Atlantic Rail's Class 16DA No. 879 was taken on a test trip from Monument Station (Cape Town) to Stellebosch on 6 April 2014. The locomotive hauled a Metrorail Class 10M3 8 coach EMU set.
Damn Matt! That is some fine, fine footage you have procured my friend!! Just sublime! Thanks for going out and taking this rare video and sharing it with us - must have been something magical to see it!
As much as I hope 3450 runs again some day, I don't think it is a practical proposition for AR, at least not the way things are at the moment. Smaller locos suit our operations much better. If we were able to run to somewhere like Worcester, and had lots of coaches then maybe it would become practical. But with our rake of five coaches and the light rails that we run on, the 24 Class (or a loco of similar size) is the ideal locomotive for us.
