@@KushertFor ego, I’d say you can get about 4-7 30 minute 1-2 man properties done with a 4ah. I personally use Greenworks 60v, 48/24v dual volt, Husqvarna 40v, Echo 56v for string trimmers and for the 60v platform on a 5ah using the multi attachment trimmer I’m able to trim 6-8 “maintained” properties on a single charge (30 minute 2 man properties). For Husqvarna I use a 9.4ah and get 8-10 properties of the same type done. For the Echo with a 5ah I get about 7-10 properties done of the same type. And the dual volt Greenworks commercial I get about 4 properties done on the 4ah big battery same type of properties (only reason I get poor runtime is because the trimmer I use (attachment capable) is really hard to feather down other than that it’s light and very powerful. I’d say that if you know how to use a battery trimmer to maximize runtime and follow tips like using twisted line which gets better cutting efficiency and runtime you can get through a full day with 3 batteries on almost any trimmer platform as long as the properties are maintained and as long as you have a trimmer that actually has “gas like power” because if you have a weak trimmer it tends to be less efficient. We even use two backpack blowers, hedge trimmers, and a couple of chainsaws that are battery powered. They can definitely do the job but you just have to do a lot of research before buying. You also don’t “need” commercial branded or professional grade battery equipment to get the job done. I think my personal advice to anyone looking to go battery powered is to settle on a decent platform and get all your batteries on that because we have more than 30+ batteries on 5+ platforms (which all do serve their purpose) but we could really do we just two platforms (one for handheld outdoor tools and one for handheld power fastening, grinding, etc tools)

I have 30 yards that I maintain on my own. I don’t have a LLC or business name. I just go by me. I don’t have insurance. I own 2 trailers but only 1 truck. I own a Wright Stander 36” and Toro Titan 42” I love working alone because there’s no stress. I was fired from my last job for not being a “team player,” which led me to start my own lawncare business. I don’t advertise. All my yards were either given to me or bought off of someone who was exiting the business. If you do a good job you don’t need to advertise. The work comes to you. Some of my clients came to me from word of mouth or approach because of the quality and consistency of my work. I have full quality control since I work alone. I find that my customers like that I work alone and have complained about the change in quality when I tried hiring someone in the past. So I’m resistant to hire anyone even though I realize it limits my potential to expand the business. I want full control and I feel like that’s only possible when I work alone.

Yup, you can get a helper during your busy times. Pay him well in cash. Sort of like an on call basis. That way you are with him but nearly double your production. Just because a big company has 20 trucks, 40 guys and 30 mower units doesn’t mean they are turning profit. Also you are a Sigma Male

I'm in construction and work by myself. Sometimes I get my retired father to help and pay him cash. I make over $30,000 most months. What I do is so specialized that I couldn't just hire anybody. Besides when you have employees you're just running around trying to find work to keep them working so they don't leave. I'm particular about my equipment too and I don't like my stuff broken. I've managed teams when I was an employee and I just don't care for it (Late, no show, whining, no care attitudes, the hand holding, etc). I like working alone and I have no stress or problems. Everybody says running a business is so stressful but I've never felt better in my life. Two things 1. Don't have debt & 2. Don't have employees.

To do it the right way, it’s not cheap and many are shocked at the prices but not as shocked as me when I see how much some others actually charge. At least I sleep well and have a roof over my head. That’s all I have after 30+ years of self employment. Maybe I should have cut lawns, the numbers mentioned in this video were amazing and much more. Than I ever saw in my line.

I hear you. I'm a contractor and I can't believe how cheap the illegals are doing the work where I live. I try to only do commercial work because most them don't have insurance or a license. What type of a sub contractor would mow a yard for 24 dollars to drop your gates. I wouldn't drop my gates for under $52 dollars if I had to supply a truck, trailer, insurance for truck, workman comp insurance, 14 percent for Social Security, and my company liability insurance, Are these guy 1099 or self employed. If I was mowing 80 to 100 yards and bring in 4800 to 6000 a week; it would only take me another 15 hours to do credit card billing. Quality control is going to be bad along with headaches if you start having different sub contractors on the same account. Your also gong to have to train subcontractors and end up spending 24 to 40 hours on them and your still going to have to 1 to 2 days a week driving routes to make sure all of your subcontractors are doing quality control. For every 1.5 million in sales you will need to hire a sales account manager to schedule a route for that amount of contracts, do curb sales, handle quality control issues, If I were to sub out work it would only be for the mowing, spring and fall leaf cleanup, and for doing plowing. I would hire a irrigation tech with installation knowledge and start to install, and I would do all of my own landscaping. Do it in stages. Once I got over 2 million in sales, I would start to do the higher profit margin areas of Horticulture. Irrigation work: 90 dollars an hour for a service work, lighting is profitable, hardscape, and landscaping. I would also have the inhouse crews do all of the mulching, floral, and pruning. I would also start to bid on commercial accounts and only do 3 year contracts. I WOULD USE A GROUP LIKE GO ILAWN FOR MY BIDDING FOR EVERY ACCOUNT FOR HOMES AND COMMERCIAL. It only cost about 4 dollars per use to get a exact measurement of the property and you can print out color coded areas on each site map so your crews know what size mower to use. It appears you use push mowers to mow. That is recipe for failure if you think your going to sent different crews to different properties based upon growth or to cover shortages for subcontractors. A zero turn will last for 2400 hours before it starts to need repairs. If you are gong to be a sales force group, you also need to be in the leasing business. Go to a company like Exmark and make a deal for fleet rates and lease 10 to 30 mowers or what ever you need every 3 to 5 years. I would put 800 hrs on a mower every year doing commercial work. I would do three year leases for 30 or so new mowers every three years and we were required to buy it at the end of the lease and then I would sell them all for around 2,000 to 3,500 each to a wholesaler for used equipment. I had a boss once that owned three companies: A leasing firm, real-estate for his properties, and one for his accounts and employees. The company that did all of the work didn't own a single piece of equipment or building. He lease everything to them so incase he got sued or somehow had to file bankrupt, it would only be for the one company he owned. He currently owns the company Go Ilawn and Ground Systems in Ohio. He owns several Shops and services over a hundred miles in direction. I think they made around 38 million last year for his Horticulture group. He sold it Brickman Group when he had a partner and then he started new again in 2013.

I live my EGO. But I always wondered what a professional lawn care person would pay to keep an all electric collection of tools running.

He shouldn’t have even been able to cash the check he got from the customer it should be made out to the company and only the owner should be able to cash those as he could’ve went back to the customer and asked to get the check rewritten and have the other check voided and still made the money

I tell you what… Hard manual labor is quickly becoming more and more a nerds game in the industry. Those who are savvy enough to keep up with the technology and advancement in AI are going to make serious bank and they’re hardly going to have to lift a finger to do it unless you count pressing keys on a laptop. I was hoping humanoid robots would get to a point where they could eventually do the weedeating for me. I didn’t even think about using AI to help with the backend of the business which is totally possible right now! That’s crazy smart!

So after the contractor gets the job and is making the customer happy what is stopping him from firing Eagle and charging the customer at 90% directly? 🤷‍♂️

No more business for the contractor, Nathan provides the work, and the contractor is kept busy, and making money, why would he steal a customer, and than have to look for his own customers, which takes time.

This model is really sticky for the subs, It is a easy way to be bleed out. If you sub to this model, Make sure you are getting paid and are keeping up with inflation. Working for free or working and losing money (AKA paying to work) is not fun.
