Based on FIBA regional rules, Australia is one of us "Asian." So Technically their Asian in basketball world hehe😂. That's why as an Asian, we have to step up. Good thing we have them on our region. Now we have to adjust every qualifier. Before every Asian team is a cake walk against European and American teams. Now we can see the result. The gap is not that far anymore. Putting Australia and New Zealand on Asian quilifiers pays off. The competition is getting better. Asia is more familiar and getting use to compete against elite nations.

It wasn't just Yuki Kawamura, but Josh Hawkinson, the naturalized player from US, did his part and so did the "Japanese Steph Curry" in Keisei Tominaga in pulling an upset on Markannen-led Finland team while Yuta Watanabe, the lone NBA player, had an off-night. I am of a Japanese descent and I have that Japanese bias to root for Japan and hoping that they can get far to prove that anything is possible, especially in proving that Japanese (Asians) can ball and beat the best despite the physical disadvantages they have with height, girth, jumping ability, etc. They could make up for it with a fundamentally executed plays and every player understanding the role. Though a different roster, Japan pulled a victory on the next opponent in Australia a few years ago, it wouldn't be a shocker if they did it again.

Sad but true. We miss the old guard of guards. Offencively our back court could match up against Japan at least for three quarters but defence needs work. This is not all on the guards though. The small Japanese guards got to run circles around our bigger players. They got the switches they wanted and were even able to knock down threes against Markkanen & cos hands. But in the bigger picture and regarding other teams our back court just isn't there yet. Maybe with time and experience. I hope our young guards take leaps and maybe there are new guys still coming in as well.

Yuki Kawamura (from Daiichi HS - one of the top schools in Japan) also invited his basketball coach (the legendary Ideguchi) to the game - who sat in the stands and cheered on the young prodigy. Kawamura also won the MVP of Japan's B-League, in his first year of playing (of course - was ROY as well!).

@@nofurtherwest3474 maybe? He's still kinda young - 22. And he speaks English pretty well. I think he'd have value... it's a "maybe" tho'.
@reesthomas8467
@reesthomas8467 9 месяцев назад
@nofurtherwest3474 the problem is his height. He was on fire this game against Finland but not at all against Germany. And obviously the NBA is a way higher level than both. He looks like a really sharp guard but I imagine the NBA would be skeptical of how good someone so short would be on defense
@nofurtherwest3474
@nofurtherwest3474 9 месяцев назад
@@reesthomas8467 i see, yes i hear about defensive liability all the time. so basically the guy chose the wrong sport. had he chose soccer maybe he could have went pro like other Japanese players.

This proves to show you not to underestimate your opponent no matter who this opponent is. Japan showed what Greece showed in 2004 that you cannot take underdogs for granted. Two thumps up from Canada.

so the 125 million people country is the underdgo compared to the 5 million people country ?

@@ledernierutopisteyes they are underdogs, so you mean to say India and china have to be at the top in the basketball world just because they have the highest population in the world eh? Completely nonsensical logic
