Kakashi was borderline a prodigy youngest graduate in the naruto series so far and reached jonin when he was still a child yet by guy's own word he beat kakashi a few times I think he was winning their rivalry for a bit. Their last fights were againt shinobi's who were abnormal, gaara is a weird case where he was strong not because he was talented but because he was born with something not normal which he himself had no control over (his father even called him a failed experiment which is why he wanted his son dead). Madara was a god when guy caught up to him and still nearly killed him that's something not even Naruto and Sasuke came close to doing even with the god powers

@@lightyoshimanI still cry after watching how Sasuke caught up with Rock Lee in days and make Garaa look weak, like, Sasuke got stronger but they didn't have to make Rock Lee the one to say "OMG he catch up with my speed and power and all that", while being hospitalized, that's just humiliating...
@lightyoshiman
@lightyoshiman 11 месяцев назад
@@Gacha-Ritual-Master in all honestly that's lee's fault remember only reason Sasuke even reached that level was because lee picked a fight with him and sasuke was able to copy his moves with the sharingan Kakashi even said that the only reason sasuke got to that level was because he knew lee yet sasuke still had to work for it
@Gacha-Ritual-Master
@Gacha-Ritual-Master 11 месяцев назад
@@lightyoshiman yeah but it's not the technique, it's the force and speed behind plus the amount of work put into it, sure Sasuke worked hard but not in a million years harder than lee and for longer yet he reached that level by just seeing how he moves, that's depressing. Plus the fact that Sasuke actually saw every move Lee did in that little fight and just with that matched him, shows that even at that point before training, Sasuke was more gifted, sure hard work plus talent will catch up with only hard work, but if it's THAT fast then it's not even worth trying and that's sad.

“Hardwork beats natural talent” has been debunked by the series so many times it’s hilarious. There are a few really strong characters like Guy and Adult Sakura that got their powers purely due to hard work, but all of the God tiers didn’t. Naruto and Sasuke worked hard at first but then they were just gifted god powers because they were reincarnated demi gods. Madara and Hashirama worked for their powers but they couldn’t get them without being reincarnated demi gods as well.

@jaybronx98 Neji: "Naruto, you were born low class, and you can not possibly overcome that to become a power Ninja, much less Hokage." Naruto; has a demon fox Is the son of a Hokage Is the heir to the Uzumaki clan Is the literal reincarnation of Ninja Jesus Neji; was born in the secondary branch of the Hyuga clan, destined to die to protect Hinata Dies to protect Hinata Lee; Born without any Chakra abilities Never overcomes a natural talented fighter due to training and willpower Shall I continue? Neji believed that people were born into a certain destiny and that fate couldn't be changed, a low class would remain a low class, hard work, and determination meant nothing. Naruto (unknowingly) gaslit Neji by beating him as a "low class" with a Jutsu it took him a long time to master. But in fact, Neji was right. As a member of the branch house, his fate was to die protecting the main house member, Hinata, which he did. Naruto, who was misidentified as a low class, was actually the son of one of, if not THE strongest leaf Ninjas ever. He was also the reincarnation of Ninja Jesus, so Neji misidentified Naruto but wasn't wrong. Naruto was fated to be the strongest Ninja around. In which way did I fail to assess the manga? How was Neji wrong?

@@dr.calibrations7984 being the son of a hokage doesn’t mean he’s destined for greatness😂😂 asuma was hiruzens son what was great about him?? Heir to the uzumaki clan is a stretch, he had no idea of his lineage nor could use any of their abilities. Being the reincarnation of ashura only means he was destined to kill or be killed by indras reincarnation, sasuke. That’s it. You clearly missed the point and it shows. Neji was born into the secondary branch yet was more talented than any other hyuga in his era including main branch members which hiashi stated himself. And he also wasn’t destined to die protecting the main branch, that was just a rule the main branch set for the side branch. He did what his father did, which was CHOOSING to die for his family not being forced by destiny to do so. Look at it this way, if Neji was still bitter towards the main branch and hated Hinata like he did in part 1, you think he genuinely would’ve jumped in and died for her? No he wouldn’t bc he was running from this so called “destiny” which was just the main branch’s selfish rule they decided to pass for the side branch which he was against. Neji being a changed person is what made him CHOOSE to sacrifice his life not destiny. Neji believed that destiny was fixed and that you couldn’t change it no matter what. Naruto proved him wrong by literally breaking the cycle of hatred that had been going on for over 1000 years and was destined to continue. He proved you could change your fate. Shall I continue? I can keep debunking this misinterpreted stereotype all day cause I see it so much.

@@dr.calibrations7984h for fuck's sake. Neji's entire world view was that a person born into a role cannot escape that role no matter how hard they work or how much they improve. Naruto being an Uzumaki, being Minato's son and being a Jinchuuriki means fuck all if he never bothered to DO anything to improve. Being a Jinchuuriki never guaranteed that he'd ever be able to control that power, having a fuck ton of chakra means jackshit if your control is garbage (which is a real thing that Naruto struggled with and is why he couldn't do a Rasengan one-handed for so long), being Minato's son didn't automatically make him any stronger than anyone else. It seriously baffles me that people say "Neji was right" when he was proven wrong in the same arc. Naruto literally fights a twisted reflection of himself in the form of Gaara. If Neji was correct, Gaara and Naruto were both born to the role of "monster" and would never escape that label. The arc literally ends with Gaara losing and going "Well fuck, maybe I can be more than monster" and he DOES. Hell, the series literally ends with Naruto stepping outside of his role as Ashura's current transmigrant by not only resolving the situation with Sasuke without killing him, but by also refusing to let Sasuke die on his own initiative. The thing people like to scream about as "proof that Neji was right" literally ends by proving Neji wrong. If Neji was right, Naruto would have either killed Sasuke or died. Slight tangent, people hyperfocus on the Lee thing so much when "hardwork beats natural talent" was only ever vital to Lee's character. The series was never about that no matter what people scream. If that was going to be the message then Kishimoto wouldn't have ended Lee's big fight with him being literally crippled and unable to do the one thing he wants to do above anything else. If really was intended to be a big theme, Kishimoto wouldn't have shown exactly what happens when natural talent decides to work harder AND utilizes their natural advantages by having Sasuke literally jack Lee's entire flow in a single month. Also Christ almighty how can anybody walk away from the scene showing that Hizashi's sacrifice was a CHOICE which Neji's sacrifice is supposed to parallel and decide "Oh yeah he was totally right about unchangeable, rigid destiny" when his death scene hammers home that he understood the freedom his father felt in CHOOSING to die for a loved one. Like for fuck's sake man, you can make the argument that Kurama was a get of jail free card but he was A.) Actively hostile B.) His power was literally killing Naruto every time he used it C.) Naruto would have never gotten access to Kurama's full power if his personality wasn't what it was. Naruto would have never been what he was without his sheer determination, his charisma and his willingness to empathize with people. Take all of those away and you have....Part 1 Gaara, though maybe not quite as batshit crazy.

I think when people say “Shippuden became like DBZ” it’s less about strategy not being used. The complaint is more about over the top abilities. For example, somebody using water to make a water dragon doesn’t feel out of place. You get to Shippuden and you got characters dropping meteors or having hax that can only be countered by uber top tier characters. Nagato is the best example of this. Think about when he returns during the war. He is revived by a hax ability that makes him unkillable by normal means, then has to be haxed by Itachi to be defeated, Itachi had to hax Naruto with a hax that isn’t even his own to hax himself. Strategy only really applies to characters who have the hax to counter whatever hax they are facing. Not to mention, anyone who thinks there wasn’t strategy in Dragon Ball clearly didn’t pay attention. Just because characters don’t have inner dialogue about their strategy doesn’t mean there is no strategy.

I still disagree with the statement bc part 1 had giant kaiju fights too which people complain about in shippuden. Not to mention we see crazy hax in part 1 as well like orochimaru literally reviving the dead and using them as puppets, hiruzen summoning a literal reaper to take orochimarus soul, Itachi putting you in a 3day genjutsu that only lasts an instant in the real world, gaara turning an entire forest into a desert with just one jutsu, kakashi turning a forest into a lake with just one jutsu, temari destroying an entire forest with a fan swing, kimmimaro changing the entire terrain of the battle into giant bones etc. All of these things can be seen as over the top for early on feats.

I think it's simply because Shippuden fights always, as in ALWAYS has at least one S-class ninja involved In Part 1, the fights are mostly just Genin or Chunin fights, so of course the jutsus they use are mostly simple. But on the other hand, I cant remember a fight in Shippuden where there's no S-class ninja participating. The "weakest" or most "low-level" fight in Shippuden is Kakashi vs Naruto/Sakura at the very beginning, and yet it still features Kakashi, one of the strongest Jonins in the world. If you think about it, literally EVERY fight in Shippuden has at least one Kage/Sannin/Akatsuki/Jinchuriki. On the other hand the fights in Part 1 are mostly just genins and chunins

I think you misunderstand the criticism that Naruto has become more about Dragon Ball Z power levels as opposed to skilled fights. I can't speak for everyone, but my criticism to that end has always been that part 1 was more grounded. The characters felt and were portrayed as normal humans that could SOMETIMES shoot magic. The magic wasn't something they could just spam like a water gun in the ocean, it was something they used sparingly, so every time you saw a new one it was exciting and had tension. Early Shipuuden feels similar to P1, but after the pain fight it's just downhill. Theoretically, a child could kill a Jonin in P1 because it was their skill that separated them from genin, not their physical durability, which is why Zabuza was scared of a kunai thrown by a fresh genin. By the end, half the cast is tanking nuclear blasts. Jutsus that used to be really lethal just seem like something you throw as a minor inconvenience and not to actually get a killing blow.
@Exiled28
@Exiled28 11 месяцев назад
Exactly this, it's about the presentation. The battles where always skillful yes, but the way a character like Madara can just casually summon meteors or a dozen of susanoo clones by the end of the series without even trying really hampered the perception of the show, that's why I vastly prefer part 1, shippuden was the beginning of Naruto turning into a generic shounen imo.

@fabien-bouvier
@fabien-bouvier 10 месяцев назад
No. It doesn't. It means that hard working in the things you have natural talent for is the only way to master something and to achieve to be one of the best at it. That being said, a hard worker will be far better than a gifted person who don't work at all. Naruto IS about hard working... ALONG with your talent and not against it. Would a hard working fish beat a monkey when it comes to climb trees ? Never. Would a hard working monkey beat a fish when it comes to swimming ? Never. Hard working your way through something you're not aimed for is a huge loss of energy. Because any natural talented person will just go farther than you with a tiny fraction of your energy. If your natural talent is the locked door to mastery, hard working is the key of that door.

@@fabien-bouvier This is literally what every Naruto fan says to defend the themes of "Hard work vs talent". Look, I get your point, your example is good and whatnot taken out of context, but you can't deny the fact that, at least in the beginning, Naruto was presented as this loser who failed exams and couldn't even perform basic jutsus, and yet he still wanted to be a hokage despite being a "kind of trash" Genin. The only thing he had going for him up until he fought Neji was that he was the vessel for a literal beast, otherwise he had nothing else going for him because he wasn't bright enough as characters like Sasuke and Shikamaru, and he brute forced most of his fights with shadow clones (which was like the only jutsu he knew, ignoring Rasengan). Shippuden kind of retcons this by saying that it was always his "destiny" to become the equivalent of a God (and don't try to sell me on the whole "Oh but he still had to work hard to fulfill his destiny!" idea because that's not how destiny works, unless you actively try to prevent it, it will always happen), so his speech to Neji does become weird looking back on it because he was never an underdog at all, he was just (wrongly) considered as one; in other words, he was more of a "wasted talent" case, only because people didn't like him. Hell, even Kiba considered him trash in his fight against him because he was always pictured as a talentless clown by everyone else. Shippuden however retcons the entire idea by giving him connections (being the kid of both a Hokage and a woman who comes from a clan of people with insane chakra reserves, on top of being the literal reincarnation of a God), so the story shifts from "a fish who tried his hard to climb a tree and in the end he achieved it" to "a fish who, at the beginning, tried hard to climb a tree and couldn't, but then it turns out that he could grow wings because he was a special fish in the end". I believe that the main message was always about "hard work vs talent" prior to Shippuden, because you have other characters like Lee and Sakura, who although had some advantages of their own (mainly Sakura due to her innate chakra control, being somewhat intelligent and coming from a relatively well off family), they both were given a bad hand when compared to other ninjas who could spam magic nonstop from the tip of their fingers, and yet they still tried to keep up with the rest in their own way. Or what, you're going to tell me that a show aimed at teenagers wanted to send the message of "hey kids! If you have no talent, you should unalive yourselves because no amount of hard work is going to make your dreams come true!"? Please.

Meh. It's like real life. Everyone is talented in SOMETHING, but most choose to go into fields they aren't talented in(Lee). So they work hard to close the gap, and in the real world, that MAY OR MAY NOT get you a win against someone talented. So Lee lost to Gaara(because sometimes life isn't fair), and the talented THAT ALSO works hard(Neji, Sasuke, and Naruto) will always outshine him. It's a pretty good message about life that people ignore because they get jaded or hurt that hard work doesn't always win people the day.

Naruto being able to do the shadow clone technique while not being able to do a normal clone makes perfect sense. Naruto vs Pain was a good example. Naruto literally started crying to his dad because of how much hard work he had to put in because of his situation. The very first episode of the show Iruka talks about how hard Naruto works. Narutos fight against Neji..etc. The confusion comes from the show throwing the theme away when convenient and making characters gods.

When Naruto talks to his dad about working hard, he was talking about everything in his life, not just training. Plus, the MC of a shounen cam work hard and not have the theme reflect that(Luffy or Gon). Naruto's fight with Neji was philosophical about destiny, not hard work. When Iruka talks about Naruto working hard, it's in the context of being acknowledged, not training(cuz he was ass).
@aolegion35
@aolegion35 10 месяцев назад
@thewiseyounglad2699 go back and watch Naruto and Minato again. Yes, Naruto is talking about his entire life, but hard work overcoming isn't just about the physical aspect. Naruto also says specifically how he keep having to train because of the challenges coming at him. Which is exactly what Minato didn't want for him, that's why his name is Uzamaki. In the Neji fight, Neji was speaking of destiny Narutos point was counter to that. He was saying F destiny if you work hard enough you make your own. A point the show forgot later by making Naruto the literal " Child of Destiny" thereby making Neji correct and the fight meaningless. Even the fight we all love Garra vs Rock Lee shows the hard work theme. In that Rock Lee had the moral victory while keep Garra a threat for later.
@thewiseyounglad2699
@thewiseyounglad2699 10 месяцев назад
@aolegion35 Neji, whose main theme is "succumbing to fate"(or "overcoming fate" if you want to be charitable, but i'm not dying on THAT hill), talks about destiny and how everyone has a predetermined fate. Naruto disagrees with this and explains that destiny shouldn't be used as a crutch to be a jerk, like Neji is when attempting to murder Hinata or talking down to Naruto himself. So was Neji right? Everyone seems to think so, but why? Is it because Naruto is the child of prophecy? Well, it was stated that the child of prophecy would either bring peace to the world OR destroy it. I find this interesting because it takes the age-old formula of a character fulfilling one goal, one destiny, and flips it on its head by placing a 50% chance in Naruto actually becoming the villain. The simple fact that Naruto has both agency and a choice in the outcome already puts Neji's values on shaky ground(though Neji was right about his own destiny to die for the main branch unless you want to be charitable, but again, im not dying on that hill). BUT! You still disagree with me. Why? Because Naruto is the reincarnation of Ashura? Well, that's funny because, as Ashura's reincarnation, Naruto is destined to meet and battle with Indra's reincarnation, Sasuke. Now Ashura did hope that a future incarnation of himself could resolve things peacefully, but his intention doesn't matter as his actions contributed to a cycle that the Sage of Six Paths feared would continue when Sasuke wanted to have his final battle with Naruto. DESTINY ITSELF, the concept Neji spoke about, ordained that Naruto(as Ashura's reincarnation) would do battle with Sasuke(Indra's reincarnation), and continue the cycle of hatred. This path where the two could potentially kill each other might have very well been the catalyst that pushed Naruto to fulfill the evil side of his prophecy in destroying the world(among other things), made even more evident with the treatment he received growing up as a Jinchuriki(that made him hate the world back for a time), and the antagonist that reflected his character(challenging his views, and in some cases, trying to make Naruto fall as low as they did).

The complaint is that they became overly powerful. Like in Part 1, Hiruzen vs Orochimaru was seen as a HIGH LEVEL KAGE BATTLE. Yet pretty much everything in Shippuden blows that fight out the water. Now, there is some solid possible reasoning for this. Orochi hadn't perfected Edo Tensei yet, Hiruzen knew they were weaker than they were before and didn't see the need to do much more. Although, he did use Reaper Death Seal, sooooo... It's just the power creep over time, but to be fair, all anime have the power creep. Also, yeah DBZ does have strategy. Against Vegeta, Goku was trying to overpower him but after that failed, they were trying to outmaneuver him and force him out his transformation while buying time for Goku to charge the spirit bomb. Against Frieza, Goku was initially trying to overpower him, but when they were evenly matched, he ended up using a lot of abilities to catch him off guard. The feet Kamehameha, the delayed Kamehameha, after images, and later a lot of teamwork to get the spirit bomb off. Now when he got SSJ, yeah it was kinda just I'm stronger and I'm gonna beat you to a pulp, but Goku had earned that pay off by struggling up to that point and he unlocked a legendary form from rage. Even then, he used strategy later in the fight. Frieza got scared realizing he couldn't win and tried to blow up the planet. However, Goku had been fighting him for so long and had beaten him so brutally as a Super Saiyan, Frieza wasn't confident he'd survive a planet blowing up himself. Not only that, Frieza couldn't even use full power anymore due to his injuries and stamina loss. Once he failed to insta kill the planet, Goku let him power up to maximum and it still wasn't enough. The strategy stopped being about beating the villain and became about how to save everyone before the planet exploded.

Just look at; Sasuke vs Danzo, a Kage Level battle on Shippuden. Sasuke vs Kage's. Sasuke vs Itachi (not counting Kirin, cause if you follow it's explanation, it used a small amount of chakra) Look at Kakashi vs Obito. Naruto vs 3rd Raikage. Gaara vs His Father. So many fights later in the series are still on the same scale as Orichimaru's Kage Level Battle. The biggest fights we've seen are very reasonable on scale. They're litteral gods, not just ninjas anymore, it'd be VERY weird if they just fart out the same level of scale. The problem is not that they will use giant things like Naruto did against Gara in the chunin exams, but that they were an exception, with well-defined costs and not something regular that Don Pepe also had. An example of this is Hashirama's cells that later in the work literally made Jutsus who had costs no longer had them, or now because of Hashirama's cells, the cost is so minuscule that it is no longer taken into account. And have a little shame on that face. You can't compare Kakashi and Zabuza finger dancing for 3 pages to make the water dragon, which damaged a considerable part of the forest but did not break the entire forest when it hit Zabuza. With Naruto ,who can literally create a chakra mecha in a matter of seconds and wipe out a continent.

It is obvious that hard work versus talent was never the main theme surrounding Naruto, not to mention that it is a flawed philosophy in the series that almost ended Rock Lee's ninja career. When Rock Lee was fighting Gaara, he recklessly opens up the Gates without thinking of the consequences because he wanted to show off to Neji how far he had come. But Gaara is able to withstand his assault and all of a sudden Lee is left defenseless and if not for Tsunade his career as a ninja would have been over. Kakashi himself noticed that Rock Lee was not pure hard work considering that he was able to access the eight inner gates technique to a high extent. Kakashi called Lee a pure genius. The main theme of Naruto was demonstrated in the first chapter with a social outcast developing close bonds and working to end the cycle of hatred, with Iruka defending and accepting Naruto despite Naruto being the host of the creature that killed Iruka's parents. Iruka admitted that Naruto possessed an amazing amount of potential considering that he mastered a high-caliber technique in one day and beat a chunin-level ninja easily with that technique. It was reaffirmed by Kakashi, who indicates both Naruto and Sasuke have great talent within them and both possess a vast amount of chakra reserves that would make them deadly ninjas with their training was complete. Besides the words hard work never leaves Naruto's mouth during the Neji fight. He has says one line where he vaguely gives his opinion that people's destinies aren't predetermined. The rest of his dialogue is telling Neji that he doesn't give a shit and to stop making personal assumptions about other people. Neji is repeatedly caught off guard by unforeseen circumstances in the fight. Naruto's entire problem with Neji is that the latter character believes in resigning one's self to fate, even though he's being a total hypocrite about it. Neji claimed that Naruto did not understand bearing an inescapable curse despite being the host of the ferocious Nine-Tailed Fox and hated by the entire Leaf Village. Naruto calls Neji out that despite being a member of the cadet branch of the Hyuga that Neji used the Chunin Exams to beat up Hinata and prove his superiority over the main branch, defying his supposed fate. Hinata herself was trying to improve herself and defy her fate by earning respect despite being considered hopeless by her father. Neji may possess amazing talent but also we see him train constantly, just like Sasuke works hard as well. Neji's philosophy was steeped in the idea that everyone's destiny is predetermined when they're born, and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't divert that path, Rock Lee proved that he was a splendid ninja and Naruto became Hokage. The Hokage hat was never guaranteed to Naruto considering that he was hated by the entire village for a long time and Itachi already said you have to be acknowledged by the people to become Hokage. The truth of the matter is that the only thing Naruto inherited from his parents was a curse that nearly led to him being overcome by hatred many times as a wild animal before finally proving himself to Kurama. Naruto's reserves are actually humongous because Kurama's power was leaking into his own reserves with the seal designed by Minato. Hagoromo literally says Naruto inherited nothing and the only thing Sasuke has is trauma. Naruto was supposed to die fighting Sasuke instead he redeemed and saved his former friend. Even the peace Naruto helped create after the Fourth Great Ninja War has proven itself to not be perfect or completely stable, instead the only thing holding the alliance together is the power of Naruto and Sasuke. Now without their main abilities temporary peace will finally begin to unravel.

Other things you consider about destiny not being predetermined is, Jiraiya rhiught Minato was supposed to be this "Child of prophecy" but then Minato dies. So Naruto ends of being that child. Well it was prophesied. The privacy could have easily changed if anything was different about Naruto and his experiences. Don't reason why Naruto's prophecy and his fate happen the way it did, because of who he is. And what he went through. I see prophecies and fate with many different paths but with the same ending. But very specific paths can potentially alter the prophecy or erase it all together to a new, different future. So all I think Naruto still isn't bound by fate. He did to fulfill a prophecy. Just my two cents

To me, at least, the Naruto Shippuden become DBZ-esque isn't because people stop using strategy. Akira Toriyama did write fights with characters capable of strategic thinking as well. Much of the comparison is indeed the massive power-creep. Yes the demon fox was powerful in the first chapter but that was an exceptional outlier, the expectations set by the Jounin, Kage, and Sennin-level fights seen in Naruto were far more subdued and felt much more magical ninja-esque than Shippuden. There's also is how ridiculously redundant (Yamcha-fied, if you will) most of the cast became, the persistent use of power-ups to scale higher and higher for both the main protagonist and antagonist, both of which contribute to the entire setting being reduced to a handful of super-powered martial artists punching one another... and that gets even worse in Boruto.

For me this is one of the bigger blunders of naruto. Naruto literally is the son of prophecy and is pretty neglected in terms of his skill set until sage mode j so the message of working hard is implemented. Like Naruto deadass is an uzamaki, had the 9 tails, is the son of a former hokage and rizzed up the daughter of the main head from the hyuga clan 💀.

Except for his bad videos like not understanding the actual concept of "relatability" in character writing and thinking just because boruto has a functioning family that automatically makes him a relatable protagonist character and naruto being an outcast was not, when relatability is relative to the person viewing. Naruto is actually ALOT more relatable than Boruto is for kids that did grow up in broken homes and struggled with their social skills and education as well as personal baggage they were born with like mental health issues.

Another stereotype (or is it) is that Naruto has too many powers and abilities with very little restrictions. Bloodline limits and Tailed-beast chakra can be mad science into multiple people (Hashirama is the most egregious example). The introduction of cloning means lost powers can be resurrected and integrated into practically anyone. Pretty much any Naruto-verse power is up for grabs.

Maybe it's not hardwork beats talent, there's no denying that hard work is a theme. Naruto may have had a bunch of advantages, but if he didn't work hard, he never would've been able to take advantage of them. Like he had the Chakra to do the rasengan as a kid, but he still couldn't really do it properly until well into Shippuden. Really the only technique handed to him was Shadow Clones in chapter 1. He mastered it in a day, which is kinda BS. Part 1 has Naruto fairly balanced imo, he's not really on the level of a Jonin or Genin. And not even close to a Sannin or Kage. But he's definitely among the best of his peers.

If Shippuden ended after the Pain arc I totally wouldn't complain because it was so well rounded. At most I'd say Rinnegan Madara could have been stronger. I think powercreep is eventual in most anime but plenty have ways to negate powercreep for the most part like JoJo. There the characters improved their intellect. I think power creep in Naruto could have ended at high Kage level instead of slapping Aliens in.

I think the fighters pre-shippuden were more nuanced, and had more of a risk of failure to it. When people complain about the power scaling, it was more about the intricacy of the fight - not necessarily a broad yes or no to whether there was a strategy. We do not see the intricacy of insect jutsu, because how could it be relevant in the war arc? What about the ability to copy moves, or anything that facilitated a problem-solving strategy that required diversity of jutsu to be successful. The byakugon is useless, weapon mastery is useless - there isn't much that is unknown, and we know everyones limits pretty well. There isn't any organic cleverness like in a Shikamaru fight, or an underhanded way you'd expect a shinobi to fight. Much more overt. Its a clear transition, don't try to gaslight us >.>

As someone who had natural talent in track and field, I can say that hard work beats talent. My lifetime 4-minute 25-second mile, 100-meter time of 11.2 seconds, and 200-meter time of 23 seconds were all the result of hard work and dedication. However, there was a kid whose father trained military vets, and every day he got faster and faster. I wanted help, but nobody would help me since I already had natural talent. He beat me, and that same day I hurt myself to the point of not being able to run anymore. I felt his progress, and it was frustrating. Being a runner for so long, you learn to scope out your opponents easily. He was always much stronger than me, and I just had natural talent. I was such a clown that I'd sometimes flex and run with my hands in my pockets, so I got the nickname 'Hot Pockets' on my track team. Anyways, the saying goes that if you have a gift, you need to do whatever it takes to improve it. I tried, but I failed. I don't want anyone else to fail. I sometimes wonder if my rivals are still running. I definitely repaired my hip flexor enough to maybe be better than I was, but I wouldn't know how to start running again.

See, you fail to understand Naruto. People think that Lee is right. Lee is wrong. Natural Talent ALWAYS beat Hard work. Because you have to nurture the natural talent. ergo, natural Talent and Hard Work walk hand in hand. Lee doesn't have a real philosophy,he is simply bitter about his inabilities, if you do not have blocks, how the hell do you build a house? the same for Lee, he had nothing to build upon, so of course he could not become as good as Sasuke or Naruto. Lee does not understand what he talks about, he is self-delusional. So much so that he used a mortal technique in the equivalent of a high school test. Gaara was not going for the kill until Lee tried to kill Gaara. Guy does not believe in Hard work beats talent. Guy-sensei believes in living your life to the best of your ability. That is why Madara showers him with praise. Guy lost, true, but he fought for something he believed in and at the same time, gave time to Naruto and Sasuke to recover and that was his plan, he never planned on winning.

I am one of those people who feel like the Boruto series isn't canon. First of all, how was Boruto able to travel back in time and be in the same scene as a 12-13 year old Naruto? That's like when Albus and Scorpius travel back in time in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (which also isn't canon in its universe but the author says it is) with a time turner which should have been destroyed with all the other time turners. Another stereotype is the philosophy of "creating your own destiny vs having your destiny determined for you before you are born". All throughout the first Naruto series, Naruto wanted to become Hokage so that everyone would respect him after everyone basically rejected him due to him having the very beast that attacked the village and killed thousands just after his birth inside of him. Even characters like Neji and Hinata were reminded that they weren't as much of failures as him (though Hinata was pretty close to being a failure as she lost a duel to her younger sister of all people). However, as Shippuden continued on, it felt like Naruto was destined to become Hokage anyway, as he was the only child of the 4th Hokage, like Neji believed during the Chunin Exams (he believed that Naruto's destiny was already laid out for him, but didn't know what that destiny was).

Just the whole thing with Urashiki does not exist since the time travel chakra turtle that Urashiki used 100% removes Urashiki him self from those past events when Boruto and Sasuke used the time travel Chakra turtle to kill Urashiki ,so when killing Urashiki. Sauske said he had to use the Rinnegan to memory wipe everyone from the past with some broken Jutsu Sauske had removed every thing that happened with Boruto and Sauske when the time travel filler plot line happened besides its a filler arc that removes its own events from the past on what Sasuke did at the end of it. to me the whole Boruto series should have been seasonal it would have been way better off this way without the filler.

You never see Ino using her juts in a cool way, you never see Hinata use twin lion fists to do anything. So all we ever see if Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura etc summoning Kurama, Katsuya, Susanoo etc. Additionally even if only a few characters do that it makes every other characters nearly useless like in the Pain fight,or how no one would have done anything to Juubito since they didn’t have sage mode, how no amount of strategy could help Hinata contribute to defeating Isshiki. There are some good moments when characters use thier smarts to contribute but you know you’ll never see them actually fight unless the plot demands it (Sakura punching Kaguya). Temari will never fight Obito, it’s just Naruto, Hashirama, Hiruzen, Kakshi etc.

The idea of "hard work vs natural talent" never having been a core theme rings kind of hollow when the entire beginning of the series was almost entirely about Naruto- the screw-up of the academy- working hard to measure up to Sasuke's natural talent. It was what made him a compelling character to watch, so I'd argue that "hard work vs natural talent" is a prettty important theme. Therefore having the rest of the story shit all over it really sucks. Neji was genuinely right. You think every other person in the village over the years didn't become Hokage just because they _didn't try hard enough?_ Hokage, like Naruto who himself is the son of a Hokage and a reincarnated demigod, are _born._

Thank you! The catharsis to Naruto beating Neji in the Chunin Exams instead of Hinata (who wasn't strong enough) and Lee (who was walled by Gaara), was that he was going to be beaten by another underdog character that worked to become powerful. Kishimoto didn't use Lee to show that hardwork was worthless. His whole point was to inspire people to work harder by making the character awesome. Kakashi is a genius by everyones standards and he loses most of his fights. Not because he's weak. It's because the story uses him to hype up other characters. One of the reasons Naruto was loved early on, was because he was seen as an underdog that people doubted. That changed later when he became the child of prophecy, but that doesn't mean that this hardwork narrative never existed. Tsunade said that training Naruto was a waste of time. He'd never master the Rasengan. Orochimaru also calls Naruto worthless and says that Jiraiya took the kid under his wing, because the "failure" reminded him of himself. He said that Naruto would never rival a genius like Sasuke. It's even in the Sasuke and Itachi relationship. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s-gcHD_-21U.html At this point, I feel like people are gaslighting us into believing this was never a part of the story. You have such a shallow understanding of the series. Is Naruto not BOTH talented and a hard worker ? why are you separating the two ? Sasuke Neji and Kakashi are "geniuses" but all of them work hard. Naruto works hard also but has latent talents and potential the series constantly stresses to the readers. And no Neji was wrong Naruto was not destined to be Hokage, being the son of minato did not grant him any power or abilities and being the reincarnate of Ashura meant he was destined to kill Sasuke, but guess what he fought that destiny and broke it proving neji wrong. You guys just reiterate the same robotic takes about a kids series that anyone who actually read the series would be able to know was wrong.

I think that for Naruto it was more that he could work hard because he had a 'talent' (that being large chakra reserves). so for those who didn't know he had this 'talent' it seemed like it was just because of hard work. so those who didn't know of it, they would 100% see it as "hard work vs natural talent". And likewise with Team 7 vs Kaguya. These aren’t small things, these are literally some of the most important fights in the series. And all of them go against the notion that “the winner is the most powerful”.

@melo0893 1) If a Hyuga clan member says the side branch cannot ever change their role of protecting the main branch, and then calls that destiny, does that mean that there is never an instance where a side branch Hyuga chooses to protect a main branch Hyuga and it ISN'T destined? How does one actually determine that? 2) Also, some fans cherrypick Naruto's experiences (out of 3 or more years of his entire life) and claim that proves Neji's position on destiny, yet seem to ignore many of the other identifiable characters in the series. What was Neji's actual prescribed destiny position on Lee? If it was a permanent failure state, how would Neji have actually measured that? How about Ten Ten or Sakura? Iruka? Choji? Neji extrapolated his beliefs to EVERY person in their world, so how would he have determined that they were all on a permanent destiny path that they could not ever change?

I disagree with the whole "Hard work beats Natural talent" argument you are making. Because its True and False at the same time... At the start of the series it was absolutely true, hard work/determination/tenacity CAN beat Talent/Fate. I think that is what the show was going for in the beginning, it was an anime about a talent-less, skill-less, orphan that was shunned and hated by everyone in his village, and that by working hard and being persistent he could achieve all the things everybody else had. He was an UNDERDOG, his parents were nobodies, he had zero friends, everyone kept him at arms length, wanting nothing to do with him. THAT was what made people relate to Naruto at first! He had everything going AGAINST him but he kept going, pushing himself, wanting to prove himself to everyone. Turning his curse (Nine-tails) into a blessing, and by the end of his journey he would finally be accepted by his peers and recognized for his efforts and contributions to the Village. [See Neji VS Naruto fight in Part 1. Neji was proven wrong about Talent/Destiny/Fate, whatever you call it!] But as the series went on, cracks started to form, it became less and less about hard work/determination/tenacity and ALL about Talent/Destiny/Fate. We find out that Naruto is a VERY SPECIAL INDIVIDUAL after all. His father was the 4th Hokage (a position that Naruto strives for) and a Top-tier Ninja overall. His mother, an Uzumaki, was from a very special clan, a group of people that have a gigantic amount of chakra, a thing he inherited from her. (Herself having connections to the 1st and 2nd Hokage through her ancestors). He was trained by the very best teachers that were available (Kakashi, that would later become the 6th Hokage. Jiraiya, student of the 3rd Hokage and teammate to the future 4th Hokage. The Toad Sage, who taught him Sage Mode, that gave him an even BIGGER amount of chakra. And then you have the reincarnation part... I am not even going to comment further, it speaks for itself... [See Neji VS Naruto fight in Part 1. Neji is proven RIGHT about Talent/Destiny/Fate!] The reincarnation part is the final nail in the coffin, that was the part that crossed the line for me. And I can't watch the show the same way as I once did unfortunately. Its a anime that is RUINED going back and watching it knowing the things we now know. Things that don't add up, that make NO SENSE whatsoever. That is why Part 1 makes no sense now, because we know that NO ONE would shun and neglect the SON OF THE FOURTH HOKAGE! Naruto is an UZUMAKI, he is ROYALTY for God's sake! He wouldn't be treated like he was in the beginning of the anime. Its a show made worse with the 2nd part. It is a contradictory series that never figured out what it's core message and themes were, a series that wasn't well planned out. Watching this video reinforced my point about Naruto and what a terrible protagonist he truly is. This video is an argument against the series' quality. Because nothing Naruto did is earned (or very little of it is), the vast majority of powers etc, is just handed to him, either by his heritage, teachers and Gods... Making your protagonist the Chosen One is a pitfall MANY authors fall into, (One Piece being a good example). It lessens your character's autonomy/free will. DON'T DO IT! EVER!

Well said, it's good to see people that understand how writing actually works. The series is extremely contradictory in it's themes and messages because of the way in which it was written - week by week, retcon heavy, and on a tight deadline with a large incentive to drive audience engagement, NOT necessarily to create a cohesive, well written narrative with strong foundational themes meant to resonate throughout the entire story. In short, it lacked direction, as weekly publicized manga often does. You can point to countless examples of this but needn't look further than DBZ to see the same sort of thing.

While the series certainly has its contradictions, the Neji destiny thing was NOT one of them. *You're oversimplifying Neji's very specific, absolutist position on destiny and conflating it with later destiny elements that are not related to Neji's beliefs. Like, Neji didn't just believe that destiny exists, some people are destined for greatness and others are not, or that destiny guides you toward some kind of success/failure state. Neji actually believed that destiny locked every single person onto a specific path that they can never change or escape at any point in their life, and that success and failure were always permanent states and people were only locked onto either one.* You can't honestly suggest that's the same conception of destiny as the Child of Prophecy and reincarnation concepts, which were conceptually and narratively more localized and flexible than Neji's absolutist worldview.

The reason I believe the "misconception" that Shipuuden is like DBZ (apart from the obvious increase of durability and ridiculous abilities) is because there are so many retcons, asspulls, bad revelations, and in general terrible writing that makes the "good points" of those fights worthless. -"Hey! Sakura's getting screentime vs Sasori", yeah but she's being pupeteered almost the whole fight. -"Sasuke vs Itachi is great" First part is a boooring illusion fight and the Itachi retcon is horrendous in of itself. -"Naruto vs Pain is the pinnacle for Naruto" The fight and Naruto's "arc resolution" are not enough to justify that horrendous evangelization no jutsu, because if it wasn't for that, Naruto would not be able to deliver its message. -"Sasuke vs Danzo is good" It's not, Danzo just tanks everything Sasuke throws at him with Izanagi when he could've saved sharingans with the GODDAMN substitution jutsu. And if this is only regarding the first half, imagine how horrendous it feels to watch the rest of the show/read the manga when now Naruto is Jesus Christ

The "hard work beats natural talent" theme has another character supporting it: Naruto. He starts the story as a boy with no talent, that can't even do a simple transformation jutsu, but has a dream of becoming Hokage and will work as hard as he can to achieve that, something stated when he injuries he's on hand, or when he can reach the top of the tree competing with Sasuke. Rock Lee vs Gaara made that theme a lot more important, while Naruto vs Neji really made that theme solid because Neji was saying all the time that hard work doesn't matter, your fate is established when you are born, and Naruto beats him because he can't believe in that because himself wasn't born with anything special. That should be one of the main themes of the series, but then Naruto is the reincarnation of a demigod destined to be powerful and the whole theme is blasted away. And "never give up" is just another way of saying the same thing. It would be really curious if Naruto kept saying that he would never give up on his dreams while sitting all day without doing anything for it and suddenly becomes Hokage because he never gave up.
