Whats the best way to notch out purlins where they meet and saddle the hip at each hip end. If hip rafter to small (hypothetically) to just butt in. Thanks.

Hi Mate, the best way is to not notch it at all rather place another piece of the Hip material below the hip where the Purlin will join and then just butt the Purlin into that with the Face and Edge bevel Purlin.

Hi. What is the difference between an underpurlin and an intermediate beam in the as1684 span tables?
@Buildsum

Not a lot really, an intermediate beam is not strutted, so needs to be a deeper beam than a Purlin but otherwise they do the same job.

Hi, does anyone know when the requirement for metal strap anchor to rafters/underpurlins became compulsory for Perth in N1?

Hi Dino, i'm not sure about Perth but we have had to do it here in Sydney for a while but we are in a up to N3 wind area.

Where did you get your tables from?
@Buildsum
@Buildsum 6 лет назад
Hi Bronte, The tables are from AS 1684.2 for MGP10 timber. You can purchase the Standard from SAI Global infostore.saiglobal.com/en-au/Standards/AS-1684-2-2010-1407489/ The tables are supplements to the Standard.

Hi Roger Typical Roof Mass is outlined in Appendix A Table A1.1 of AS1684.2 and should be similar in AS1684.4
