I really hope you guys all enjoy this one! I worked really hard putting it together over 7+ days, trying to show you some of the scenery, some of the experience of being there and being completely honest trying to stitch together an interesting story from a somewhat dispersed selection of footage, but I think it worked quite well...?! "How long does it usually take to go from start to finish on the editing?" somebody recently asked me. On this film it was: It depends on the amount of footage - this one being slightly longer took 7 days working 7-9 hours a day... In this case: - 2 days to review all of the footage, produce a very rough cut of useful/interesting clips. - 1 day to mull over options, script out a rough storyline, produce a trimmed down rough cut. - 2 day to finish story, record voice overs (I struggle with this, working to improve them) and edit them. - 1 day to edit things into a coherent cut and finesse. - 1 day to colour correction 1 day of audio work, setting levels, edit out wind etc Sometimes the Thumbnail can take a day as well!

Hallo ! Moro! Thanks again for a serene and beautiful ride ! Very relaxing and the colors are fantastic! The leopard staring at is in the passenger seat is unnerving..kidding of course! Amazing fortitude on your part for the solitude and quiet! Saddle up!

I actually enjoy the calm reserve you put in your video diary. No booming, obnoxious music or quick clickbait dramatic clips of the vehicle mired axle deep or close to tip over. Adventure travel isn't always about drama.. Enjoy the day friend.

Thank you very much for your comment Jeffrey. I do my best to convey what the experience of being there was for me, assuming some people will connect with aspects of it. If your well prepared and sensible then you shouldn't have too much drama barring the odd mistake like in #5 or the odd piece of just plain bad luck when in Namibia... In the rest of Africa things can be much more like playing roulette. I hope you keep enjoying the channel! Kind regards, Darrin

Top tier again mate, the green grass in that environment is outstanding and those wide open spaces are inspiring. I understand the need to just let the landscape speak for itself, but I really enjoy hearing your thoughts in the episodes. For me the best thing about your presentations are that they are not pretentious or fake, like so many other travel channels on RU-vid. Cheers again.

Thank you for your nice video. Although I appreciate every single subscriber, I'm amazed at how the number of your subscribers has skyrocketed, even though you haven't uploaded a video for a few months. Cheers!

Marienfluss looks like the green jewel of the north - just lovely and so scenic. You wove some very entertaining bits into your video aswell, making it not just interesting but very enjoyable to watch. Thanks for a good one as usual. By the way, the Landy definitely do not look 24 years old - still 'the best 4x4xfar'. Enjoy and go slow.

Also here in Texas dragonflies are called the “Devils Toothpick”! Interestingly cute huh?

Passenger PoV is a good option. One thing I’d like to know is the diesel situation, like what’s the L/100 like and how does that impact the route planning?

Thanks mate! My Landy has a 200tdi engine from 1991. I'm usually loaded at between 2600-2900kg and not super aerodynamic 😆 I consistently get 10L per 100km. Thats on all kinds of roads, doing 500km on good asphalt or bumping around up here in 2nd and 3rd gears. (Top speed on a main road is about 90kmph). I keep a 20L jerry can full and assume that will always get me 160-200km, so worse case is I run out, and have that range to get to a fuel station. Generally Southern Africa is fairly easy for this - when you head into the Sahara for example then you need much more precise planning. I have the following tanks: Original 80L Rear wing tank 30L Original 90 LR tank under drivers seat 60L Capacity for 4 * 20L Jerry cans Max fuel range = 250L / 2,500km
@Daniel0x01

That’s an impressive range in total. Nice

@@Daniel0x01If your going in between countries with big differences in diesel prices, the extra tanks pay for themselves after a while 😃

I prefer your “real sense of long term travel” approach to your videos, thank you. Good taste in music, too. Which Motorhead song clip did you use? Couldn’t quite place it
@roamingyak
@roamingyak 6 месяцев назад
Oh, thank you very much, thats nice to hear! 😃 Sadly I can't actually use Motorhead songs due to copyright issues - so used a symbolic riff from a song I can use from the music service I subscribe to avoid copyright issues (all unsigned bands etc). I would love to be able to use 'We are the road crew" as a theme song for the Landy and I 😉🤣 Thanks alaos. for being kind enough to leave a message. much appreciated!
