Thanks for the advice! I recently reached my 1yr mark and semi-chopped 2 weeks ago and i notice a HUGE difference with my hair loss/shedding. My ends were very broken and bone straight and getting rid of it all was like a breath of fresh air. My hair is amazing at holding moisture and shine, but i will occasionally try different methods just to see what will work best. Your hair is gorgeous by the way =)

In the days before relaxing, my hair was never that loose! My hair was the picture of shrinkage. No curl, just naps! If I had your grade of hair, I would go natural in a heartbeat ! 55 now and thinning !

Hi Linda, thanks for your kind words. I do feel that healthy hair is a good grade of hair, but I do get what you are saying. Have you considered transitioning to natural? There is A LOT of info on how to proper care for our hair. My mindset was just like yours...natural is not for me...until I learned how to care for my hair. Best of luck and please keep me updated.

Ju Nae' Glover thanks so much hun! Yes the two textures can be a hassle, but I really can't complain because I'm so happy I made the choice to see my natural hair (relaxed since 11 y.o). Your channel looks nice, congrats on the BC!

You're definitely in the 3's, gorgeous hair! but that's a terrible hair chart, I do agree with you about hair porosity and health of the hair being more important.

Your hair is gonna be gorge! The only advice I would say, is that, take your time with big chopping. Go strand by strand if necessary. I hate it when people big chop in 3 cuts. Looks almost military-ish. Congratulations. I already know your hair is gonna look great and it's about to take off (growing wise)

feliseebabee thanks so much lady. When I watch some big chop vids I see a lot of new growth being cut off. Not sure why if they want it even or if they just got tired or did not realize it. Getting really anxious. But still trying to hold out for more length.

Yay! How exciting :) What area did you mini chop? I enjoyed my mini chop area mainly because the damage / relaxed areas was gone and I could see my healthy natural hair.

+Ladynefertiti Bk you are sooo right. Lol, I find myself trimming every style session (twice a week, lol). I'm excited for your journey, before you know it you may be going thru this phase as well! I will say before I BC I will definitely have a styler on deck.

Brianna Bradford I know what you mean, but it gets better. Before I BC I didn't know what to do with this area but now I realize it curls very well with proper technique. Im just a week in *lol* but I have found a nice way to encourage it to curl. In the process of learning but will share in my next video. Thx for watching :)

+LoveYouSomeLisa I never knew why this area was sooo damaged and short. So I made the decision to just get rid of it. The more I trim the more I get comfortable with cutting the rest off. But as I started on my hair journey I gained a lot of knowledge. Still learning.

Carmen Lewis you should try working in sections. Maybe 4 sections. Also try V05 conditioner it has great slip to help detangle your hair. Hth

That texture chart is wrong because im 4a and it looks nothing like that you should use another chart. I think your a combination of 3 and 4s.

im a mixture between 3b and 3c 😃 but im on my transition journey. im almost there. im doing a big chop soon. and im kind of nervous. . do you have any hair products that i should use? and styling tips??

Hey Ninah! Yes, I do. I recommend VO5 conditioner for your BC. This helped me detangle AND popped my curls. This is necessary to see where your relaxed hair begins when you big chop. Transitioning styles: buns with bangs, braid n curl, flexirods (my fav). Now, for styling after BC I recommend Shea moisture curl n style MILK. This helps curls to form & decreases frizz. And lastly a gel. I'm loving super wet (blue or clear) to clump and define without hardness if you plan on doing wngs. Checkout my latest video...a picture of these products are all there. omg i have the same problem at my crown area and i thought the same thing, over relaxing damaged my follicle. its tge shortest area on my head and has no real curl pattern.

do u have to chop the straight ends of right away or can people grow them out so that their hair is not looking short?

No, you do not need to cut the straight ends until you are ready to. I have a lot of videos on my channel with transitioning hair styles and routines to help/encourage you as you transition back to natural. I did not chop it off until I was 19 months post relaxer. I transitioned for about 19 months (I just stopped relaxing until my hair grew out a little). Then I big chopped (transition chop). TFW!

Rasheeah Foster if you don't feel comfortable big chopping right now, I suggest to continue deep conditioning once a week and do buns, twists, braids. I transition chopped my bangs before the rest of my hair. And I did trim at least once a month (about an inch of relaxed hair).

cameallyj I deep condition twice a week and condition everyday I don't do twist or braids by the way I'm biracial I shall add I been doing my routines for about 2 years with no change I used to dye it a lot and my mom permed it a lot since I was 10 till I was 17 and had control over my hair

Rasheeah Foster If you want to keep length but get rid of the damage then you can trim monthly. As your hair grows, trim off the damage. I used to dc twice a week also ☺. keep me updated on what you decide.
