Canada has so much better healthcare than the US. I spent 23 days in the ICU after a brain aneurysm rupture in my right frontal lobe. That and 2 brain surgeries totaled over $7.2M. The nurses over drugged me and tried to put me in a MRI twice (would have killed me as I have a metal clip in the middle of my brain). The bed I was in (barely a cot) totalled $997k for those 23 days. Ugh. We need to fix our healthcare system here. Sorry for the rant. Thank you for sharing your story! You are an inspiration 💛
@KaraChapman
@KaraChapman 5 лет назад
$7.2M?!?!?! That's insane!! It blows my mind that the US has for profit hospitals. That's just not a thing here in Canada. You can pay to have weight loss surgery done at a private clinic (I don't think they do bypass, only sleeve surgery) and it costs about $17-20k. Our government will even pay for excess skin removal surgery if certain criteria are met. I don't know how Americans pay for their health care, especially if they dont have insurance. I really dont understand the system.

Did you pay the 7.2 million?

The phrase, "calm down" is the worst thing to say to someone when you actually want them to calm down, IMO. Makes me instantly pissed off, which just adds to the problem. When someone tells me to calm down, I start thinking about how punchable their face looks. Your family is so sweet. 💗 I'm so glad you have the surgery behind you, and can't wait to see what great things life has in store for you!! 💗💐💗💐💗
@KaraChapman

"Calm down" is 100% the equivalent of "punch me". And, believe me, I was tempted. 🤜

That first week is quite a ride. In case you don't see other videos of mine: be forewarned that it is very common to stall around Week 3. I didn't know and freaked the hell out about it. Apparently it happens to most people so if it happens to you, just remember that you are not failing!! I hope you are recovering well. ♥

They gave you children Tylenol because you can no longer take any kind of NSAID’s again. You’ve reaffirmed my decision to have the surgery too. I was dealing with mixed emotions from everyone offering an opinion even when not asked.😒 But listening to you has brought me back to why I need this to happen. So thank you Kari. You are an amazing inspiration to me❤️
@puddintanejingleheimerschm9389
That doesn't explain children's tylenol vs adult tylenol. It is likely because they don't want you to take pills larger than a pencil eraser. Children's tylenol is chewable. Other medications like blood pressure meds I have to cut in half. Also my doctor told me if I have super bad cramps she said I could try ibuprofen but not very often at all and told me to be aware about stomach upset and acid reflux. I'm a month and a half post op.

You are looking good! You do look happier, for sure! I am loving how your eye look is coming out. You so deserve it to get flowers from Shane. I'm happy for you! Looking forward to seeing your journey! I may have already mentioned this in previous comments but statistically people who have long term success after surgery are those who participate in support groups. You go GIRL!!!!

It was about 10 mins until my next obvs visit from the nurse so we agreed to take a nap because I was so sleepy and he was really tired too. 3 obvs visits later he was still asleep snoring his head off. Blessings and a quick recovery! You look great and I'm so happy it all went smoothly; wishing all the best along with the best of health, and that soon-to-come all new wardrobe. Can we just say, "SHOPPING SPREE!?" BTW, I can't stand the massive egos of "health professionals," they DON'T listen to the patient because "I know better what your symptoms are, and your problem really is anxiety, GERD, allergies, ...." blah, blah, blah. Yes, you are lucky to have the healthcare you have, as I can't afford my U.S. based worthless insurance that pays for NOTHING, and have now gone through a REAL year of suffering, with unresolved symptoms, paying out of my savings account for worthless "doctor's" visits. They won't touch you, have zero empathy, but take all your money. How many times do you have to say that the problem is deeper than superficial, and you can't diagnose me by telling me to say AHHH? My sister in law was almost killed by the heartless neglect of our greedy system. Let's just say that she was walking around with a potentially deadly abdominal condition, for which her clinic kept dismissing symptoms and throwing antibiotics at. When she finally got to see a "specialist," he nearly dismissed her too, but got curious enough to do a scan. When he saw the truth in front of him, he was shocked and scheduled emergency surgery. Per his instructions, she was in ICU for a week. That's how serious it was, and everyone dismissed her as she suffered in constant pain, with her literal life in danger. Sorry this turned into a rant, but I truly need a caring, concerned professional to give me the proper examination, as well as most likely, imaging test(s). I can only imagine how many people are killed yearly in our country by narcissistic, may I say "sociopathic," greedy medical professionals due to negligence, etc. Just don't want to be another statistic. You know?

Hello! I just found your channel recently, and am working my way through your videos in order. Are you able to speak about the process prior to your surgery and prior to your liquid fast? I have been referred to a bariatric clinic (in Canada) and am awaiting more news/appointments. I am wondering what happens before they decide whether you are a good candidate or not. I have filled out the multi-page questionnaire and I know that there are appointments with the surgeon, dietician, psychologist etc. possibly in the future?? When, I have no idea. What was THAT preliminary process like? We’re you worried that they would NOT accept you? I’m very interested in your journey and commend you for being so open and honest about what you have been through. What was the length of time from referral to surgery? I realize post (or during) Covid the process will most likely be very different, but if I could get a better idea of what lies ahead (pre-determination), I would appreciate it. I heard there may be a virtual group session?? 🤷‍♀️ I got the book “weight loss surgery for dummies”, and recommend it HIGHLY for anyone at the same stage that I am in! It answered a lot of my questions… yet some specific (Canada based) questions are still lingering. I apologize if I have missed some of these answers 😊 congratulations on your journey, and thanks again for sharing this with us all!

Hello dear. I’m an expat living alone in turkey and I just had the bypass five days ago. I’m not seeing any weight loss and I’m freaking out. Did you lose any yet? All these videos are saying you’re supposed to start dropping it ASAP? Please reply, I am so alone here I don’t speak the language, I am in much pain and have no energy to walk, I drink protein shakes and water only. @karac

When the nurses tried to shut the back of my gown so I wouldn't moon my mom and husband, I was tired enough and had a idgaf attitude that my response was "One already sees it, and the other made it. I don't care."

@@shugahcaine4137 I'm sorry to hear that. This is why I'm a huge supporter of people doing their own research about this procedure. It worked for me and my health has improved greatly, but that's only my experience. Not everyone is as lucky, unfortunately.
