This video features two clips; GA-400 South to I-85 North to I-285 and US-78 (Stone Mountain Freeway) eastbound in its entirety. Music and equipment FAQ's are in the closing credits.
Mike Hunt just fyi hardees and Carl's jr. are the same thing but Carl's jr. is west coast on the other hand hardees is east coast. that is all i am telling you.
Very familiar territory here, having lived in Gwinnett County a good chunk of my life in two stints separated by about fifteen years in California. Spent many weekends at Stone Mountain with my family when I was a kid. And a wonderful tribute to Greg Allman. R.I.P.
Awesome video, having done 2 back to back west coast trips, and 3 in 4 years, as much as i enjoy watching your videos of them, i think it makes sense money and time wise to stay closer to home this time for your 2017 trip, i was figuring you might check out FLA this year and sure enough you are, i cant wait for your videos of FLA
Having been to Atlanta several times, and having lived in Ohio Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin, for most of my life I'm still rather stunned to see buildings above the expressways and long stretches of parks, and parking lots over them as well. Here in snow country, they'd be leaking in a few years, and falling in 10 even with constant clearing.
Nice going, my friend. As a matter of fact, I'm planning to go to Atlanta next weekend. Looking forward to go down there to enjoy myself and the others.
I can't wait for your new videos . I was thinking in March of 2017 that Jim will Go to Florida and I was right . So hopefully that you will go to : Tampa , St. Petersburg , Florida I-75 , Miami , Key west , Orlando , Jacksonville , I-95 Florida , Savannah , Charleston , Columbia , Augusta and more .
Not going to Orlando but will get what I can from the other places listed. Also, there is no point filming I-75 and I-95 outside of urban areas, Zzzzzzz.
Excellent looking video and a great ride. Thanx for the Allman Bros. I miss them already. Great song selections. One Way Out recorded live from one of the greatest music venues of all time, the Fillmore East run by the late, great Bill Graham, Nice guy, got to meet him back in the early 80's. Eat A Peach, Eat The Peach. Will always remember Brothers Duane & Greg and Butch Trucks & Berry Oakley & Allen Woody. Thanx for posting this.
Thank you, I don't usually like to use live recordings but "One Way Out" is one of the better one's sound depth and quality wise, you don't feel like you are losing anything with it.
Nice tribute with the Allman Brothers at the end- good way to respect his memory- great ride and looking forward to the future videos! Nice ride- good soundtrack! Always enjoy your videos!
Hey Freewayjim. Love all of your videos. Especially since I was born and raised in ATL myself! Im here in NOLA now. How about doing more videos here!!?!
Ahh Atlanta, asphalt jungle in the pines. Haha, I love it though. Also great selection of music, perhaps you could fit Allman Bros. -Jessica in some video in the future? Great work!
Great video as always. Looking forward to the US-1 video in the Keys. Have you ever considered doing a video on I-70 through southeastern Utah? It's extremely desolate but the landscape is one-of-a-kind and gorgeous
Thanks, I've driven I-70 as far west as Salinas Utah, yeah it's a great drive and well worth filming, you have top keep in mind that unless I'm alone someone else does the filming and I have to be fair to them, can't filming everything....unless I go solo.
Alright! I've been awake all night, editing a video for one of my other channels, and the payoff for the sleepless night is that I get to watch a brand new FWJ video moments after it posts! My lucky day. 😀 R.I.P. Greg, you are sorely missed.
Going through Atlanta's Freeway was amazing! Bet you had to get to work by going through it every day? And I can't wait to see you go down Florida's highway there's alot great sites down in Florida.
Thanks a lot for the trip in Atlanta Area. Why sometimes (eg 03:35) the road look like two contrasting colors? Are these two types of materials? Thanks and greetings
I don't know why I love even the coastal, more tropical (palmetto-filled) states like Florida and South Carolina so much, but I cannot tell you how excited I am for this season (all of the seasons have been very exciting to me, however). I hope you have a great trip, Jim! If I have any suggestions for filming rural interstates on your trip, it might be I-75 in south Georgia because of the newly completed construction. I like how the pavement offers a nice variety, as it intermittently switches from asphalt to concrete and back and such. There are also a lot of new overpasses out of the construction, I think. I'd say I-75 in south GA offers a break from all of the trees, as it offers, for much of it, a lot of open farmland and fields. Just a thought, but whatever you film, Jim, I am unbelieveably excited to see. I know there will probably be a lot of interesting bridges too, and I am looking forward to seeing US 1 in the Florida Keys. :)
Oh, and just yesterday, I got back from a trip with my family to Charleston, SC, and I filmed a lot of roads and bridges on that trip. So I am excited to see what you will have filmed.
Great day and great video! Would love to have seen the diverging diamond interchange at Ashford Dunwoody as part of this tour, but not complaining. What I'd really like to ask is that you give serious consideration to including the Turnpike/439 super-interchange just west of Orlando as part of your Florida tour. Turnpike to I-4 to Tampa, or Turnpike to the 429 to I-4 to Tampa. The beautiful rolling hill country along the Turnpike is changing fast, and it ought to be chronicled in video.
We have three diverging Diamonds in Metro Atlanta, none are really worth a video as I don't think it would translate that well, they are all in really tight soaces. Not going near Orlando on this trip.
Bittersweet video. The Allman's were so much a part of the soundtrack of my teen and college years and more importantly so much of a part of Americana in the '70's. I think Southerners would be surprised to know how popular southern rock was on Long Island back then. People then wore the uniform long hair, bandanna, Confederate flag decals etc. Don't fret it was pretty much just a music fan thing back then. Who fans wore Britsh Flag stuff. Looking forward to the Florida trip. When my grandparents were alive back in the 70's and 80's I spent a lot of vacations in the Gold Coast area. Looking forward to seeing what if anything has changed.
Freewayjim oh god i didn't expect that, so sad. At the beggining I thought that it was like a monument or something related with the mountain that marks at the freeway. I love your videos by the way, you will shoot Maine sometime?
Thank you, I don't know when I'll be in Maine next, it's not someplace I really have a reason to go and there isn't much that draws me there me as far as shooting videos goes, sorry.
They love to revolt new highways here which are desperately needed because of growth.. Like the proposed "outer perimeter" which was supposed to start construction over 20 years ago (along GA 20).. I wish they would have built it. I could drive from here in Canton to Gwinnett country in like 20 minutes. Id be more than happy to pay the tolls.
I remember at 1st it was proposed as "The Northern Arc", or GA 500, in the mid 90s stretching from around Cartersville on the 75 side to somewhere around Lawrenceville/316 on the 85 side. Then later in the 90s, an entire outer perimeter was proposed. Either way, it would have been completed by now. www.reddit.com/r/Atlanta/comments/7woksj/til_there_was_a_proposed_outer_perimeter_state/
6:27 - I did a double take because I thought the passenger in the car passing you on the left flipped you off.... turns out it's an index finger so I guess they were just saying "FreewayJim is #1!" Haha!
Looking forward to your videos from Florida, around Fort Myers in particular. We have *no* freeway system unfortunately but there's been a lot of improvement on I-75.
Thanks for this video Jim. Great song choices too. Saw Hugh Howell/Tucker exit. My aunt and uncle live right off Hugh Howell( I think I told you that before). Thanks for the memories. Is that original Pancake House still there as well? That is one of my fav places
It's very exciting that one of my favorite youtubers is visiting my hometown! Hope you like it down here! The FDOT and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise have been busy upgrading and widening our freeways, so it will look much nicer than the 90's
Interstate 40 between Durham and Raleigh is a great drive (when it's not rush hour), and would probably make a great video. When you're in North Carolina next maybe?
Yeah no offense to that Andrew guy, but good golly, was the originality in his stuff next to NONEXISTENT at best; literally copying your playlist (whoop Dee Doo, but...) AND trying to mimic your editing style for much, if not all of his vids! But MAJOR props to him for covering LOTS of the state of Ohio, along with multiple Kentucky Parkways; quelling my curiosity and kept me coming back occasionally (but why was it that his vids got "blurrier" the newer they got..? That made absolutely NO sense)...
I imagine if you could put up a static picture of rural I-75 or I-95 for ten minutes, and it wouldn't be far off of what you actually see. I'm sure you'll be happy to turn on your TV for once and not be bombarded with nasty political commercials (I'm not going to ask you what you think about the contest since a. it's none of my business, b. I don't care, and c. from what I can tell, it looks like you don't live in that part of Atlanta anyway).
