What an amazing roadside stop! This place also gives us an idea of how the people buried in the pioneer cemetery we visited must have lived. I love all the old buildings! I took my son there just about 2 months ago ... We live about 30 min away on the lake, we watch your videos all the time! Man, it would have been cool if I could have brought my little boy and do some exploring with you! Love your videos!! God bless
Fort Gaines is a VERY small fishing/farming/hunting town where everyone knows everyone and your mama. They’ve been there for many generations. If you go on the side road behind Hartford you’ll find more historical buildings. They give out maps explaining each location’s history. Every year, the weekend after Thanksgiving , there’s a big festival at this Pioneer Park called ‘Christmas at the Fort’. If you don’t live there you probably never heard of it. I worked there for years and lived in the next smaller town over, Georgetown. I still have friends there. That whole area of Georgia/Alabama is FULL of historical places like this little gem. Ask a local and they will direct you.
I'm Brazilian, but I really like that kind of thing! I wonder what life was like for the people of that time, thanks for sharing! Sorry if my English is bad, I'm learning...
It's just so sad that people vandalize and deface stuff. It's beautiful out there, but nowadays you have to be afraid by yourself out there. Beautiful videos.
Why do you have to be afraid out there by yourself?? No one really goes up there unless we have Christmas at the fort or people are there to view it ‼️ this post sounds so ignorant and racist due to the fact that the town is is mainly black people and barley whites. Smh
My great x4 grandmother was born in servitude in this area before it was Ft Gaines. It was the colomokee area.. Abner Augustus Averitt my great x5 grandfather was one of the first in the area. This is awesome dude love it
Out here in California with this shutdown. Just came across your site and watched this great history in these graveyards. Shows how short life is. Thanks for sharing, and you do a great job showing. I like this stuff.
I'm in northern CA. But Robert does an excellent job of finding and trying to clear overgrown areas of some cemeteries he comes across, not to mention the history lesson. 😄
Not just this generation... Every generation has some--i was born in '65 and every historical site I ever visited since a little kid has had such defacing... And even in Roman ruins show evidence of it happening 2000 years ago...
Thank you so much for this history lesson. I’ve visited the Fort (2005). My Mom & Dad is from Fort Gaines, GA I’ve always loved the smell of the wood you were talking about. Enjoyed your video; keep them coming. Stay Safe.
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING SOME OF US OUR HISTORY. WE LIVE TO FAR AWAY TO SEE IT IN PERSON. PLEASE KEEP UP WHAT YOU DO. GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU AND YOURS SAFE AND WELL.
I love this video & how you give a history lesson bout every place you visit. I'll live thru your videos since I can't go sightsee different places thank you & always be safe
Love this village. Maybe after your followers see this they will get out and visit it😊. We have a place in my hometown of Searcy, Arkansas that is called Pioneer Village, the local historical society manages it. It’s a beautiful place with many scheduled activities all year. They have a cabin, barn, wood shop, black smith, jail, general store and train depot, also a one room school house. All buildings are authentic and either date from 1800’s to 19teens. People in period costume gives tours and guided talks several times a year. And we are a little town of 20,000. Pardon me if I sound like I’m bragging, well maybe just a little. I love your love of history!
I’m so saddened that History was not something I enjoyed in school but now have such a love for it and feel bad for all the vandalism they goes on in it. This place was very cool, thank you so much for sharing !!
Back when no building codes. I like the simplicity of the structures. This place needs a gofundme page to get it tidied up and fixed. It is a lot of work to build a log cabin, ought to be taken care of in honor of the ones that built them.
That is such an awesome find. I love older log cabins. (well any log cabin really) For some reason Fort Gaines rings a bell from history I took a long time ago in school but I don't remember why. I will have to look up its history and see if I can jog my memory. That was a wonderful tour . Thank you. I love visiting the past. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤
Thanks for sharing with us your adventures! I just was shown your site yesterday...I say by my Ancestors!! 😀👍I'm into Genealogy Research, and a history buff so when things come to me out of the norm I find it's for a reason, and part of this Awakening Period we are in now where alot of the truths are starting to be revealed to us!! Continue to do great work!! 👍 Going back now to look at some of your old videos to see 👀 why I was sent your way, and what's new I can find on my research journey! 😀 Thanks again!!👍
Thanks Robert, what a cool place to have, it's one thing to try and visualise what a place used to look like but quite another to actually see it with your own eyes. Thank you for sharing this unique site. xx
thanks for the cool adventure Robert! so sad people feel the need to vandalize property I'll never understand why they do this. But at least these places were saved so future generations have a chance to see them.
We have a Fort Yargo here in Winder Ga. There was a Log Fort there once upon a time . Not sure if it's still there or not . It's a nice place to visit with your family . They have picnic areas , play ground , camping area , and fishing .
Looks like all the best comments have been written 😍 amazing some of those buildings standing. And those smells of the old houses I still remember the smell of my grandmother's house, that old dank smell that lingers. It wasn't bad it's just how it was 😅. My grandmother's house had a sandstone basement that set empty for many moons before they put a house on it 🤷♀️
Great find Robert was is a shame that people would ruin the old buildings with graffiti love how you find all these places and share them I would never know they exist. Thanks for sharing.
Still enjoying your vids Robert, just wish they were a bit Longer, but I know your time is limited too. I just enjoy your vids so much. Thanks Robert...👍👍😎
Thanks for posting this I live in Vt. And due to my disabilities I cannot travel to see these amazing parts of our History! I wish people would not deface things it’s purely stupid and this is not a bathroom it’s part of our history and should be respected. Here in Vt. We have the Shelburne Museum and they have preserved much of our history. My Grandfather worked on the Webb estate that donated allot of the items at the museum, to have a job there must have been interesting to say the least! Be safe!

I'm so glad you tour Georgia's past history. I love these old places and being an old Ga. girl I have that since of pride . Hope to visit there myself one day.😍
Many people have no curiosity or regard for the past. It surprises me that people don't know their great-grandparents'names! I am a descendent of the same Gaines family of Virginia as General Edmund P. Gaines. He was a cousin of my lineal ancestor.
You would LOVE Dudley Farm State Park in Newberry, FL just about an hour and a half south of Valdosta. Check out their website. All the buildings are full of furniture and even the general store full of old jars and stuff.
On trails near the old Catskill Mountain House, people actually carved their names in the ROCKS - so you see graffiti from the 1800’s. At first, it’s a bit startling, and then you realize it’s a part of the history of the area.
Is this a state park? You would think the park service would have a ranger or someone there to insure the integrity and protect these historical buildings and the replication of others. These buildings need some upkeep (per their period) or they, as you, Robert, said, will deteriorate and will be no more, and what a shame for future generations. Thank you for sharing this historical place w/us. Also enjoyed your video of the cemetery.
We found this place about 22 years ago on our way home from Alabama. At that time there was a HUGE canon and a big white house with a marble plaque on the front with names of people. Any of that still there? I have pictures somewhere.
I've been fortunate to have visited several authentic reproductions in various locations in America. And I live in a location with a nearly fully restored California Mission. Even tho' it's right outside town, I rarely get out there to renew that sense of history always felt there. The original site in town was destroyed by earthquake, and only a few visible relics of the complex are left. I wonder how often it gets visitors...not much is there.
I know that smell. And there is such a thing as restoring too much. My family leases hunting land in Butts County back when I was a teenager and there was a house on the property that was at least pre 1880’s. Hand hewn timber frame and square nails. Dad let me have a key and I used to drive down there and just hang out in that old house. Previous residents had left behind lots of stuff in the attic and I’d go through pictures and letters trying to figure out who they were and why they would leave family photos behind. My brother and his 1st wife and kids lived there for a year or so and his wife swore it was haunted.
Such a shame that a part of the areas history has to be destroyed by vandalism. With some working could become a tourist attraction & not fall into decay. Thanks sharing Robert. Where's your sidekick? the local council show be ashamed to let it be in disrepair,. Please I hope you can make them aware. Not that anything would be done, as least knowing you tried. The smokehouse is an absolute disgrace. These families donated these buildings believe they would be rested. Makes me so angry. If you reply with who I could contact please so. Don't care I live in Australia someone needs to stand up for these pioneering families. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🐨🦘🌏👍🏻🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
When the Indians were removed...from their homeland. Always makes me sad and embarrassed about our beginnings. We are all God’s children in His Kingdom. I still enjoy watching your channel and being able to see history I wouldn’t otherwise have seen!
Shocked by the neglect of this area. Locals should take more care of this park when this pandemic allows. Should have liked to have seen the statue of the native American who left for Florida and more about him. Hope it wasn't vandalized and destroyed.
Very nice little tourist attraction. Our history needs to be preserved whether people agree with it or not. Sad to see all that vandalism. The grey cat is probably the Lone Sentry. there.
Yes we can have nice things .....post signs saying your under camera surveillance and if you even think about destroying the property you will be prosecuted or better yet get community service and clean up your mess.
