WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know.

I've got 900 lbs of the stuff I picked up on a road cut near the Mississippi river and Germantown Tn. I was working on a cell phone tower and there was a new road cut up to a tower site that had square piece just like that one you are working I've not worked much of it as it's all square edged and full of cracks. Your video gives me new hope that there's something inside those blocks.

Its when everyone else is asleep and im able to turn on a livestream or documentary and just listen and chip away. Ive figured out what im using for a bopper is too lite and im not hitting it hard enough. Im gonna have to bite the bullet and buy the right stuff when I can. Im sure i dont have enough clout to earn a sponsored set. Problems of a poor man 😂

"Consider the many uses of birch by Native Americans. The waterproof bark - evolved to protect the easily rotting wood - made lightweight canoes, baskets, and kept rain out of homes. The resinous birch “tar” was also used to fill canoe gaps, cure leather, and as a healing salve for mosquito bites and skin sores"source bioeconomy coalition of minnesota

The type of "operational chain" where tools get reshaped and repurposed seems to be more frequent in the old world, and in the upper paleolithic. Before systematic quarrying was a thing. The evidence is mostly seen in blade core tech. Things like exhausted blade cores and thicker blade tools being turned into pressure micro blade cores. Earlier hominins seem to have just stayed near the stone sources, and later on with better logistics and transport it seems like work efficiency outweighs material economy.
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty Месяц назад
Yes, that's my impression also. Although I didn't know it was more prevalent within the prismatic blade technology.
@NarheimArmoury
@NarheimArmoury Месяц назад
@@KnapperJackCrafty In Europe there's very little bifacial technology from the arrival of modern humans up to the end of the mesolithic. It's pretty much all blade tech and economizing material. That's where the french are coming from, but it doesn't necessarily translate to other areas and periods and it seems like they tend to assume it does.

Have you ever seen the video that says that ancient man would wittle down a large rock(or a little larger) like that into a kinda egg corn shape that they'd then travel around with shooting blades off of for people to use...they were the traveling knife guy... Think about the possibility of whittling one of those n if you had one, getting blades to chip,shear, flake off of it...i imaging kinda like when you're thinning an arrowhead or knife blade n manage to flake one almost all the way across the back side...
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty Месяц назад
It's a nice theory, but trying to provide consistent flakes off a single stone core is very risky. What happens when it doesn't work?

What do you do with your waste?
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 23 дня назад
In Texas, if it's too small to knap, I bag it up and send it to the landfill with my household trash. Here in Vermont, I've been dumping the flakes at our local recycle center in the "natural waste" area. They dump concrete their too, so it gets mixed in with modern material.
