Fun fact: Hrbaty not only beat all of the big 3 but even retired with a positive h2h against the Big 3: 3:1 against Rafa 2:1 against Federer 1:1 against Djokovic 6:3 in total Quite an underrated feat…

But take this into consideration, when he beat them, they were young, had 0 slams, and were only just starting tennis but I agree, an underrated feat

@@wasghdej1625 yeah of course, thought about including that but being all rational about it takes the fun out of it😂 Rafa and Novak especially we’re teens when they played him, that loss Novak had was back in 2004 (!) on Challenger level in Bratislava. Still a very cool achievement to have, and Hrbaty can probably brag about that at any bar he goes to to this day.

Lol, Nadal really had an atrociously bad service back in the day. His rallies were so good he didn't need a service to win so he probably never learned himself a good one in the years before.

I don't know, this Nadel or whatever he is called does not convince me yet. Ok he is still 17, but i don't see a huge talent. He will compete for some 250 or even 500, not for the big titles. I see a good top 50, not more. But who knows

Can't believe Rafa missed that last forehand on the final point (at 8:31). He missed some ground strokes on some key points - that he almost never missed during the course of his career. Had he made a couple of those - this would have been his first ATP title.

Federer lost a lot of early finals.. its the final product that counts. And hrbaty could beat a lot of good players. Was almost good enough to win the Davis Cup in 2005 on his own.

Nah I always knew Nadal would become a legend from this tournament his first. That backhand and agility was unstoppable then. I said the same with feds and NJ too….but this tournament for nadal…most ups is in NZ knew it was the start of greatness

And this Nadal beat Federer in straight sets in Miami, months later. Hrbaty was a beast. Whilst he wasn't consistent, he could get himself going and catch fire when he was up against the best in the business, both from his generation as well as the newer generation of the Fedalovic era. He troubled all three of the latter especially, but as he got old and lost conditioning and fitness, he couldn't keep his body up to compete for longer. I'd always wonder what he'd be like if he was born in this era and the kind of danger he'd pose to the very best of today's game.
