The 1733 Side pack is versatile, lightweight and highly weather resistant 7L sling bag with some pretty great materials and construction works great for both outdoor and EDC use.

Its main claim to fame is probably its versatility and high carrying capacity for the weight and size - not only does it feature an expansive main compartment that can easily swallow big chunky things like cameras and water bottles, but it also has a large number of exterior straps and attachment points that easily lets you carry gloves, jackets, and more on the outside of the bag. This, combined with the great weather resistant materials makes this a great sling bag for the outdoors that is also fairly handy in urban EDC environments.
Conversely, the pack does have less interior organization than some may prefer, and the various straps on the bag are a bit fiddly at times and can contribute to a somewhat busy external appearance, though much of this can be cleaned up by tucking them away in the back panel.
Overall, the 1733 side back is a great choice for people looking for a distinctive, versatile hip / sling pack that can carry a lot for the size.

You went over so many scenarios that I have used with this bag because I use it literally every day. It has faults and "I wish this was this" but overall the Sidepack is the best bag I have ever owned in any side. Its my most versatile piece of gear.

Hi! Ditto on the issues you mentioned but I have love for the Sidepack. I even have the smaller version. Do I have issues with the crossbody strap, yup (too long on the larger version and because I can’t pull it tighter, it doesn’t hug my back well). Would I like a key leash, yes. Would I like an extra pocket, yes. Would I like a smaller buckle that doesn’t hit the middle of my chest, yup. But it still floats my boat. The smaller version is a better fit. What I like: I dig the capacity, lightweight material, aesthetic and that it doesn’t look like anything else out there. Cheers. P.S. the Evergoods Mountain 3.5 is too big for me and I wasn’t thrilled with the 2..0 strap management (too lazy and inept to change it). But I love the bag part. I really wanted it. I guess I should look at the Bellroy (looking for a slightly more refined sling with good strap management, fits, comfy, pockets, key leash, yada, yada, yada.

Would it be possible to pack this bag into my travel backpack? Could it pack flat?
@yaksok

I think most of the materials are pretty malleable. My VX one can easily pack flat. The only padding on this bag is in the back.

☹️ Its angled straps just gives off an **unbalance** feel because of its asymmetrical look. Just kinda wish the straps were centered. 😑

Kind of funny how old things become new. Didn´t they call this type of bag a ¨haversack¨ back in the civil war era?
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn Год назад
It does give some credence to the saying that "there's nothing new under the sun"! (I suppose after several millennia, human beings have probably discovered most of the general form factors for carrying things around on their person haha) That said, I thought a haversack had a somewhat different form factor (google seems to at least partially confirm this, though the references I found seemed to be from the early 20th century rather than the US Civil War period.) I found the 1733 Side Pack's form factor reminded me more of the "bum bags"/"fanny packs" popular in the latter half of 20th century, albeit updated with more modern materials and far better execution. (Interestingly, riffing off of your original comment, I do see luxury brands experimenting with this form factor more and more these days, at eye watering prices)
