I believe counterfeiting started 1 hour after the first coin was minted. Thanks for the great video Daniel. I did not know about the electrotypes. Very interesting and informative.
I was in the British Museum looking at ancient fake coins a few months ago. This kind of thing as been going on ever since the concept of money was developed
I have a fake 1804. Someone gave it to me after they found out it was fake. I googled 1804 dollars and there it was, pictured among other fake 1804 s. It looks silver but never had it checked.
Another fun fact. Most likely there were draped bust dollars struck in 1804. But they had the 1803 date. It was standard procedure back then to use dies till the wore out.
Super video. You do these really well. Faked, counterfeit, cleaned altered all make me scared to purchase stuff. I just dont have the knowledge. Now I need to find my 1804 caped bust liberty in storage and I have a date late with Morgan Fairchild, yeah....a date that's the ticket.
In the past people counterfeited coins. In modern times they counterfeit coin holders. In the future they will probably counterfeit bitcoin (if they aren’t already)
Not really counterfeit it so much as scam people out of Bitcoin I saw multiple large Twitter accounts get hacked and the hackers advertised scams of Bitcoin
A few months ago I saw information on a website that promoted that they could "reproduce ANY coin or round to YOUR specification." Scary. If a person is buying a MIRACLE coin for a MIRACLE price alarm bells should ring loud and clear. BUT, I did not know about this coin in your video. Thanks for enlightening us.
Great information Daniel, its becoming a normal thing with all your videos. Super educational, super informational. Stellar video. I've seen you do a shout out before and wondering what would I have to do in order to get one from you. I know you're a super busy man owning/opersting a coin shop and doing all these great videos so if you cant do it I wont be mad at ya lol. Still will love your videos and continue watching them. Either way Daniel thanks a ton for all you do!
Thank you. I rarely do shout outs, because I don't have time to watch many videos to see if they fit for me or ring true. Also they don't help a lot in the scheme of things. I have coin opp give me a shout out and got some subs but my subs are built by my content and how I optimize each video and thumb nail.
@@CoinHELPu I understand Daniel, 100% no worries. I just figured it couldnt hurt to ask, worst case scenario you tell me no lol. I know you are busy, you have to be with everything you do, especially with all the videos you have been posting, all educational in some way or another and I just love your content. Would be cool if you had time to check out some of my videos. The few I have are relatively short, all are under 4 or 5 minutes I believe. I do have another question for you though. If you had a 1986 $5 gold eagle(I think that's what it's called, but it is the $5 coin) first year of issue slabbed in a NGC holder graded ms70, what would you sell it for?
I have been verifying that there are more patterns of this type of coins which I thought were copies or fake but I see that it is not like that. the Americans themselves are unaware of these facts since the story is real when the first ones were made, quite a few people from Europe were taken as souvenirs at that time until Ireland came Great Britain Brazil Cuba because I followed threads of people who have this type of pieces I have the A book that also describes the history of some coins and patterns, even in United Kingdom, I saw in an online antique store a Morgan Dollar made of copper from 1870, I already have it in my hands and it is indeed a great piece and the one from 1794 all the characteristics of the first currency symbols on the edge of the 1794 coin we cannot say that they are false because we do not know the whole truth yet of what there are copies, it may be that if for some coins that I imagine they do not have the measurements and the weight adequate but until today. I have already discovered between 5 to 9 different pieces including the one I have and I don't sell it, maybe I can certify. But it is a very valuable piece and because of the way it is, it may be that it is the first coin minted of all those that are known already auctioned, nor the piece that is worth 10 million dollars today has the same design, this looks more complete the eagle
Thanks as always, Daniel. Very interesting sir. I have never understood the handful of “thumbs down” some bozos seem to put on most of your fantastic videos. What the heck is that?
I just found among some coins that I was given as an inheritance, an 1804 "proof" coin that says it is a copy, it has all the characteristics of being a good coin, could I send you a photo to see if it is genuine? Thanks, I'm in Mexico City
@@CoinHELPu Not so fast I was gifted one as well in around the late 1970s and it came in a royal blue velvet cloth over a steel case with an adjoining letter inside with a full-color American Flag print on the front side.. The coin looks stunningly precise and beautiful with the Obverse side facing outward. It weighs 16.3 grams on my scale. The only exception to the appearance of the coin is when you turn to the reverse side which also is quick to please and equally precise and true in its every detail but there it is. An engraving in the central location and set in the top horizontal portion of the shield and just below the motto. This is where you will see the well-blended lettering of the word COPY. It is printed once only there on the reverse side while leaving the obverse side looking outward and ideal. I've enjoyed owning this particular coin for a very long time now and has its place and staying in my collection Getting back with a closing mention to the accompanying letter, there is a complete story and historical insight along with an appointed 4 digit number of authenticity. The last paragraph of the letter reads as follows, This extraordinary rarity has been painstakingly reproduced. The exacting detail of its original design has been faithfully preserved, and its rich intricate artistry recaptures the excitement of the original 1804 Dollars, so highly sought the world over.
G L,,, of Mexico City,...Your story is close in nature to mine. Do you know this saying? One man's junk is another man's treasure! Since there is zero possibility of ever owning an original, I see nothing wrong in owning the next best thing. A high-quality genuine COPY from a reputable Company like Franklin Mint is quite fine.
Daniel, just a suggestion for another video. Are there other legitimate copies done by the US Mint on other coins? Is there a list somewhere? We learn something new & interesting from you every day.
I need some guidance on some coins that have came into my possession. 1794 and here 4 sisters . They weigh correctly edge markings exact . Please I can send pics this could be massive . Idk what to do from here .
I have an 1803 half dollar and an 1805 half dollar. If I add them together and average the dates, that's as close to an 1804 dollar as I'll ever get. :)
I'd like to buy a bunch of good fake coins 4a decoy in a 2nd. safe in the open in my house while another safe is well hidden, what's your take on doing this???
i have been studying these- these 1804 were made in 4 stages, mostly around 1820. one of those "segments" were done by a 3rd party. the mint checked them, recalled them and melted them. the rumor is that out of that 3rd party segment ,the coins were not being minted by a ethical company and some were taken out for personal use. We think the reason they recalled and melted them is because many were "underweight"-so, it is VERY possible that a few 1804's that were dismissed out of hand because they were slightly underweight, were actually REAL survivors.so, as we do more detective work and computers and websites gather more information from the past,we might find some of these "fakes" are real !
@@CoinHELPu i agree ,but wouldn't they dismiss the 1804 coin you bought in, if it had all the correct markings, but was underweight , even though it was uncirculated?
@@CoinHELPu to put if different, i i were a coin dealer, and some one bought one in- it looked perfect, but only weighed 25.9 grams instead of 26.7 and it was uncirculated, i would have told them it was a great looking fake, but it is fake because the weight is wrong-
@@mikeswiental4815 you're too hung up on weight. Plus none are going to coming a shop and look like a real one. They all look fake to me and I've seen thousands of fakes over the years.
Wow Daniel, now China will be making fake copies of legit copies. I was burned once by a Chinese-made 20¢ piece. So only 4 legit copies were made by the US Mint? In Phily? In 1860? Anything special at the US Mint happen in 1860 for these to be made?
Well I found a large and a small 1804 Drape bust I use the micrometer micrometer and measured a millimeter which came out to 39 mm the weight with a gram and a half off every store every line in the center of the eagle every learning of states in relation with the clowns lines out I found this I found a coin and very old man’s grandfather’s collection which has extremely good in uncirculated Morgan and a lot of Egyptian gold goldI’m gonna take a picture if you think it’s not worth my time sending in let me know I don’t pay a lot like I said if it was fake I could have my money back everything about the way he handled it he had no idea what he was doing the condition it’s just so good that’s what scares me
Just wanna ask if there is a 1804 made from bronze or a brass it it considered fake , ,,usually whats the coin made from.thanks a lot for sharing hope you answered my question??
Hi am in the Virgin Islands st.croix we Don't have collectors over here ,I have a 1804 liberty sliver Dollar that I found it can you Give me some advice Thank you My name is David
Hi mate you're doing a great job, please have you ever heard about coin it's called Iceland summer? is from 16th century but even after that era they keept producing copies I believe I have one but I'm a bit confused about it which is the wild boar faces the opposite way of where it should be please can you help me with some info about it. many thanks
I am not interested, per the video, all 1804 dollars are in collections. Only 15 exists and no one else has one, so it's not authentic. People made a bunch of fakes.
Not you again. Just stop blaming everyone else and take your coins to the US Mint and they will tell you what's going on. Do it the right way and stop pointing fingers.
@@CoinHELPu The mint said that they are not a grading agency. and not a lot of info being given out under the freedom of information act. Not blaming anyone just thanking the haters for helping me get paid and the truth out of which it is coming out. It is certified and it is interesting and gets a lot of views without paying for spam. The 1st to see the coin were the most reputable error dealers and the largest graders in the country they saw it in Jan of 2001. So they have all known for a long time that its not circulated or counterfeit.
@@SacagaweaCoin I never said anything about the US Mint grading but telling you what transpired during the minting process to cause this to the coin. You're making a larger deal out this for some reason and you are spamming my comments with it all the time. So please stop.
