INFJ 9w1 - thanks for acknowledging INFJ's usually overlooked Creator aspect! Most people expect the Sage but your insights illustrate some ways our Sage-like and Artistic aspects come from the same place: driven by a need to realize a vision, perfectionist with multiple unfinished projects, seeking vehicles to articulate a truth... perhaps the ISFP is more often the "typical" Artist, more in touch with emotion and possibly more "bohemian," while the INFJ could be more interested in a "truth and knowledge" kind of expression and thus more prone to perfectionism and never finishing? Just a thought.

Thank you, you have completely nailed this for me as an INFP and type 9. My brother is an INFJ and he is an artist and creator of beautiful gardens.

INFP 4w5 here: I relate much to the Innocent, but I have a lot of walls up around my feelings, and I no longer invest unearned trust in people. I personally relate to the Sage, having an insatiable hunger for knowledge. The more I absorb builds increasingly into the huge web of understanding in my mind.

Your understanding of ESFPS's (from a perspective of one) is very well, it blows me away each video, and oddly enough makes me feel better because people usually don't care about our type enough to deep dive into it and really understand how the functions work and how they are experienced/what it looks like on the outside. So thank you for having an absolutely amazing channel and 10/10 content!

INFP type 4w5 I relate to the artist/creator type, not the innocent. I'm definitely not naive and overly trusting of people. As a quiet, sensitive person I learnt a long time ago to be wary of people in general. And I've reached my permanent limit with other people's machinations years ago. I don't put up with it anymore.

As someone who has always found the jungian archetypes fascinating (along with the depth of Carl's psychological work), I'm glad to see them explored from the angle of the more popular MBTI that much was based on Jung's work. A great mesh of the original depth and the popular tropes. Great work.

I was pleasantly surprised to see my type considered the Artist. As many have mentioned, we INFJs are typically Counselors or Sages or Gandalf or whatever and that’s true, I definitely spend a lot of time in my head and observing the world, particularly people. But I have always been a Creator. Long before I knew anything about MBTI, I’ve been writing and drawing and crafting. My creativity is my very soul. My INFJ perspective contributes to my art as I seek ways to express the human condition and to more fully understand the flawed, human characters that I create. This pairing is a perfect read for me. Thank you for the insight, Nathan. Oh, I’m also a type 4.

ESTP 8w7 here and your description of my archetype was perfect. I also like to think of STPs as hunters and SFPs as warriors- both being very present and reactive with SE, the precision of TI lending itself to tracking, and FI having the courage of one's convictions in battle.

I hate when INFPs are stereotyped as weaklings. No we're not magical creatures from the wilderness. And yes we are capable of being highly argumentative and angry people. Have you never met an INFP enneagram 4? Or one with a developed Te?

ENFP 7w8, I find myself pretty close to the innocent archetype. I found explorer to be more physically explorative while creator is way too ambitious😅 I'm more idealistic, naive, trusting, and lightheartedly creative, much like the fool in the tarot deck

Every day after school, my sister and I would spend a couple hours laying on the living room floor, creating art. She’s an ISFP and I’m an INFJ. That was back in the 80s and very early 90s. I didn’t remain an artist into adulthood but I used it to creatively raise my 4, now grown, kiddos. My sister remained a successful artist and has sold a *LOT* of her amazing art displayed over a multitude of mediums, throughout her adult life. I personally, have two of her pieces on my own flesh. A daisy on my back and an elaborate mermaid on my left thigh. My mermaid still needs some more shading and colour. Plus, my sister wants to add some colour to my daisy. One of the coolest money making art mediums she used to create on, was large Bovine and Cervidae skulls. Absolutely brilliant! Her creations were sooo impactful, but the work she had to put in, to create those pieces, was far too gruelling. Turns out that, boiling, stripping and conditioning skulls is actually a seriously big process, lol.

I'm ISTP, precisely 5w6 I always tell my other friends they should challenge their abusive parents, their bullies or abusive coworkers Ironically, i wouldn't rebel against a corrupt government system, i am in one and there's no point in that, it's just asking to die :/ Yet, the best i do about it is not getting involved into it too much... Also looking how to fly to another country

I am INFJ and eneagram type 1. I identify with the archetype of artist but I have spent most of my almost 60 years of life as a caregiver. It should be noted that when under stress type 1 goes to unhealthy side of type 4, and I have weathered several episodes of major depression, possibly in part due to my prioritizing caregiving over artistic expression.

It's interesting. I've been crawling towards a revelation regarding the gap between introversion and extroversion, as expressed in the types. i think its interesting that my healing of codependency has been helped by more isolation (duh) and self-reflection (double duh) and resulted in a lot more writing, ie: Creativity. In your breakdown, INFJ. So I'm down with this grouping, as an ENFJ who cares _way_ too much about what people think.

I’m a ISFP 4w5 so this was spot on! I will say in a test I’ve gotten the Explorer archetype before which I align with, because being creative isn’t really my job but I do study writing and enjoy doing that, watching and learning about films, and drawing as hobbies!

I’m INFP 9. Pretty much spot on.

According to Fauvre, I'm a 5-2-8 tritype, and according to my research I'm an INTJ, which fits with the 5 although there doesn't seem to be much advice for the five in the enneagram territory and the weakness and withdrawals of the five don't seem accurate to my experience while those of the two I think fit a bit better, though I may be a less extreme two than what one generally thinks of; the conundrum is on stand-by & I identify as a 2-5-8; but the title of the tri-type no matter how you mix it is "the Strategist" which is a brilliant fit to the INTJ personality regardless. I think the Sage fits brilliantly too.

Indeed, my INTP friend and myself (INTJ) are never short of interesting information to share...although, as much as I admire her thorough thought on most topics, her unbiased presentation of some off-the-wall nonsense leaves me quite aghast at times. (Last one was me going into all the reasons why I didn't think water was alive 🤣)

I'm an ENFP 4! And, this makes so much sense hehe. I am very creative, always imagining ways of creating so I can bring my emotions into the world. And I also relate to the explorer! I show up, go on adventures with a person and then leave for a while. Although, I don't have 7 in my tritype so I don't explore as much as a typical ENFP. I am much more likely to be playing video games or doing art at home. But I feel as though the internet allows me to explore and go on adventures, too!

Thank you for your work in this field. I am an Enneagram 4, self-pres instinct, INFP. I am wondering about INFJs leaning into mysticism? Dr. Caroline Myss is an example of this. Dr. Myss has stated that she is an INFJ, Enneagram 1 and possesses the Mystic Archetype amongst others. Dr. C. G. Jung might have been an INFJ and he appeared to be an Enneagram 9. Dr. Jung’s behaviours seemed to demonstrate the possibility of the Mystic Archetype as being a part of his repertoire.

ENTJ woman, enneagram 8w9 here. I guess it was difficult to fit the MBTI types into the Jungian ones, but I would've had ENTJs side-by-side w/ ESTJs under, "The ruler". Also, I watched an interesting vid on ENTJs and enneagram. Tldr; Most ENTJs test as 3 or 8. 3s are the more stereotypical, "I want to be seen in a position of power and be lauded by the people". They're more concerned w/ prestige. 8s tend to want control over themselves and their environment, and value autonomy. There's less emphasis on clout/prestige/public perception. I liked this differentiation.

I’m an INFJ 6w5. I used to be quite artistic when I was younger (I’m 32 now), drawing, writing my own stories and songs. I stopped doing those things in college, you know when studying became harder and more time-consuming. I do miss drawing though, bc I didn’t just draw at home or in notebooks when I was out and about, I drew even on the desks at school, leaving “my art” for the next student. And I still have that dream of writing my own novel one day. A semi-memoir, that is - half my life, half imagination (or wishful thinking). So the Creator archetype fits, I guess? Even though I’m not so artistic anymore.

It’s so interesting how my INTP friend rarely relates to videos that describe INTP. He’s not fussed about knowledge. The INFJ one was spot on for me. Creative but prone to overworking.

I'm INFP, when i was young i was very much like your description, but not so much as an older adult. I thought i was a 4 type, the artist, or maker, as i've been an artist of some sort most of my life, but an expert told me that i'm a 9! So that fits with what you say. But i'm not sure? The expert was a woman running a workshop on the E..types??

INTP 5w4 I seem to be responding to the American financial and political culture in contradiction to predicted growing strength of Fe as I get older. I want to withdraw to favorite subjects for more study while simultaneously wishing for better intimacy.

While you've explain many interesting points here, I think that enneagram has a bigger impact on those Jungian archetypes, because for example INFJ E5 will be the Sage, INFP E4 will be the Artist, XSXP types E7 will be Explorers, ENTP E8 will be the Rebel etc. And that's only from most popular combinations, when we get some unusual combination, for example INTP E2 will be the Caregiver with very well developed inferior function, or something like that... 😄

There definitely is such a thing as too much information. Too much information can cloud the signal in the noise.

I found it quite interesting that infj and isfp were paired together. I was typed as infj but couldn't fully see myself in that description. So I one day thought maybe I am a sensor and looked into isfp after deciding isfj is not my bag. So the two types do have things in common which I find interesting. However I am a type 9 which is relatively comon for isfp.

I think this could help to break the sage confusion here. The sage concept the way i see it is being looked at face value here. Like the interpretation seems to be if you spend your time gathering knowledge and understanding you identify as the sage. However, doing that is just half of what the sage archetype really is. A sage gathers the knowledge with a purpose of guiding others to better paths (example like dumbledore does with harry potter). Not just for collecting the knowledge for the sake of it. With that being said, a sage archetype is far more close to the INFJ than INTP or INTJ. The INTJ fits a lot more in the magician where the archetype use the knowledge to leave a mark in the world. Knowledge becomes a tool for achievement. INTP in my understanding are one of the types that fit and more than one archetype (being the sage the most close to the type) but not in complete way like the INFJ and INTJ do. INTP search for knowledge and truth but only for subjective curiosity not for using that information to help other human beings. Note: Another thing that influence how a type will fit that seems very relevant is your enneagram type. For example a INFJ type 2 will feel less connected to the sage archetype and more close to the caregiver because as a 2 he develop Fe a lot more than Ti. On contrary, a INFJ enneagram 5 will feel the true connection to the sage archetype because he stays more in the Ni Ti land but even then the goal in terms of personal growth is to guide others towards better decisions with his wisdom. Hope it helps

I'm an INFP 4w5, I resonate most with the innocent and the everyman archetypes. With the innocent I feel I'm a tad too melancholy and with the everyman I still have a desire to be "different" or "stand out" in a way, yet I also just want to not be perceived at all sometimes.

Nathan, what do you think Jung would think about MBTI typology? Would he embrace it or say that it is an oversimplification/degradation of his ideas?

I'm an ENTP type 5w4 so I heavily relate with The Rebel, The Explorer, The Jester, and aspects The Sage I guess I'm just that versatile.

INFP, 4w5, creator, but perhaps I misunderstand myself. The innocent rings a bell, though I do not believe I am naive anymore, having lived a lot of years and seen much human trouble. Perhaps the innocence now expresses itself as the will to see everyone as a true child of God no matter what they have done or will do. Their eternal spirits may need to be reformed and refined in purgatorial fires, but I believe in the ultimate goodness of everyone and everything.

This comment is more like a little description of myself so then you guys can write some reply saying something 😅 and also my native language isn't English so....yeah. I'm an INFJ-A 1w9. And I don't know... being an INFJ is weird and +1w9 is even more. I know that the common 16 personality test is not a complete info resource when it comes to know about yourself better compared to the Cognitive functions theory, but hey it's a start point. I took the test recently and I got INFJ-A 78% I 54% N 51% F 64% J And I can relate much more to INTP and INTJs 'title' than the ISFP and INFJ.
