I wanted to thank Jarrod for some time so here it goes. I was looking for gaming laptop and I knew I could do it only once. So, like most uninformed I bought latest and greatest I could afford, MSI Raider GE76 12UHS-252. 4300 USD laptop. CPU Tem was hitting 100 C in 25 C room with Laptop cooling pad. It scared the **it out of me. GPU although great but turned out to be un-necessary (Thanks to Jarrod's test that I could not have possibly ran myself) I returned it and bought Raider GE77HX 12UHS-004 for 2600 USD. Same FPS in games without temp problems. All I am saying is listen to this guy before buying laptop it will save you time and money. Thankyou Jarrod. Have a great day everyone.

I learned two things from this video: (1) gaming a CPU/GPU intensive game on a modern laptop will give you about 100 minutes on battery, and (2) @15:11 vs a few minutes earlier, doing CPU/GPU intensive activities (like the Cinebench R23 test) will be about 15% faster on mains, plugged in, versus a battery. New information for me, as we just bought a new Lenovo non-gaming laptop.

About the Caps Lock and Linux.. The KDE Plasma desktop environment does actually have an indicator in the system icon tray showing if you have Caps Lock(and/or Num Lock, I think) on. @Rockport1911
@Rockport1911 Год назад
XMG really did a great leap forward against noisy high- powered laptops. But i hope they keep going and iron out some bugs: - what concerns me most is that the water- couple doesnt seal on the laptop- side. If you pull it off the water inside the heat- pipe will just flow out and possibly damage components inside. I guess waterdamage isnt included in a warranty. Its likely done like that to fight corrosion or pressure build- up when the water cooler isnt used but it could be better - second I think that the integrated waterpipe on top of the the existing heatpipes is great, but it could be bigger and longer to collect more heat, for having such a system the results could be better - the radiator and pump could be bigger and quieter I know its hard to manuafturer something that works for everybody. I did a DIY watercooler on my MSI GS67 HX that gets rid of the things I wrote above. Now never goes over 60C and the fans only come on under hardest load. In stock form that laptop idles at 50C and puts the annoying fans on with light loads. It works great but its not light or pretty, but its nice having a silent laptop an the desk and a watercooler humming away underneath.
@Okkebeltman
@Okkebeltman Год назад
so I have the Neo 15 with the watercooler. Not sure if that imporves or lowers the quality of my response. 1 this is less of an issue than at first might appear. I usually just dump the little water that remains out (I use distilled water to cool). The main issue I have with this is that you need to refill the reservoir every now and then. I get like 20+ disconnections before having to refill, so for me disconnecting once every 2 days) that means about once every 6 weeks I need to refill the reservoir. Not that big of a deal. If you connect and isconnect like once or twice a day, then you would have to refill once a week, more of an issue. 2. The short loop. This is even less of an issue. I have the i7-12700 and the 3080ti, and when playing games maxed out the temps rarely go above 64 degrees. That is low enough to have no throttling, and to give the components a longer lifespan. Lowering the temps even more might be nice, but doesnt really add much. 3. Radiater and pump bigger. Sort of similar to the short loop, it works like this, with no throttling and no superhigh temps. Why change that even more? I do have some issues of my own. Personally id prefer a quieter fan and quieter pump. I would be willing to pay more for a version which is compeltely whisper quiet. I udnerstand the budgetlimits to keep something like this at the price they sell it for now, but id be willing to pay a premium for that, and hope they upgrade that in the future.

I feel like no usb-charging is no-go, as even my old one I am using right now had it, and It saved me once or twice already to charge it from phone charger, at pathetic speeds, but still 30W was enough so in ~3h had full battery and I could use it. Not something you use everyday, but if you fly with laptop, a single charger for both phone and laptop is very nice. It also makes spotless desks, when you can run single cable of the desk for everything, sort it all to monitors, power bricks, network etc. out of sight. I find that liquid cooler results a bit underwhelming. I saw thermal imaging, those pipes do something, but I would expect much more. IMHO that liquid cooler should focus on GPU, even if CPU would have all that air thermal mass & fans for itself, it should be enough to cool it.

I just got the Eluktronics. Coming from a 1070 8GB and an 8th gen i7 to a 3080ti and a 13th gen i9...this computer is crazy fast. I did some Resolve renders with fusion comps and this was just spitting them out. The water cooling looks pretty cool but the app is not working and tech support takes the weekends off (fair enough...they replied very fast last time I emailed.) It's not even getting warm with just the air cooling although larger renders will definitely benefit from the water. Not incredibly crazy about the quality of the water pump nor the lack of a 2nd usb-c (yes, in 2023). There are still just a couple of these on clearance on Amazon so if you're in the market and don't have to have a 40 series, you could do much worse. UPDATE: I just got a 2nd nvme to upgrade. Removing a “star” because Eluktronics torqued the screws so tight that I tore the heck out of the bottom cover and had to drill a screw out. Still can’t get the cover off…maybe a couple hidden screws? Why would they not hand tighten these?

6:12 This is what killed my excitement for this laptop real quick. If I was to use this as a Desktop Replacement and I can't hook up my thunderbolt 4 dock to my two external monitors and use the internal Nvidia GPU then it's a no go. If this ever got changed in a future model I'd probably have no reason not to try this laptop out. I was told that this was a limitation on intels 12th gen cpu though so unfortunately it might have be a refresh before that happens. So close. . .
@xmg_gg
@xmg_gg Год назад
The chassis with AMD Ryzen 6000 has the USB-C directly connected to NVIDIA GPU. Only one single DisplayPort 1.4 stream over that port, but it can be split further for multiple monitors with a MST-capable dock. By the way, even if you take Intel 12th Gen with a Thunderbolt dock on iGPU, you can still *use* the NVIDIA GPU on your two monitors via MSHybrid. They would perform exactly like the internal screen with NVIDIA Optimus (not Advanced Optimus). One advantage of having external monitors on iGPU is much lower power consumption in idle and web/office use. The dGPU can sleep while not gaming. // Tom

@@xmg_gg Well I'm glad you took the time to explain that to me. Thank you. I could probably make it work with that cleared up. You'd get much better performance from a desktop for less money, probably for the cost of these you could get a desktop that would smoke them and a laptop for travel. Also, in 6 months, next gen 4070/7700m should be 3080ti level of performance or better (I don't expect more than a 1 tier improvement for next gen) probably for more money than 3070/6700m but not ridiculous pricing like 3080ti laptops currently.

Hey, Im contemplating about buying either Katana GF76 with 17.3 inch display (i7-11800h/RTX 3060 70-85W) or Nitro 5 with same config but 90-95W 3060, both for around same price. Is the display of GF76 similar to the one in this video (im mostly interested in response time)? I know Nitro's display isnt good and response time is bad as well. And overall which one would be a better option?

Both kinda similar to each other bro. But neither are known for good display, far cry from Titan, Legion, or other mid to high choice reviewed in this channel. E.g. neither have 100 srgb. (I think one of Katana's last year had it, but not the 17" one) But if you're on competitive side, MSi usually has that response time. Katana usually has that slow SSD; meanwhile Nitro has worse ram,rendering the tdp irrelevant. MSi has hinge problem; meanwhile Acer just..well they fell apart easily, even the Helios one. So yeah, can't say much for budget choice. I'd say Katana since I personally know my friends got MSi from years ago(2019).

@@amruzaky4939 Im planning to replace the stock ram with my own sticks so thats not the problem for me in case of Acer but I just have a impression that both of them are kinda wack in 1 aspect or another. @amruzaky4939 Год назад
@@META313. well, go for Katana since you're after response time. But since you mentioned the price range, alternatively you could get 1660ti Legion already equipped with 16 GB ram. There are 2060 Legion around that price too (starting at 980 USD) but with only 512 GB ROM instead of 1.5 TB. But since the last year's GPU fiasco, I doubt they still have Legion in stock, not even the used ones. So, there is also HP Omen 15 with 2060 ones at that range, but HP service is kinda hit or miss post-2021. I don't know about ASUS, everyone used to talk about ROG back then, but I rarely heard about them these days. I don't recommend TUF since their intel machine overheats easily, but they did have good response time tho.

6:27 Given that several brands have overcome that, like Razer & Dell, I'd say that's pretty pathetic to have no displayport or USB-C display out directly to the dGPU. Tongfang should have either added another USB-C port without Thunderbolt or made it work like Dell or Razer. And the AMD model seems to be an afterthought, I mean, if Asus can do liquid metal on AMD Ryzen CPUs since 2021, then I don't think there's much of an excuse anymore. Not to mention no type-c charging for a premium laptop isn't a good look in 2022. This laptop sadly feels like a prototype, which is a shame because it could have been better if they had fixed those issues...

Well, love the concept of a 17.3 to 18.4 inch desktop replacement laptop with water cooling, but this chassis is downright horrible and misses the mark. The chassis lacks too many ports to be a desktop replacement, which is the target audience of 17.3 inch and up. You need 3 to 4 USB A, 2 USB-C, full size HDMI, ethernet. I plug 1 mouse, 1 keyboard, 1 DAC/AMP on USB-A ports, then on the two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, 1 or 2 external storage units, and use an USB-A to USB-C connector for my Xbox Controller. Then the HDMI port to connect to a 42 inch OLED TV and wired ethernet for FPS multiplayer gaming to warrant lowest latency and most stable connexion. And I have an SD Card reader there, that I rarely use. This new 17.3 inch chassis NEO/Mech 17 just does not cut it, the motherboard is comically small and leaves so much room unused for ports. And I plug all this on a CLEVO PB71RF-G chassis from 2019, it's been 3 years and I have not seen a laptop offer as many ports! 3 USB -A, 1 USB-C with display port, 1 Thunderbolt 3, separate audio in and mic in, ethernet port, Full size HDMI 2.0b, mini Display port 1.4 and an SD card reader! And I fill it all up as a desktop replacement, I have to choose between my controller or a second external storage unit!

dB values only tell half the story. Acoustic profile differs from system to system, with some models (such as NEO 17) "sounding" more quiter than what you read on the dB meter. I will highlight your comment to Jarrod to ask him if he keeps his microphone gain in sync between reviews. // Tom

The problem is those are recorded with a camera that sits on the mic. The on camera talking has a mic positioned above me, while voice overs have yet another mic that I stand in front of, so it is difficult to get it all the same. @NoName-zf6nr
@NoName-zf6nr Год назад
@@JarrodsTech For reference, let me first express that I very much like the overall quality of your reviews and usually your noise samples are also very helpful. dB values in themselves are meaningful to some extent but noise samples can greatly improve one's decision-making in principle if done right. This is so because different noises at the same dB can be less or more pleasant. How to get them right? I think it is necessary for a reviewer to verify his video draft subjectively as to whether the volume of his voice versus the volume of the noise samples are calibrated to reflect reality. In your other reviews, I have had the impression that you have done it right. Just in this video, I am not convinved at all about the relative volume of the noise samples. --robert jasiek

@NoName-zf6nr Год назад
@@xmg_gg dB values, subjective perception of acoustic profiles in noise samples and the variety of settings in fan modes all matter. If the significantly lower volume in these noise samples should not be too misleading, I would agree that the kind of Neo 17 noise seems to be more pleasant than of other notebooks at same dB values. It seems to be like smooth wind. This can be an acceptable kind of noise provided its volume does not become too large. Every fan with an acceptable kind of noise becomes unpleasant nevertheless if only the noise becomes loud enough. Thank you for trying to help the reviewer with synchronisation of noise volumes! --robert jasiek
