I want to build a 16x40 shed to home, but it's the roof trusses I'm struggling with. Your trusses seem simple but yet strong. Was wondering if you could help with that? Could you show the dimensions for me? What was your pitch? Ours is a minimum of 3/12. I've seen several videos on how to do it, but they seem to over compilacte it with construction terms. I've done a lean 2 roof just fine. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

How many inches was the blocks off the ground ?looking to have mine the same height to run plumbing
@tinyshedlife
@tinyshedlife 3 года назад
On the big shed, at the shortest side, we are sloped, we have 3 - 8 inch cinderblocks. When we first put the small shed out we didn’t plan on living out here but we wanted off the ground away from water. Man, was it hard getting plumbing under there! We definitely made up for that mistake when the bigger shed was built. Now it doubles as storage also. We do plan on adding more rows of cinder blocks, spacing them every 4 feet. Since this video we’ve rotated the blocks and added a larger pad under the cinder blocks. Good luck with your shed and thanks for watching!

@michaelott310
@michaelott310 5 лет назад
Impressive. But not sure why you used cinder blocks for a foundation. It seems a little shaky.. Literally. Is it in the south? I think 6X6 pressure treated posts would be easier to get level. Just snap a level line and trim it with a cicular saw. Also it seems like you would need some strapping going across the trusses to support the metal roof panels.
@tinyshedlife
@tinyshedlife 5 лет назад
The cinder blocks are pretty traditional down here with trailer homes (South Central Texas). There are 32 points of contact so there isn't a wobble, but we will need to level every so often. It's really not too high, about 2 feet off the ground, which we didn't do in the small shed (used only 1 cinder block) and it was nearly impossible getting the plumbing run there, so having it higher makes working on things easier. I'm interested in your strapping comment, can you explain more? We do plan to anchor the buildings.
@michaelott310
@michaelott310 5 лет назад
I can understand the height for plumbing. But the blocks seem like they're just stacked on each other and not joined together. My opinion is that if you don't have to worry about a frost heave, You can just attach 6X6 posts to a solid concrete block with a post base bracket. Snap or run a laser level line and cut them all the same height. Another option is to dig and pour concrete piers and run 2X12 joists to span the 16 feet. maybe about 10 holes 2 ft deep. I'm up in New England. so we have to go down at least 4 ft. Of course that's assuming you're not in hard clay or rocky soil.. But I want to emphasize that I think its a very nice shed and it appears that if it can be done in 2 or 3 days with less people, that's great.
@michaelott310
@michaelott310 5 лет назад
In regards to strapping, I'm referring to strips of wood that attach to the top of the trusses. They're usually 1X4 lumber that spans horizontally across the trusses to support the metal roof panels. But I'm guessing you might not need it in the south. No snow load to worry about.

I would have used vapor barrier before applying the siding.
@FedericoDecara
@FedericoDecara 4 года назад
Cheri Monteith a thing I have noticed that is different is that in Denmark, we put the vapor barrier on the hot side, to reduce condensation in the wall. Having it on the cold side in our climate would increase the risk of rot.
@tinyshedlife
@tinyshedlife 4 года назад
Honestly if we could redo it, keep in mind, we are/were first timers, we’d use zip board on everything and so the build ourselves! But we’ve learned so much this year. As a first timer this was a great start.
@tinyshedlife
@tinyshedlife 4 года назад
That’s really interesting. Our biggest struggle is worrying about condensation. There is so much info and opinions out there. What kind of insulation do you use in your area?
@FedericoDecara
@FedericoDecara 4 года назад
Tiny Shed Life in Denmark “stonewoll” is the most used in light walls, either in bats or rolls, in double brick walls stonewoll is blown in, but paperbased (specially treated) insulation is now also being blown in, as it apparently have a higher insulation value, and is also somewhat cheap. We have not yet embraced tiny houses, unfortunately, the legislation is not really with us.

Federico Decara okay cool. Maybe one day tiny living will come around. It’s not too popular here either, most people want more and more, but it’s working great for us!

No we didn’t. It’s not down here, as far as I know. We did end up rotating the blocks and adding a larger concrete pad under each. This winter, when it’s cooler, we are planning to add more rows.

I’m not sure of the materials but if you go to a portable building company they should be able to sell you just the materials. We bought ours through a place like that and it included them building it onsite. It was about $17k.
