Vyacheslav, 18, from Ukraine's Donetsk region, became the guardian of four younger siblings after their mother was killed by a Russian shell and their house was completely destroyed. Hundreds have now offered to help the family after their story featured in a video by RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service.

Realistically, there really are millions of cases... in varying degrees of likeness to this... that we and the media would never get to know.... because it's just not possible, due to the sheer magnitude of the chaos, destruction, and deaths. Cases like his are broadcast when they're randomly found. It really is just a drop in a very big lake... of suffering in Ukraine and around the world.

This amazing young man needs support. He's a child himself, who has just watched his mother die, is grieving, and yet is also stepping up to care for his siblings. He's incredible, but he needs more than money - he needs a solid support system around him so that he can grieve and grow, too. I truly hope that someone over in Ukraine (it needs to be someone local, who knows the language and customs), someone trustworthy, can step up and act "in loco parentis", so that this lad has someone to talk to and to guide him through this unthinkable period ✊️💙💛✊️

I don't think you have to worry about his moral support. Eastern European are not the same like western world cultures. I am sure all the neighbours know him already and provide all the moral support he needs

@@HELLWARS101 Sadly, every culture has it's sharks... I agree that some areas have good communities, but he's been uprooted from the area he grew up in to the opposite side of his country, so he will have lost many of the connections that he would have previously relied on. He won't be near those neighbours he's known all his life, will have access to donated money, and be surrounded by people who are also in need and may not have his best interests at heart. That's my concern.

@@t-and-p you don't have to worry about it. Like I said Eastern Europeans help each other. You don't live in Eastern Europe and not know your neighbours. Even if you are in new neighbourhood, people will get to know each other very fast. My family and I spent some times moving from pla e to Ave when we immigrated from Eastern Europe and withing a very short time we all knew each other . You have to understand Eastern Europeans. They don't like to be alone. They love noisy parties with lots of music and dancing and big companies . It's not line in America when everyone is sitting in their apparentment and you have to make appointment to visit anyone . People there can visit others randomly and unannounced . You probably didn't understand it , because you have to be born into that culture to understand

I think that goes for a whole lot of older people as well, Vyacheslav is certainly a young man with his head turned on right, but then again, he hardly has been given the choice. You don't know what you would do, were you is a similar situation, probably the same because there really isn't a choice here, is there? So, maybe, try to remember there's nothing wrong with being just an average 18 year old. I'm sure Vyacheslav would want to be that, if it were only possible. What really matters is that when the situation calls for it, any situation, you do the right and responsible thing. That's a universal truth, take it for what it's worth.

Right? Especially when his siblings his puberty. Especially the girls. He’s going to have to teach them about their bodies. Something his mom should have been there to teach. When his brothers go for a job interview or get married he’s going to have to teach them how to tie a tie. All these sad milestones that he will be taking over. It’s also just so sad that he has to start being so mature. With the money of how he said that the finances will be so expensive. So so sad. But also sad that he said that he can’t cry. Most likely staying strong for his other children. Almost like when a married couple become widowed suddenly and the single parent tries to stay strong for the kids. Same thing going on here. He’s the one giving his siblings the hugs and the shoulder to cry on. That he feels like they will start crying if he starts letting himself be emotional

This is the second interview I saw with him and his siblings and their situation. He is a strong young man, what touched me was that they were given an opportunity to leave the Ukraine and he opted to stay.... this our my country, our home ..... stay strong and bless

This is the what a man should do in this case. Not a 18 year old boy. This young man deserves donations that don't stop till he is 21. We must carry him through. He deserves this at minimum. Nobody should have to go through this alone. If we do this for him he can save his work money till he turns 21. Then he will have this money to keep his family together and maybe start a business to support them all. War has no place in today's world. We must never choose war over peace. Love is the only way to paradise. We should take note of this fact and help a stranger today.

Poor kiddos, I'm so proud of this young lad, all he cared about was keeping his siblings together and safe. It is better to donate to an aid organization for children in need. Early on he opened a paypal for those who could help, but he closed it after scammers started impersonating him and taking people’s money. While some of it is gonna get lost to overhead in an aid organization, you don’t need to worry about the money not going to the kids who need it, even if it may not be that specific kid. If in doubt about who donate to, UNICEF usually posts the most reliable and immediately useful aid groups on their website.

You can tell these children were raised by an amazing woman, and even though he’s still a kid himself, I can see that he’s the best big brother ever. My heart cannot take this. This is what happens when people sleepwalk into hatred or apathy - good people die, and the most innocent among us are the ones who suffer. Meanwhile in France the donations for all kinds of help for Ukrainians dropped dramatically, because somehow, due to a source or sources of information unknown to me, the popular belief recently planted into French people's minds is that Ukraine has already received everything it needs and its people don't require any further aid. Bless this boy, he's a true hero too.

It is not so easy to raise four child at a young age, unlucky to him, he has to go through this Sad and devastating situation since his mother was a victim of the said conflict😔it's hard but he needs to be strong and continue life now that he's the only hope to his younger siblings☺️❤️I wish he may find happiness and peace of mind. Godbless you dear and keep on fighting surely your mother would be proud of you❤️🙏.
