Week in my life as a Doctor over the Thanksgiving holiday! Join me again for yet another video in which I take you around the hospital on my 7 days straight of call...Yep, that's 168 hours straight on call.
This week was a little different because the department was not open on Thanksgiving day and the day after. Just because we weren't open, does not mean we did not go into the hospital to do cases! I definitely got called in for some stuff, which you'll see, but it honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!
Hope you all enjoy

@@DrAdamHotchkiss well i watch hunting and fishing videos on RU-vid and the guy always used to show the cleaning (like cutting the animal open and breaking it down into pieces) and he ended up just having to do those cleaning videos as separate videos because he said RU-vid will demonitize the videos or take them down because of the blood sometimes, even if only a little bit of blood showed. How do you deal with on-call anxiety? I’m an MRI Technologist and it always kills me not knowing when my phone will ring. Also if I do get called in the middle of the night I always feel like a zombie the next day from lack of sleep. Also, you never know what kind of patient or situation you’re getting into when you get called in, some cases easier than others. And our radiologists don’t back us up if the ER or floor call us in for what really isn’t an emergency.Thoughts or suggestions?
@fiddlegirl79
@fiddlegirl79 3 года назад
I enjoy the DITL vids. I just finished up chemo for early stage ovarian cancer a month ago. Before that I had a couple MRIs and CT stand and X-rays for various things. During the time I noticed the endometriomas, I had to have the MRIs to check on how they were (was trying a couple hormones) and then had a CT scan in the ER in June (had one scheduled before then, but had to go to the ER for abdominal pain), I researched what to expect during those scans and became interested in it. I think maybe in a couple years (I want to make sure my health is still good) to go back to college for X-ray tech. I’m in my early 40’s so I don’t want to do med school. Maybe eventually get CT certified too...who knows? ☺️

@@DrAdamHotchkiss I’m doing really well. I think my body took the chemo pretty well. Not much nausea during treatments, no neuropathy (took my vitamin b6 every day). Had low energy for a week after my infusions, but I gained it back afterwards (infusions were every 3 weeks).

How do you manage to stay on top of sleep? Like, you don't have a call room to nap and then you get called multiple times throughout the night when you're actually sleeping which means you might get 2-3 hours of solid sleep... how do you do this for 7 days on call let alone a regular non-call shift? Which residencies are able to use a call room? If I don't get my sleep then I will probably feel sick to my stomach and fall asleep at a random time and I'm scared I won't be mentally alert for my future patients.

@Angels-3xist 3 года назад
One thing the opening statement of this video highlights is ‘Tell. Don’t show.’, which is a good rule for this area and if you are going to show, tell before you do that way people can choose to opt in or out. I mean, with doctors, you know what you’re getting into, but it’s sort of like if you were going into a class where you have to study, lets say a dead body and they say, “today we’re going to look at a dead body” or give you some form of indicator as opposed to throwing a corpse at you . You might expect the latter once you were a doctor, but by then you’ve had alot of notice. Point is, that pretty gross, but not in an offensive way or a way you were unprepared for given the type of channel you’re watching and stuff like that is informative and necessary par for the course. This guy though... so over worked, major holiday work vibes, but what a warrior. Hang in there. Good advice, good information and good outlook.
