I love that you don't have this bag stuffed to the gills. All the images and videos I've been able to find of the Transit Workpack feature the entirety of its volume stuffed, which tends to make it look very professional. Generally speaking I prefer a slouchier bag and for that reason I have the Venture Ready Pack because it feels a bit more casual to me. Also, great review of the Transit Backpack. I really like your reviews so I actually came here looking for a review of the Backpack. I'm glad I decided to click on this one because I didn't realize you'd be comparing the two.

Good point (though I suppose it depends on if you live in a left hand drive or right hand drive country) - have you tried it with the bag flipped around the other way so the handle is on the "correct" side for whichever side your passenger seat is on?

If it were a matter of principle for me to wear an iPad 13, I would just use and use not a sling but a Tumi Annapolis Zip-Flap Bag and it is much better than any sling in terms of organization, expansion, spaciousness (with expandable volume) and appearance as well as materials
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn День назад
Yeah - I feel like if you're carrying an iPad 13 (i.e. iPad Pro 12.9"), you're pretty squarely in the territory of bags that carry small laptop computers, so messengers, etc. For smaller tablets (in the video I believe I show an iPad mini and 11" iPad Pro, etc.) I think there is something to be said for sling carry and other types of smaller bags since you can realise significant size/weight decreases (as well as open up new use cases and different carry styles) versus what you find when you need to carry 13" tablets/laptops and larger.

@TheMountainborn День назад
Hi @natalgratea2365 ! My feelings about the bag have remained relatively the same, though this bag doesn't get that much time in my current rotation (I feel for example, that the Evergoods Civic Travel Bag 26 does everything this bag does but in a way that is much better suited for my personal preferences/travel style so that tends to be the bag I reach for when I need something for one bag travel in this general size/space.) That said, I have nothing against the Able Carry as it is still a great bag, and I like the brand in general and would definitely recommend it as an option for people looking for one bag travel bags in this general size.

Ipad pro 12.9 good or not?
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 21 день назад
Assuming you’re asking if a 12.9 iPad Pro will fit, the answer is absolutely not. An 11” iPad Pro barely fits but I don’t recommend it since it has to be slanted at an awkward angle and blocks access to most of the internal pockets. As I mentioned in my review, basically a key shortcoming of this bag is it is not sized to carry any tablet device much larger than an iPad mini IMO.

Is this backpack bigger than the Kanken 15” laptop backpack?
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 22 дня назад
Hi Jasmine - yes, both in terms of overall liter capacity (which is always a bit of an estimate since measurement methodology varies by manufacturer) but also in absolute dimensions (which are more concrete and comparable from manufacturer to manufacturer). The Aer City Pack Pro is roughly 24L versus the approx 18L of the Kanken 15” and it is slightly larger in each dimension. That said, the Kanken does have a single large main compartment and virtually no sidewall padding (thus slightly increasing usable internal capacity for the main compartment versus bags that devote a bit more thickness to sidewall padding) which means that for certain loadouts you might be able to fit slightly more in the Kanken’s main compartment than you might otherwise expect for its rated literate. But the Aer City Pack Pro (unlike its non-Pro version) also has a single very large main compartment so I doubt there is anything you can fit in the Kanken you can’t fit in the City Pack Pro - but conversely the larger capacity of the City Pack Pro means it can probably carry a bit more than than the Kanken overall. Anyway, I hope this helps!

@@TheMountainborn ok thank you so much! My back hurt on my last 2 week trip using the Kanken but if the Aer is bigger it may be worse? Hmm lots of thinking i need to do.
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 17 дней назад
@@lovealwaysjasmine - hmm. To be honest, there could be many different reasons why your back is hurting after carrying a backpack for two weeks. In no particular order: 1. You are carrying too much weight (relative to your body/frame size, etc.) 2. Your body may not be used to this type of exertion (i.e. if you are not used to traveling/walking constantly whilst carrying weight on your back and then all of a sudden go on an intense two week trip with a loaded pack it is natural your body will hurt) 3. The pack may be the wrong size/shape for your body type (or more importantly - your back length) 4. The pack may not be made for wha you are trying to do - the Kanken famously has very thin, unsupportive straps, no hip belt and very little padding. As cute as it looks, IMO this is not the best pack to carry a lot of weight for extended periods of time. I'm not saying any of those are the specific reasons, just speculating in general. However, usually speaking the actual size/weight of the pack is generally less important (provided it fits your back length - more on this in a second) than the weight and distribution of the contents inside (because usually the pack is only a small percentage of the overall weight that you are carrying; and if, for example, that weight is packed in the bag in a way that pulls your body backwards or unbalances you). Given that, I would start by checking the following 1. How much weight are you carrying? While there is no hard and fast rule, for daypacks it is often said that the upper boundary of the loaded pack should be no more than 10% of your body weight (and even that seems a bit high to me). My guess would be that a too-heavy pack is the number one reason why your back might be hurting (as opposed to the pack itself) 2. Does the pack fit your body properly? You can look up how to measure your back length online, but this is a very important thing to know - make sure the back and shoulder straps are properly fitted to your body shape and back length (you can look this up on RU-vid, there are tutorials to show how to achieve a proper fit) - a poorly fitting pack will make even the lightest loads much more uncomfortable to wear. 3. Is the pack made for what you are trying to do? See my note about the Kanken above - it is not a pack with a lot of bells, whistles or creature comforts and this can make a difference in everyday comfort and wear - it certainly is not the pack I would choose for an extended 2 week trip simply because it isn't that comfortable or supportive (in my opinion) . Okay I hope this helps - if you let me know the total wight you are carrying (and a few sample items in there) I can possibly share some more detailed advice.

Did Bellroy fixed the magnet issue? Magnets were weak and the bag opens up on its own
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 29 дней назад
As you can see from my video, I had the same issue with the weak magnets and bag opening on its own. This review is three years old and while it looks like there may have been some minor materialway updates to the bag based on the most recent version for sale on their website, it doesn't look like there's anything majorly changed with the opening/closing mechanism so I doubt they have meaningfully addressed this (I am not sure how they would whilst keeping the same two-magnet closure system, save using some extremely strong magnets (rare earth etc), though that would introduce a whole host of other problems). That said I haven't tried the latest version on their site so I can't say for certain...

Hey Mountain love your videos! It looks like Evergoods released a v2 with better strap management would that change your mind on this it seems that was a big part of your cons? I’m between this and the Aer city sling 2 for carrying my x100v and some other small items for travel - any insight there?
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 29 дней назад
Hi @25millz - I actually picked up the new v2 CAS2 when they released it precisely for this reason. Happy to report that the strap system on the new sling is much, much better than the v1, ameliorates the primary pain point I had with the original and greatly enhances the overall usability and comfort of the CAS2 - I can recommend the v2 for sure. Regarding camera carry - I have a carried the X100VI in both the EG CAS2 (v2) and the Aer City Sling 2. It will fit well in either of them and either combo works well for the same kind of use case you described - small assortment of EDC items as well as a small dedicated camera held in a handy, easily accessible sling without taking up too much space. That said, I personally preferred the carry experience for the X100VI in the Aer City Sling 2 for the following reasons: * Superior internal pocketing of the City Sling 2 enables you to carry more items and be able to access them easily and without fiddling around whilst also still carrying and easily being able to access the camera * Organization design of the City Sling2 means the camera is less likely to get scratched by other items (for example, keys are in a separate external pouch, there are multiple "layers" inside of the sling that help shield pokey things from the camera screen, etc.) * Rectangular shape of the City Sling 2 fits more effectively with the rectangular shape of the X100 VI * The camera is slightly more protected (front/back) due to construction of the City Sling 2 vs. the CAS2 * For the X-pac variant (which I have), * Minor point, but if you tuck away the straps of the City Sling 2 (there is a hideway spot for them in the back of the sling) the whole thing becomes very much like a little semi-padded camera / tech pouch that fits nicely in a larger bag. I found this handy on a few occasions (dropped it inside my larger backpack, then took it out and had an on-the-go camera/EDC sling) To be clear, the CAS2 can carry the X100VI very well and it is also easily accessible. However there were a few things I found it did less effectively than the City Sling: * The front "dump pouch" pocket of the CAS2 where the camera has to go has no padding so the camera is basically exposed on all sides (front, side, bottom, top) and easier to damage * Lack of organization in this pocket means anything else you put in there will just rattle around, possibly damaging the camera so I found myself not really putting much else in this pocket which greatly limited the usability of the sling * More pressingly, the key leash is located in the same main big pocket where you would put the camera - I would never want my keys rattling around in the same compartment as my camera so I had to carry them in my pocket, which again, reduces the utility and purpose of having a sling * Personally, I felt the rectangular shape of the camera didn't mesh as well with the more ergonomic/curved design of the CAS2 which seems to encourage one to wear it high and tight with the bag conforming more to the curves of your body. I felt the camera meshed a bit awkwardly in this case (but this may just be personal preference) Anyway, both are solid slings for the kind of camera carry you want to do and of course it depends on your personal load out and preference but for me the City Sling 2 was my clear preference for carrying the X100 VI. I hope this helps!

@@TheMountainborn Wow thank you for that detailed reply! You really made my life hard though, I had sold myself on the CAS2 as I prefer the aesthetic and the buckle on the side will make having a backpack at the same time more comfortable. Good thing it's out of stock so I have more time to decide. Thank you again for your insight - you're the best!

I have been using the Day Sling 3 X-Pac the smaller version for a month and it has changed the way i carry my EDC. Not only its a pocket reliever, it empties all my pockets at times. Unfortunately the inner lining facing the front is peeling off a little bit so im quite puzzled why is it so 🤔 in a short period of time. Yes i do use the sling daily and i even packed it to the brim and it weighs 0.94 kgs with my phone being the heaviest item inside the main compartment in the sleeve. I agree with you the straps is a pain to adjust but once i adjusted to my desired length, i left it as it is. I like the internal organisation and it makes me more organised and easier to find my items when i need them. For the back compartment, i put my daily wallet which is the Alpaka Zip Pouch Pro in RX30 Ocean Blue ( my favourite colour and material) and overall I'm very pleased. I do put a Hero Clip mini on the loop handle and its much easier to hang the sling in places where i cant use the straps to hang. I have a packable tote from Peak Design which i put inside the zipped compartment inside for just in case and overflow. One more thing, I am able to make the sling stand even when its lightly loaded out. As me how 😉

The problem with the 9 and 10L sling bags is that once you start putting things in it, all that stuff will add to the overall weight of the sling and if you walk around with a heavy sling at your front, eventually, it will start digging into the cervical part of your spine and will just be a big bulk at your chest which gets annoying. I would rather have a bigger sling that goes behind you so the weight is more on your shoulders.
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 29 дней назад
Absolutely - overloading and load carriage are two things one always has to be careful of when it comes to slings. They can be ameliorated to some extent by careful sling design/structure (i.e. vertically oriented slings tend to carry more weight better as the bulk of the weight falls in line with your body; limiting depth of the sling body (to avoid putting weight too far out from the center line and thus torquing heavily on the shoulders, etc.), strap design and construction (i.e. wider and or more padded straps and designs that encourage carrying in ways that place the weight closer to the center of the body) and materials (i.e. materials or construction with some amount of flex/stretch/give that helps absorb/smooth out some of the natural points of impact as the mass of the sling oscillates up/down when walking, etc.) but one will never fully overcome the laws of physics :)

It is one of the better looking Evergoods bags, especially with 1680d. I prefer the side slash front access pocket of the CPL line but this deep dump pocket is good for water bottles. CPL16 is nice but it is heavier for 16L and fits 15" laptops only while PLC20 is stated to fit 17" which is strange, a CPL18 or 20 would have been better if you are going to cover laptops. I am not a fan of the tiny top yoke pockets like in CHZ too as it makes removing a laptop difficult without a side zipper for easy laptop removal, could either just forgo the padded laptop sleeve to make it more lightweight/small for minimal edc.
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 22 дня назад
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I agree that there are certain use cases where I would reach for the PLC20 over the CPL16 - I am a huge fan of the CPL24 (it’s probably one of my all-time favorite EDC daypacks) but when scaled down to the 16L size I found some of the trade offs of weight/size/capacity/usability that worked so well in the 24L size started to feel a bit sub optimal in certain use cases. Probably it’s better to think of the CPL16 as the CPL24 for people whose back length/frame size precludes them from comfortably rocking the 24L but still desire its entire feature set and design rather than as a smaller version of the CPL24 for those who could otherwise use the 24L. The PLC20 approaches the problem space from a different perspective from the start which is why I think it tends to be more usable in many cases and seems more refined in its trade offs, since those were solved from from start, rather than just being a shrunk-down version (CPL16) of a different design solution optimized for a larger size (CPL24). Just my thoughts however.

Really dangerous bag for photographers.Tiny little thin clasps that come apart with minimal pressure and cameras hit the ground! Really poorly designed bag.
@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 29 дней назад
Hi Marshall - thanks for sharing your perspective! For what it's worth, over the past couple of years I have carried quite a few different cameras in the 10L camera variant of this sling (which was not out yet when I made this review) and have never had any problems with the clasps coming apart or the cameras/bag hitting the ground. And I've carried a wide variety of systems in it as well: Leica M11, Leica SL2, Sony a6700, Sony A1, Hasselblad X2D100C etc. In my opinion, this sling performs better with smaller bodies/systems (M11, a6700, etc.) rather than big chonky ones (SL2,X2D, A1 etc.) and for casual shooting days I still prefer it to the rather dreadful and overbuilt and inefficient Peak Design everyday slings. That said, I agree that there are things about this bag (referring to the 10L Camera carry variant as opposed to the 9L general use version that I reviewed in this video) that I wish were designed differently. The clasps are part of it though more of my dissatisfaction revolves around the internal organization of the 10L camera variant. Couple of additional thoughts. 1. When I made this video the 10L camera sling variant of this bag was not available and Bellroy does not explicitly market this version (9L Venture) as aimed at photographers so might need to give them some leeway on that end, it was me who chose to put my camera in here 2. That said, the 10L Camera carry variant of this bag still uses the same side clips to attach the straps to the sling body so the difference is a bit moot 3. I have actually had one of these strap clip break on me on one of the slings I have that use this strap clip style (I forget if it was on the 9L or one of the 6Ls) - I was quite surprised since I was not expecting that and did not really overload or abuse the sling 4. However, even though the strap clip broke, the bag did not fall off my body - it was actually broken for a few days (during which time I was wearing it regularly) before I even noticed 5. Personally I have not found these strap clips to come apart with minimal pressure but conversely to be annoyingly fiddly to actually get detached. 6. Nonetheless because the strap clip broke on me I find myself a bit distrustful of these clasps (which I've never seen used on any other bag before/since) - I was very happy to see that the recently released Carryology Chimera variant of this bag eschewed these silly clasps for a much more robust attachment system.

I got a question that might be an idea for a video. I need a stylish salaryman bag recommendation. I know in Japan anything goes with a suit, but but I wouldn't wat to just get a normal backpack, something more stylish would be nice (and being foreign I think I have more leeway to use something that stands out a bit more). At the same time I'm discarting briefcases and messengers because I would like to use a backpack when business traveling (for 1 day trips or as a secondary backpack with a roller) and I use a bicycle to go to work. Laptop compartment and some space to fit a bento (12cm width) would be nice. I have been eyeing the Bellroy Via Workpack but the space for the bento might be too tight. Transit workpack line maybe? Any recommendation that you would think would look "professional"?

@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 3 месяца назад
Hi @mageroman - great question! Unfortunately I did not test this particular sling for water resistance as it's not one of its advertised features. That said, I would feel relatively confident in saying that this sling won't have particularly high water resistance. I base that both on the materials (which is not waterproof, will absorb water and quickly wet through), lack of taped seams or zipper flaps, and the reversed non-water resistant zippers (the reversed construction means they'll soak through even more quickly). Now of course, that doesn't mean it'll immediately get soaked - if you're just dashing from a car to your front door during a rainstorm or just outside for a few minutes in a light sprinkling you should be fine - but if you're planning to be routinely walking around in heavy storms or deluges etc. you'll want to consider a more water-resistant option. I hope this helps!

@TheMountainborn
@TheMountainborn 3 месяца назад
Hi @adko.5586 ! In this video I am wearing the James Brand x Timex Expedition North Titanium. (There's been three different TJB x Timex collabs to date, this is the original v1 version with the black dial). It's an automatic, based on the Timex Expedition North series but with some really lovely touches like a titanium frame and strap retainer, a display case back (a welcome surprise, even with the nato strap), the signature TJB pop of green on the crown and stylized arrowhead logo on the caseback and as you mentioned, a lovely (for the price) nato strap. It was originally released back in 2021 (I think?) for about $349 - a pretty reasonable price in my opinion, though they quickly sold out. I briefly mentioned this watch as an exemplar of what I consider a very well executed collaboration (a better-than-sum-of-its-parts product featuring excellent design, good blending of both brand's strengths, and relatively good value for the money despite its limited production) during my review of the TJB x Roark Road Kit (the latter of which I consider an example of how *not* to do a collab - a cheap money-grab Aliexpress rebrand that fails to deliver on virtually all fronts) TJB x Timex later released a white dial version which lost some of the charm of the original IMO - gone was the nato strap and the titanium strap retainers, replaced by a standard designed light grey (and easily stained) strap (at least the pin buckle was still in titanium) and the white dial seemed to lack some of the "pop" of the original v1. There later was a third collaboration released that was based off of the Timex Ironman model of watch in an utterly garish and repulsive color scheme that maybe must have been right for some people in this world but probably not for most considering it lingered around for months after it initially dropped unlike the other two versions that sold out in the same day. Anyway, if you want to read more about the watch I am wearing in this video, you can find more info here: wornandwound.com/introducing-the-james-brand-x-timex-expedition-north-titanium/ www.ablogtowatch.com/watch-review-interview-timex-expedition-north-the-james/ Prices on eBay etc. are a bit ridiculous these days for what is in effect a well-designed but otherwise unremarkable field watch with a bog standard Miyota movement, but if you look hard enough on the EDC type forums you might be able to find one for sale for a more reasonable price. Otherwise, you can always look at something like the Seiko 5 Sport (SRPG37K1) which is another field watch with a *very* similar design, color (albeit in brushed steel rather than titanium) and is easily available for ≈$200 USD. Hope this helps!

Hi @erwinmendoza7658 ! You can order this off of the evergoods website (evergoods.us) - you can also use third party retailers such as suburban.com.hk/ etc. Happy hunting!

Basically good review, but all the cons are based for carrying stuff most slings - by definition-- are not geared for... love my X-Pac version

Hi @mkphilly - thanks for the kind words! Regarding the cons being mainly around carrying things most slings are not geared for... normally I would agree with you, however in the case of the Day Sling 3 Max, it is *specifically* designed to carry things such an iPad Pro with a keyboard case, small camera and/or water bottle - you can confirm this by looking at the product photos and details listed on the official product page. (Maybe the only thing I think I mentioned that wasn't specifically in the product pages was the larger folding headphones which is fair enough - IIRC I think I mentioned that because someone in a comment on another review somewhere was asking about slings that could carry a folded set of over ear headphones). I believe it's these use cases that partially motivated the creation and design of the Max version - especially since the "standard" Day Sling 3 is already quite a capacious and capable sling. Overall I was (and still am) a fan of this bag though - it's still one of my main go-tos when I want to carry an iPad Pro and some EDC gear!

a water bottle in the main compartment will make the side pockets useless because what ever inside those will be squished and eventually will pop out. on the other hand, I like that there're no elastic stuff because those are the eventual breaking point.

there is simply no main compartment in this bag look at it this way, there are only an admin panel and a laptop sleeve. but i got this pack anyway for my uses still, it'd be a much better pack if it were at 24L, dont mind ditching some of these bottom dual pockets. and no, city pack pro isn't a pro version of this pack with that admin section and removal of the back contour.

@@TheMountainborn yep i did! One question if you can answer; if put in the same pocket with a phone is it possible the aviator wallet to scratch the phone.?if you had any experience of this issue….
@TheMountainborn

Hello again! Unfortunately yes, that is one of the disadvantages of this wallet - I think I briefly mentioned it in my review but being made of metal and fairly thick it could definitely potentially scratch any delicate items (including a phone) if it's in the same pocket or compartment as it and has some space to move around a bit. If you're looking for a low profile wallet to carry in the same pocket as a phone that won't damage it, I might suggest something like the Bellroy Apex wallet (my top choice and main wallet these days). The only disadvantage of the Apex wallet is that it doesn't have any capacity to carry coins or small things like keys etc. If you want a soft-sided, relatively low profile wallet that also can carry a few coins or keys, something like the RE:FORM RE:01 Coin Sleeve Wallet could be a good choice to consider as well (though slightly larger than the Aviator in terms of footprint). Anyway I hope this helps!

Other bags to consider was shot without thinking of those, who might want to consider it. The one for $600 the author pronounce in a way - one would never figure out what was said. It is an interesting alternative, but I learned English as a second language and my listening practice was actually perfect to me until now. I could not get a shit out of what he is mumbling there! That brings a lot of frustration. Ok, you don't want to pronounce brand names distinctively, wouldn't it be nice to list all the items' brand names in comment below? Wouldn't it be a little bit more professional to provide a link to you own review for the pack under consideration? :) Well, I'm writing it after some time... It occurred to me that I can turn on subtitles... Though even there not all the wording is correct, though it allows to figure out the name of the $600 pack/ :) Rofmia Shift Daypack V2, for Christ sake! ))

Hi @user-jw7wh5vx1s - First of all, you have my admiration as a learner of English as a second language - your written communication is excellent. As someone who learned English as a second language himself, I understand how difficult it is to master - great job! Secondly, my apologies for being unclear on the pronunciation of the bag name. Rofmia is a fairly well-known brand in certain circles, especially amongst the type of people who tend to view my videos and I probably did not take sufficient care to enunciate the name clearly enough for people who might not be as familiar. I'll try to be more careful in the future. Regarding not writing down the names of the products mentioned in this review - I made this review video several years ago so it is quite old. In more recent videos I usually list some of the bags and products I mention in the videos either in screen text overlays or in the video description. I don't usually write down all the details etc. in the video description however, as unlike some other review channels I do this as a hobby and don't usually participate in any kind of affiliate links etc. so it's always a balance between the annoyance of having to write out a long detailed text explanation or just just posting a video and then going on traveling and living my life ;). But if/when people ask for clarification in comments I usually try my best to answer so if there's anything else you want to know that I featured in the video just let me know. Oh and in case you haven't found it yet, here is the link to my review of the Rofmia Shift Daypack v2. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3WKLvjI6LnU.html
