I love that you made this video! I have not encountered another designer video that takes animals or children into account.

Replacing my wool area rugs with outdoor rugs is one of the smartest things we’ve done for a low-maintenance, pet friendly house. They look great forever, they’re easy to clean, and much less expensive than the wool rugs I used to have. I remember the first time I cleaned one of wool rugs. My house smelled like a wet animal for a week!

Where did you buy your outdoor rugs? :)

ruggable is legit tho. our old cat had a little box accident and dragged poo across the living room rug. we spot cleaned and disinfected then threw it in the wash machine. good as new.

I purchased one at IKEA and one from Amazon. I’ve had the IKEA one for 8 years and it still looks great.

We got our indoor/outdoor rug at Costco. Problem is, it isn’t as soft as I would like..

I have pets and kids - my best buy has been my IKEA farlov sofa, in grey. All the sofa covers are washable, and after 3 years it's still looking great. I have peace of mind that if there is a disaster, I can purchase new covers relatively cheaply, and the sofa itself is very comfortable and was affordable.

Great video, Thank you for talking about toxic plants, and essential oils. The list of toxic things cats can ingest is huge and something I have to be vigilant about with a cat that will eat almost anything and that includes wallpaper and plastic bags.

Sadly, I believe my parents cat got liver failure and passed because of a house plant in their home 😢

My female cat has pica too. She'll eat plastic bags, ribbon and peeled of wall paint to make the map of Scotland. I found just leaving a couple cardboard boxes in her favourite rooms has helped to decrease this tendency. A medium sized box will last a month of chewing. Easy to sweep up.

I had no idea about mint essential oil being toxic to cats, thanks so much Reynard! and Oh yea, the Chom Chom is a staple in our home for years, your friends are right to recommend it- super product! For people with kids and/or pets, I def recommend putting up board and batten/wainscoting in high traffic areas You can paint these in satin/eggshell paint without it overwhelming the space (since it looks like an extension of baseboards) Then just scrub scrub scrub away, lol

wife got a chom chom last year and we love it. two black cats in a light, bright house. it’s so easy and i think she actually enjoys using it.

I've had dogs for the past 14 years, and here are some tips if they shed a lot (double coat) or how to keep the home clean. -get a high velocity dryer and wash them 3-4 times a year. The dryer blows out all loose hairs. (It gets our dogs through shedding season the quickest.) I also use it after a muddy, rainy walk because it blows all the dirt right off before it gets into the house. You can also get your dog just washed at a grooming salon, but still would buy a velocity dryer for after a swim or muddy walk. -Also, wipe their paws before entering the home. I always have an old towel near the door. (If you have a puppy, just do it after every walk, even if it's not muddy outside. That way, they get used to it early, and you don't have to battle them when they are a teen and you're trying to clean their paws for the first time). -only buy dog beds with a washable cover or something you can wipe down. -we only buy our couches second hand and always a type of leather (I hate shiny leather, so often it's a matt brown couch). That way, we can just get a different couch every couple of years that doesn't break the bank. -we also try to get cute dog bowls and make the bed covers fit our style. That way, they're way less noticeable. -my dogs don't show interest in my plants, but when we leave, they get locked out of the living room (we have a dining room and hallway they can be in where we have no plants). Just in case. -get a stick vacuum. It makes vacuuming so much quicker and easier. Just keeping up with the pet hair and sand in the areas the dogs come, saved you a lot of cleaning time in the rest of the house. As socks always take everything with them throughout the home😅

Ive seen your diy furniture projects and this might be an odd one, but would you ever be inclined to draft up ideas for pet owners who need to build cages/habitats for dogs or even small animals like guinea pigs, that look like furniture to blend seamlessly into a home? I recently bought a cage and the plan is to make it look like a 6ft bench/ottoman but would love to hear your ideas.

Dear parents, One mistake I made that you can avoid... once they become teenagers, do not assume that your kids will be less destructive or more clean. 😂😂 My youngest is 16, and this is still not the time to buy light furniture or rugs. 😉 Oops.

Two tips: when shopping for upholstered items, bring the swatches home and actually lay them on your pet - then get the color closest to their fur color. Also, use a mug with a spill-proof lid (with a button you must push to dispense your drink) if you have a dog whose tail knocks your mug off every surface. I have use polypropylene rugs but they get a terrible crush/traffic pattern which looks dirty even when freshly cleaned. I've gone back to old-fashioned wool because of this.

I love this video. It has been very helpful. I babysit my grandchildren and have 2 dogs and a cat. We do have an indoor outdoor rug which I was looking to change out. But I think I will wait 😮. Another fabric not good to have for furniture is microfiber. Ugh, not a good choice but for now, it needs to stay. 😊

I dont have a coffee table because my dogs play and roll around so much in my living room, it just doesnt make sense. So many people always ask why I dont have one. Im prioritizing daily usage over infrequent visits from friends/family.

It's a lot of responsibility. If you have the time for a pet, you should do it. If you're gone a lot, a cat is an easy one.

@@MasonFPS Is it? They're not as aloof as people used to think back in the day.
@MasonFPS
@MasonFPS 6 месяцев назад
@@Felineintuition I'm talking about them being lower maintenance than a dog. If you live alone and work a lot, it's not the best thing for a dog to just be cooped up all day without someone around. That's a recipe for disaster too; you might come home to something destroyed. A cat will probably just sleep all day lol For context, I have 2 cats and a 13 week old puppy.
