Maggie , I have retired after 43 years flying and you had me clapping at home watching this. Well done young lady , you can be super proud of yourself. To the controller , you too sir were super.
@@f18forlife72 I mean I think it is a joke, as it is clearly supposed to be funny, but they're also making an actual point. You can very clearly see that the props stop INSTANTLY when the plane lands. Why and how, since that's not something they are able to do on their own? Well, they slammed into the ground, since without the landing gear there is not enough clearance for the props to stay clear of the ground. Also the props are super bent after they stop. I have reached the end of my actual knowledge/common sense, and I don't know if that's how they're supposed to be, but idk maybe they were bent like that from the impact on the ground? Like they were spinning with enough power, but they couldn't cut through the ground, so the weak point ended up being the tensile strength of the blades and so they each got bent as they were rotated into the ground? I'm not sure. But regardless it seems very clear that the propellers are going to be very messed up, and presumably the engine which is mechanically linked to them probably isn't feeling to great after that either.
this isn't the video of her landing, she was flying a plane with fixed gear, and the left main fell off when she took off, she still had the other 2 gear.
The video is of a different incident. In this incident, she is in a Piper Cherokee with fixed undercarriage. The right main wheel was lost on rotation. She landed on left gear first, as mentioned in the recording. The video is of an incident where there were two people on board a commercial pilot training flight.
See "Controller Gives Pilot Terrible News" on the RU-vid channel 74 Gear for the real story about Maggie at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RZ0Qr3l8UPM.html
It was her instructor, not traffic controller. And this isn't her plane video. In hers, she lost ONE wheel of the landing gear, not belly landing, which may have even made the landing harder.
In the extended version of this, Maggie is talking to ATC and her voice is weak and shakey.. you could tell she was absolutely terrified. The moment her instructor got in comms, her voice evened out and she handled the rest like a pro. It was amazing to hear, she knew she was in good hands. Well done to both ❤
This is Microsoft flight sim - Edit: it is said in the description of this video that this is not the original footage, feel free to observe all the highly ignorant people on this comment thread who are the reason ai will take over lmao
@@kitknight5903 no it is, I dont think you have played it before, it's ultra realistic and this channel confirms it as all of his longer videos which I know you havent watched are flight sim
When the right main touches down it will pull to the right, and the original plane was a Warrior two piper cherikee with a fixed triaxle landing gear. The aircraft would not be able to do a belly landing.Right instuctions, wrong aircraft. "Click Bait".
@@darthsebio1726 No! 50% bs, commentry correct, wrong aircraft video of landing, the true landing video was a fixed tri-axle piper with the left hand wheel missing, lost on take-off thats why the tower instucter told the youg pilot the air-craft on touch-down would pull to the right.🦘🦘🐨
Her life isn't really on the line. Gliders for example don't have landing gear and make these landings (and even if they do, the wings will still scrape the ground). Plus, if she screws up the landing she can always go around and try again, gliders only have one shot to land since they aren't powered. So really this is just a normal landing with a difficulty tweak.
@@pilotvlog I already have. And never did I say I was better. I just said that saying her life is on the line was an when really it's just a slightly harder landing.
This is all the resume you will need for your new career as a pilot. The world is yours and deservedly so. You are a doer. You just get things done. I am so proud of you.
As a ex F16 fighter pilot now flying the 787-10 with a major European Airline i can only say……..with that calmness and already GREAT flying skills you have an AMAZING flying career ahead of you. Enjoy, and respect it. You deserve it! 🛫👍💪👩✈️I wish you all the best, Greetings Sam from the Netherlands
That was a meaningful message sure she appreciates it if she ever received it. Thanks for that makes us feel better knowing other pilots might see the extreme nervousness here. Yikes yet she did beautifully.
@Fleshox19-uz3qt you've gotta put in a lot of flying hours, most of which you pay for yourself, for instruction. But yea, maybe it's a hobby for her. Maybe her family bought her flying lessons. We don't know. But we do know Maggie is a champion 🏆 ❤
@@ElmoPlayssWhat tells you they didn't check the landing gear? You know the landing gear can seem perfectly fine on the ground but when you're up in the air the won't come out. That happens.
Instructor had ice in his veins. Gave her the courage to do what she needed. Subconsciously she's thinking, if he's not nervous, I must be doing something right. I've got a chance at this after all.
Maggie landed on a grass field, she had the right gear missing, this is a different landing video, the audio it's the maggie landing, but not the video
@@SlincLincYeah you seem correct but the video does say "not original footage!" so the audio could be real. Microsoft Flight Simulator looks amazing though.
I seen a longer video of this and boy I am glad the guy did not call in that day because he talked to her straight to the core of care . I belive he saved her life. He was so calm reassuring that she was calm
I watched the full version with the ATC communication and Maggie is amazing, you have to understand this was her very first solo flight. Her landing gear had a problem and she had to do a planned emergency landing. She was so brave and she absolutely nailed the landing. Go Maggie!
@@Chirhopher The clue is in the part of title "Student's first solo flight". At some point you have to leave the instructor behind as, you know, they won't be there for you on every single flight when you get the pilot's license.
Great job Maggie. I'm 76 years old and a Clinical Social Worker. I worked in the schools my entire career and had a private practice in the evenings and summers working with athletes in the area of Sports/Performance Psychology. Every coach who works with individual athletes and teams should listen to the long version of this video. In a life and death situation this instructor/teacher/coach was perfection. This is how we teach, this is how we learn, this is how we grow. Absolute Perfection. I'm in awe.
this guy is such a nice man!!! he feels what Maggy is feeling and keeps a comforting and reassuring speech although I'm sure his heart is beating stressing out like crazy!!!
When she said “Alright… that’s a good thing”. Her voice was shaking from nervousness. All good that she landed that real smooth while being so nervous.
She still had 2/3 wheels, not none like in the video. But still, she did amazing. She was terrified, and the instructor and ATC did their jobs beyond perfectly. Im so happy to see everyone was okay, and she is continuing her aviation career :)
I'm glad someone else noticed this was not the actual video!. She was missing her right main wheel lost it on take off.thats why he says it will pull to the right when it touches down
@@darknasethat is not true at all. The plane she was flying is a fixed gear and it lost a wheel. The other two do not retract, so she was forced to land with one main and the nose. Hence whoever is talking to her advising that it will pull in one direction when she puts it down. From her tone and other context, she is clearly a student solo. Students do not typically learn in retractable gear planes.
The instructor sounds like Howard Stern. I don’t endorse some of Stern’s antics, but he has that comforting voice as does the instructor in this clip. Congrats to the young pilot.
This instructor was amazing. He was staying calm and collected while talking to her because he knows that from her perspective, if the person TEACHING her is freaking out, she is definitely going to freak out more than she already was, from the sound of her voice. He kept calm so she would keep calm.
She landed like a boss! Almost no fear in her voice although I'm sure she was nervous nervous nervous! Great job Maggie! You have such a career in flight ahead of you!
Yes, talked her down, because she had GREAT instruction. All along in her training AND THIS final landing. Get her back up, let her prove she can have a normal landing
So much respect for that woman! She was so calm, collected, and did what she was instructed to do. Also, respect for the instructor - he is a real pro.
Well... I don't know about calm. You could hear her heart in her throat. But she maintained enough composure that she was able to land safely. Kudos to her and the instructor.
Hold your calm even when your voice is shaking, she did an incredible job, the teachers voice so calm & confident, what a team. Why am I crying?! I’ve watched this 20x, it’s really got me. Beautiful work everyone 🎉🎉🎉
This is not the video for this audio. There’s no associated video for this incident. If you listen to the whole thing, this 17 y/o student pilot was in a Cessna on her first solo. After she took off, another aircraft on the ground radioed ATC saying that he witnessed the left landing gear fall off the plane as she took off. This woman handled the situation like an absolute G and landed the plane safely. iirc she was back in the air continuing lessons just a few days later.
This brings tears to my eyes and puts a lump in my throat. A 17 yo girl so impressive at her demeanor and the way she held it together through this harrowing experience. I salute you young lady such bravery! You will…. No you are an excellent pilot!!! Well done! 🫡
It's not that the landing gear wouldn't come down, it's that part of it _fell off_ upon her departure. The aircraft was a Piper PA-28 Warrior which doesn't even have a retractable undercarriage.
No she was not calm. When you find the full clip, you can hear the distress in her voice (it can be hard to listen too, as she sounds like she is on the verge of crying and you really sympathies with her). However with the help from the instructor, she managed to handle the situation really well, despite being in a very stressfull situation. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kZ5q7Iv5wTM.html
@@RoseyCakess I did not try to demean her feat, which she actually pulled off quite well. I was just pointing out that she sounded rather uncomftable in the situation and a bit stressed out. Not exactly what I would call being calm. But she managed to realise the seriousness of the situation she was in, and accepted all the help she could get from the ground, in order to prevent it from getting even worse. She managed to pull herself enough toghether, with the assistance of her instructor that handled the situation excelently, and told her all the right things at the right time, so she could make a good landing. Incel? how about you hold a bit back with the insults? Those rarely do anything good for you. Especially when you get what I was saying wrong, they seem a bit out of line. Attacking someone as the fist option, when they point out a minor mistake you made in order to help you learn, is, in my experience not the best strategy. Insults won't make you look superior, but rather pathetic and insulting someone certainly does not make you look calm and in control of your feelings.
The calm in the Air traffic controller's voice is what did it. She obviously has the touch for flying and her instructor was great. Good job girl.... I myself would have screamed 😮❤❤❤
It's great that when the student was terrified, the instructor was able to stay calm and give her lots of affirming words and encouragement. I can imagine this situation has potentially traumatizing effect, but I believe he was able to avoid that while also giving them a high-quality legitimate emergency landing lesson. Well done sir 👏
@@mattjack3983you're partially correct. She started talking with the tower. ATC had her circle the airport to burn off some of the fuel. Her instructor just happened to be at the airport.
traumatic? yup! saw one yesterday a stewardess was on a plane that blew up from a bomb at 33,000 feet. somehow she survived by being in the tail section and being k.o.'d by the explosion. she holds the record for furthest fall without a parachute and surviving. no joke. you'd think she'd b be traumatized too right? nope. she flew again after recovering. she has no memory of the event at all and as a result she has no fears since she can't recall anything. incredible story.
You’ve seen this on multiple channels but can’t realize that the video does not correlate to the ATC audio at all? “When the right main touches down” yet this video has no landing gear down at all. In fact, the aircraft in the original video didn’t even have a retractable landing gear
@@pumpkinferretyeah ik that the video is not the same as the audio. But the explanation prior explains the incident unlike other channels who just put in the video that doesn’t correlate with the audio and don’t say anything about the incident.
The amount of concentration and courage it must have taken for her as a (student) pilot to be able to land safely is mins boggling and to have an instructor who was able to not only direct her but keep her calm and reassured is equally amazing!

It’s even more impressive when you see what really happened. She was flying a plane that did not have retractable landing gear so a belly landing like the video shows was not possible. It wasn’t her first solo, but it was her first cross country solo - she was supposed to fly to another airport, have her ticket stamped and then fly back as part of her training. When she took off part of the strut and the wheel on one side broke away and fell off the plane - fortunately another pilot waiting to take off saw what happened and radioed the tower so they could let her know. She circled the runway for a while until they could find her instructor and he was able to help her out, but she had to land the plane with only one front landing gear and she did it.
The real landing was way more impressive than this video. The actual plane she was flying did not have landing gear that retracted and one of hers broke on takeoff so she had to land with only the gear on one side. Very impressive for sure.
@@hisgross I guess technically that may be true that she crashed due to no landing gear..but I dont call it a crash if all your wings and tail are intact. :)
@@rickbateman2401 Was wondering about this, first solo, and it's in a plane with retractable gear? then the controller talked about the other gear touching down.
@@NEtrailrider1 if you get a chance, listen to the whole recording. There is a video that does a reenactment with the full audio playing over it. Maggie, the ATC and her instructor did an amazing job getting that plane down without hurting anyone.
@@samd7601 She was crying but she didn't flip out. I'd recommend listening to the entire interaction from when they realize her landing gear isn't deploying.
She's still flying, dad is a pilot too. However the footage is not Maggie, but some random. Best to hear the whole thing explained at VASaviation channel (search for 17 y.o. Student pilot) Gets all the more impressive!
@@SlincLincthe audio is real. There is no actual footage of the real landing but there is a video that includes her conversations with ATC and her instructor, about it and what she did is a lot more impressive than this video. She lost a wheel and part of the strut on a plane that did not have a retractable landing gear so she had to land the plane with only landing gear on one side.
