"The Maid on the Shore"
Hi Friends: Welcome to a new episode of Luddites on Location in Northwest Wyoming.
As much as I love combining music with landscape, occasionally I’m chased indoors by weather. We love a good storm out here, but we don’t want to tempt the lightning.
Since we’ve had plenty of rain lately, it seems a small stretch to do a seafaring song, water being the common denominator. And what better place to sing this very satisfying and ever-timely English ballad than on the ranch cookhouse porch?
I set up in front of one of our hummingbird feeders, hoping to record action to go with the narrative. The hummers had other plans, which did not include dinner theatre.
Yesterday, they allowed me to capture a few moments of their enthralling movements. (Please note the repurposed face mask as feeder-hanger. So far, it’s held up for two weeks of wind, rain and hail.)
Frankie Armstrong was my source for “The Maid on the Shore”. I will always be a student of her singing. Take care, and thank you all so very much for listening.
