It has now been over 18 months since I underwent RNY Gastric Bypass surgery and I wanted to update you on how my journey has been going. Of course, I was so focused on the update side of things that I forgot to film an intro. Ah well, such is life, right?
I hope you enjoy the "get ready with me" style of these videos. I prefer to film these in this manner so that there's something for those who are more interested in weight loss information and for those who enjoy makeup.

Sorry for the abrupt start to the video. Just view it as further proof that I am NOT a perfectionist. :) Also, please do not take the inclusion of the frozen meal recommendations as my endorsement of processed foods above whole foods. I included these because my reality requires quick meal options and I figure there are other people in that same boat too. I, personally, would rather have a frozen meal for lunch at the office than order delivery or head to the nearest drive-thru. There are certainly healthy options to be found at restaurants but there is a lot of temptation for unhealthy options and, for me, it simply avoids having to exercise restraint if I take my lunch to work, even if it is processed. Frozen meals are also more cost-effective.

I bring protein bars and apples with me in my purse for that very reason! It's so hard to stick to a diet eating out. Also, I'm disabled so I don't work, so I don't have to bring meals with me. That would be much harder!

I don’t usually consume weight loss content since it tends to be somewhat triggering to me, even more so lately as I’ve been in a bad time of life, but I trusted you to speak of it. I love the honesty that transpires throughout the video and I could handle it for what it is, which is the raw expression of a life experience that is rich in emotion and work. I’m amazed by the strength you’ve been showing in changing your life for something that makes you happy. We don’t know each other, but I’m proud of you. Wish you all the best in your journey 💜

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a challenging time. I hope things turn around for you soon. I never want to trigger anyone with my content but I know how sensitive of a topic weight is. I promise to never get on here and tell people what to do, shame them for making the choices they are, or share some inane shit-inducing tea. Part of the reason I feel uncomfortable doing "what I eat in a day" videos is that I eat fewer calories than what is recommended for non-bariatric patients because of the nature of my surgery. I don't want people who haven't had their stomach reduced to the size of an egg to think my diet is what they should be following. Also, I find that sharing that kind of content often leads to nasty comments and I'd rather not deal with blood pressure issues. Thank you so much for your kind words. You have no idea how much your support and kindness mean to me. ♥♥

@@KaraChapman I think this is what I appreciate the most about the video. I’ve never knew much about gastric bypass and what it implied afterwards for those who went through it. It’s so interesting to see you undertake such a tough journey and allowing you to grow with self-love, kindness towards yourself and an emotional evolution. I think this is something that is relatable to everyone in life or at least it is to me as I’m evolving through depression and severe anxiety. Also, the comment about the burger earrings hit me the hardest somehow. My personal experience is the total opposite and yet exactly the same. I adore vegetables to the point that I very often eats green salad with no dressing or just fresh lemon and pepper because I want to enjoy the taste of lettuce (yeah, I swear it taste something!) and I was told more than once « that I shouldn’t force myself to eat only that and I should learn to be ok with weight » and those comments were pretty much telling « fat people eat salad ». So yeah... at the end of the day, people should just start caring more about what they do and be happy and supporting people in their happiness. I will definitely support every video from your journey because I live your approach in the subject and I will always be glad to support someone who works for their well-being. You are amazing, congratulations on all the accomplishments you’ve made, it’s truly inspiring ❤️

One of my favorite foods has always been maple donuts. One night my husband bought me a box of the best kind and I was munching on them and all of a sudden I had the most horrific stomach pain. I thought I was dying even though I was pretty sure it was my gallbladder, which it was, along with pancreatitis. So many thoughts! Intro: hilarious Bagels: timmies drive through will kill us all Dieting: I’ve only barely dabbled with weight loss and I messed me up, so I’d rather live in my fat body than develop a disordered relationship with it. Why fuck things up at 38? 😂 Being fat: I’m 5’2” and 220lbs, which means my BMI is 40.3 and I JUST qualify as fat enough to get a vaccine in phase 2. It the one time being fat will benefit me with a doctor, so I’m taking it. I’m an active part of the fat sewing community online and it’s been the hugest help over the last decade to see normal bodies of all sizes every day on social media. As a result I feel better about myself at size 22 than I did at size 12. Thanks for sharing your journey - so glad you found the right path for you!

Damned Timmies. Cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with cream cheese was my jam (used to be blueberry bagels but they got rid of them). You have a very healthy perspective and I'm so glad that you have a community which has been so helpful for you. Feeling good in your own skin is so important and is one of the things that I'm so grateful for now. I'm a size 14, I have a spare tire, and my thighs jiggle, but damned if I don't feel healthier and happier now than I did while 40 pounds less in high school.

A Mac Donald's ad played during this video, soon followed by a sportwear one... that's pretty ironic. XD I noticed that for the first time in my life last year when I was completely blocked at home and forced to stay sedentary... I didn't gain weight. I actually lost it. During the lockdown in Italy I lost weight because 1) no shops like for bubble tea, vietnamese, chinese, japanese or kebab were open 2) I felt too sad and bummed out to feel hungry 3) I literally knocked myself out through declutters, reorganizations and gardening. Now I just have to be careful because now I got a job which forces me to stay at a computer for many hours and I don't want to return gaining weight like it happened during the last years of university. Keeping my fingers crossed 0.o

Bagel thins are pretty good. I've switched from bagels to whole grain English muffins. Low calorie and fiber dense, as well as a decent source of protein. And honestly, at this point I find them just as good. I know you don't miss carbs much, but I've noticed as I'm trying to lose weight that they're are a lot of healthy alternatives to regular bread and pasta. I'm sure you know that. I'm just rambling. My go to meal has been roasted cauliflower (with a literal TON of nutritional yeast, then s&p, a little avocado oil, garlic, garlic powder, and onion powder) and then some sticky white rice with a little soy sauce. But im a vegetarian, so my meals look different than normal people. But ive been counting calories and allowing myself to eat what I want, BUT in doing that, ive found I can eat a lot more if it's healthy food, so I've just been eating healthy for the most part, but I'll allow myself to have my favorite protein donuts (from Pro Dough Bakery!) Or some Halo Top mint chocolate chip ice cream if I have a killer sweet tooth. Also, the Smart Sweets peach rings are great, but oh so expensive🤣🤣

I've found that if you put garlic and seasonings on them, and roast the veggies, they seem to be liked more by people. I had surgery 4 months after you and I have I have stopped losing as well. As you I go up and down the 5lbs. Unlike you I can eat pretty much anything except ice cream and spaghetti. Now I don’t go over board but everything in moderation. I feel like I would like to lose another 30lbs but not putting any pressure on myself.

I think being gentle with ourselves is so important. Our bodies have gone through so much and they need time to recalibrate and adjust. With food, I'm very hit or miss. Some days I can eat a volume that convinces me I've stretched my pouch out and then the next, I'm back to being full after just a few bites. I'm working at listening to my body and stopping when I start to feel full. The surgery has given me the tools I need to be able to do that.

I really enjoyed this. I have lost about 50 pounds and now I am going up and down 3 pounds. I would love to lose another 20 pounds before my bilateral knee replacements. I can’t imagine how immobile I would be if I had not lost the weight.
@KaraChapman

Wishing you the best with your knee replacements! I suspect I'll need my right knee done at some point just based on the awful crunching sound it makes when I bend it but I rarely experience pain in it anymore. I also had the start of osteoarthritis in my right hip prior to surgery and the pain has been alleviated there as well (it used to keep me up at night and I do NOT miss the pain one bit). Congratulations on your success!!!

And I weight myself in the early mornings, after using the bathroom and with not much clothes... no excuses at least like 'wait let me take my earrings, they are heavy' XD But I don't weight myself since years. I don't want to be obsessed over numbers, I use more subjective methods to know what is going on with my body: how fast my snacks are running out? Are my upper thighs touching? Is my skin getting breakouts because of sugar or oily food? Are my clothes still a bit loose? Stuff like that.

Sooooo.....I used to be THAT person that everyone hates: I was between 135 and 140lbs all the time with very little thought, and ate everything I wanted. (Everything I wanted includes mostly carbs.) I wasn't "tiny," but my Mom used to tell me all the time that I was "too thin." (I'm on the tall side, at 5'7") ANYWAY, after I passed 40 I put on a bit of weight, and went from a size 6 or 8 to a 10 or 12. Admittedly I was less active at that time than I'd always been and hadn't changed my eating habits. This went on for a few years, culminating in my weighing in at about 185 when 2020 hit. It hit like a carb-loaded brick. Yes, I eat my feelings, and my inability to work for a full year tasted delicious. I've topped out at around 220, none of my clothes fit me, I get winded easily. My self-image inside my head is WAY different from what I am shocked to see in the mirror and I don't like it. I agree completely about avoiding processed foods, and I've been trying to stick to that as well as getting my butt out for some good long walks now that the weather has warmed up. I've also dragged out my exercise bike to use in the evenings, plus I've just gotten a mountain bike that I plan to get out to the park for a bit of extra exercise and fresh air. I love to hear you talk about your journey, and find it inspiring. Thank you for sharing!!!!

Sounds like you have a good plan in place for getting back to a place that is comfortable and healthy for you. I'm so glad that the weather is finally starting to warm up again. In a few short months, though, I'll be complaining about the damned humidity but for now I'll enjoy! When I watch my older videos back, I'm shocked at how breathless I sound in some of them. Just the act of speaking winded me. Being able to wear smaller clothes is certainly amazing, however, it's the increased health that I'm the most grateful for.

I can eat 2 slices of pizza and then I'm full. I thought I'd miss being able to eat 8-10 slices but I don't at all. Pasta is more hit and miss for me.
