I think stylish people can rock anything, it’s all about the context.

The definition of a stylish home is not exclusively reserved for the contemporary style. The floral and checkered pattern is timeless. English cottage style interiors are a perfect example of wonderful interiors using these patterns. The most important question is whether you like such interiors - it is a subjective matter.

I agree with everything you said except for the rocking chair. Outside on your porch or patio a rocking chair can be SO NICE and serene to sit in while having your coffee or lemonade and just rock away...i love them. I also live in the north east so maybe it's a north eastern type of thing...but i think rocking chairs are cool lol.

@@sgtmomOKso true. I inherited an antique solid walnut sideboard which I last had valued maybe 20years ago and they reckoned it would fetch about £8,000. Agree 99%, Valentina. The porch rocking chairs are where we differ. As a coastal New England native, whose style is somewhat similar to your own, Adirondack chairs on the lawn and white porch rockers are never viewed as dated in this region. Many of the most upscale hotels on Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and my hometown of Newport, RI grace their porches with rockers that are the most coveted seats for locals and tourists to enjoy a cocktail and gentle ocean breezes. As for those mid century brown or black rockers you pictured, I definitely agree that they are and have always been unfortunate additions to a room.

I definitely don’t decide what is stylish. I just share with people the trends and styles. The truth is that styles and trends have existed all throughout history. As we create new things we want new things and it’s incredibly human to desire something fresh and new. Of course the ultimate question is, do you love it? But there’s also nothing wrong with wanting some different and new at the same time.

Omg! On point on everything except the lighting! I love my 1920 full heavy solid brass chandelier with its patina and my 1920 heavy real alabaster rope pendant in my interior entry. You can’t find this quality on Amazon… plus I own a 1920 craftsmen four square. Yes we have Redon kitchens bathroom and updated all the real lime plaster… oh the sconces on each side of my old brick fireplace are also period to the home. And I’m very stylish, the most stylish folks know how to blend eras…build a home that doesn’t look like we ordered it all from RH mad pottery barn and Amazon or wheresver. Yes I own all of these a west elm sofa an RH english arm chair…pottery barn vessels but I know how to blend in my vintage and antiques. And I love that color is finding its way into the best designed homes from AD to house and gardens. We don’t all need to live in beige homes. My wood paneling is wainscoting around the dining room beadboard in the mudroom and all seasons room upstairs. I painted the beadboard. But I love the warm wood tones. Anyway the most stylish people know how to juxtapose eras and items…we know how to layer…find quality items and make home feel like home.

I love when you two make videos together, you make me smile! Agree about recliners being ugly, but.... We just solved that problem! Backstory, after a marriage and a move (for me) we are now purging some of my husband's furniture and integrating some of mine into our home. He had a set of two very comfortable chairs; one of them had a huge "ottoman" in front of it, and he would sit there to read the paper. This ottoman (not really an ottoman, more of a small upholstered coffee table which was too tall, hard, and not comfortable to place your feet on) disrupted the flow of traffic. The room was unbalanced which really bothered me, but I seemed to be the only one who noticed. We ended up buying a set of beautiful chairs that actually recline, but look nothing like a recliner! Huge win! They look great and the flow of traffic is seamless...no dodging around that ugly ottoman! Now my husband loves the arrangement and the ease of movement through the space. Scale is another thing we are working on! My husband has some lovely pieces that don't fit the scale of the room, they dominate it. We are working to balance the den and guest room now. We will be moving out to do a full renovation this coming fall, but a few tweaks help for now. It is really a process to integrate two households with different tastes and styles. Sometimes it's hard to let go of "this is the way it has always been", but if we respectfully work together we can open our minds to endless possibilities that make both of us happy!

I’ve been guilty of all but the paneling….my late Mom had that plus all the others. 😂can’t talk hubs away from his swivel recliner, was a huge contention between us but he’s the breadwinner so I conceded.😮

Yeah, I agree. It was the recliner, but I always dig in my back every single time.

That sofa! Yes, my mum wanted to give hers to us when we got married, and I was like no way, we will save for something we like. She was so affronted! "but it's got solid wood arm rests! It cost alot of money, such good quality!"

Don’t even get me started on those urine catcher rugs! Any man who pees on the floor is not datable for me. I have three sons. I taught them how to pee IN the toilet, not AROUND it and showed them how to clean it up with a paper towel and Lysol if they missed. To this day, none of them pee anywhere but in the toilet. Just because almost all, guys pee in the floor, doesn’t mean you have to be one of them. Moms and dads, teach your sons!

Those plaid sofas went in the basement rumpus rooms. Remember those? I once had a floral sofa and when I updated I couldn’t even get a charity shop to take it. I ended up taking my chain saw to it and hauled it to the dumps. The sad thing is that furniture is so expensive that you can’t change it every time you get a twinge

I had an add-on room in a house I bought, a sunroom type thing where they essentially boxed in the old square patio 20x20 room and it had paneling. Since the walls were superthin, I didn't want to mess with trying to figure out what would install well since it probably had aluminum supports rather than wood behind there, so I tinted some sand paint, stucco like stuff, and put it on the walls and it looked great. I had to do it with my hands as nothing else seemed to work well and it ate thru gloves quickly, and I wanted it kinda textural like a plaster look, so plan on wrecked hands for a month or two, but the end result was great. Saved a lot of money too. Cheap fix, esp if it's a 'make it pretty' but you'll eventually redo the whole thing kinda project. I never redid it, but it looked great so I didn't really need to,

Thankfully I checked all the boxes for stylish decor. Ask yourself, “is this tasteful?” If not, keeper’ moving. With regards to sofas, quality and measurements to room size and your height? Just right and comfy too. ❤

We bought a 1990 built house in 2020. We switched out all the horrible brass lighting in 2022. I was SHOCKED that anyone would want it, but Habitat for Humanity Restore in my area was all about it. Lights are lights! They all worked, but just weren't what we wanted so off they went to someone who needed lighting no matter the decade the lights were from. Was thrilled to get all the fixtures to someone who could use them! So thankful! I LOVE to recycle. Back to your first topic of this video. Sofas! We got rid of a sofa in 2020 during COVID. Great structure, but fabric was UGLY and badly CAT traumatized by our cat Jackson with his long nails. Would HAVE been a perfect coucn for a college dorm room. They could throw blankets or sheets on it if needed as IT was COMFY to sleep on. Party on for the college kids! SADLY, COVID-19 prevented that transfer of ownership and I watched it get squashed in trash truck and it ended up in a landfill since no one wanted to get potential Cooties from it at the time. So sad!

They still make sofas you can keep for life if you pay for it! I decided when I moved to do just that and I’ll have it for the rest of my life. It’s a contemporary design that will go with anything in a beautiful rusty brown leather. It’s cheaper in the long run than buying a new sofa every few years. Get high quality leather and take care of what you have. This means eating at the table for kids, no jumping on it, etc. and yes, my labradoodle sleeps on it. It still looks brand new after 7 years.

Hey! I have new Tupperware ...😂 watch it now ..🤪 As we become veteran parents , we realize what works for sure. Men love recliner chairs . Aka , " Dad chairs ." My dad had one and you knew to get out of it when he arrived . He wouldn't say anything, if someone was in it, but he had that look , he wished he was sitting in it. Lighting is very important. I do not like dim lights either . Brighten up the place .
