I have literally zero experience in picking locks and don't plan to learn any time soon, but I still find this channel so therapeutic and satisfying when you crack one of them bad boys open.

Can I please break your heart a little bit? I live in Australia and spent 5 years working, keying up and installing Bi-Lock locks to the Australian Defense Force. That lock that you have is many years behind, there is a type '2' Bi-Lock that has a '13th' Pin in the very front behind that little spigot that you have bent with your tension wrench. The key has a little pivoting pin that pushes up on that 13th pin when you insert the key. I will have to post you the newer model Bi-Lock to prove yourself and their 'anti-pick' claims.
@admacdo
@admacdo 8 лет назад
+Tim Lance Yep. The Australian Government Security Construction and Equipment Committee don't classify the old Bilocks, which that one clearly is because of the parallel pins. The new type 2's also have staggered pins and key inserts smoothly compared to the old ones. They are a different kettle of fish to pick. Pity the keys still shred the insides of your pockets. The type 2's are also a controlled item, so be cautious where you post them.

+admacdo2009 Got so many pockets with holes in them...thank goodness most of the places I work at now have moved to electronic keys
@PBMS123
@PBMS123 3 года назад
@@admacdo They aren't a controlled item. They're available to any locksmith who is accredited to key restricted keys. You say controlled item as if the defence force owns them
@admacdo
@admacdo 3 года назад
No. I say controlled item as the locksmith accreditation system is owned by the SCEC.
@PBMS123
@PBMS123 3 года назад
@@admacdo What? SCEC is responsible for the evaluation of security equipment for use by Australian Government departments and agencies. It is not a regulator or a accreditor. They're an interdepartmental committee, and it's in the name SCEC the E is for equipment. All you need to be a locksmith is a trade qualification as a locksmith and a Security Licence in the state you conduct business. Generally speaking good locksmiths become members of the Master Locksmith Association (but that's not a government department). Sending somebody a Bi-Lock is not illegal, and if you could show me on the SCEC website where they talk about "Controlled Items" at all would be great. Once you become BiLock authorised you can cut and create registered master keys etc. They're not controlled whatever that means. They're merely protected by a patent, and thus you cannot cut them without authorisation from Australian Lock.

I work in Canberra, the capital, and bilocks are very common in government offices and other places. I have two keys for two different buildings, but either will open the padlock on the front gate. It's nice to know they aren't a simple pick :)

Yeah bilocks are great locks, but in Brissy many places are starting to use the much easier and unpickable abloy locks expensive but companies usually can afford a 200 dollar lock per door.

chefgav1 abloys have been picked, do a search on RU-vid and you will see a few people who have picked them.. They were thought to be un pickable but with a special custom pick, lots of experience and maybe a little luck you will get an open

Gosh, I miss you Bill! Regarding this lock, the sparse commentary on your part speaks to its sophistication. The level of effort was about equivalent to me doing a Master Lock #3. Lol. You are the man! I encountered these in the wild for the first time today and I gawked!

Great job on the pick of the BiLock. Six years ago they installed these in our new county facility on all doors and the power electricians have a bunch of padlocks with BiLock slugs in them for tagging out electrical contacts. BiLock key duplication process is very interesting how they first cut the blank then fold into a "U" shape still maintaining precise tolerances.

I love your channel Bill; I will say that my whole house, every lock, is outfitted with BiLock cylinders. I even have one in my motorcycle padlock. And we are indeed in the USA. So that's at least 5 more cylinders, beyond your own :)
@tau65

Hi Bill, I just watched this video and I'd be keen for you to dismantle the cylinder and show us the actual pins. There is a way to set up a BiLock cylinder so it can be picked but the proof is in seeing the pins. Cheers from Australia

@@mcxiii one way I can think of is to drill the holes in the sides of the pins larger (like for mastered bilock pins) or make multiple holes, or make the holes sloped so they're easier to get in to.

An awesome achievement! A 12 pin, double sidebar bi-axial is really getting into the supplemental oxygen "death zone" scale of a mountainous challenge -( supplemental some-thing any way! ) If I got started on one of those - I would be worried I would look up, one day, from a deeply scarred, deformed key way and pile of broken picks - to realize life all but was over! :)
@KevinWorrell

Awesome job +bosnianbill! Bi-Lock is going to have to change the claim on their website. Their website says: "There are claims of people picking a BiLock cylinder. In every case we have researched, the operating key was already in their hand and they refused to let us examine the actual lock. This leads us to believe that the locks were "modified" to make it look easy to pick. The locks manufactured by BiLock are to the highest standards and quality. We have yet to personally witness any original BiLock cylinder being picked open without a key. We donate our locks to picking contests around the world to maintain this confidence."

This locks construction makes me wonder about the definition of "high security lock". Usually "High Security" means that there is a secondary locking mechanism, so the "picking and pin binding" is no longer a linear process, since secondary locking mechanism is supposed to work in parallel with normal pin tumbler action. For example in a medico lock the side bar and pin sheer line can both bind the pin and picker does not know which mechanism is the binding one. However in this lock, or for that matter Schlage primus or ASSA there is still only one way to bind each pin. Medicos with non-ARX pins have other security flaws, essentially breaking the "parallel action" of the sidebar; however the "Idea" behind ARX pinned medeco is the best one of the bunch; but execution of that idea is a fail.

Awesome vids Bill!! Dear lock picking community, I have a question about trying a lock over. over... I'm new to the sport and have had some success with beginners locks but an having issues repeating it? An example I've got an American 1100 that was able to get an open but now it's harder than before? It's got more flop because of 'determination'. Should I just shelve it and get a new one? Thanks!!

@asidsiddiq4209
@asidsiddiq4209 8 лет назад
+Peter9 and William6 Gaming Basically, in any lock that I know of, the pins are there to hold the side-bar, as King Bill states. When you line up the pins correctly, the side bar can then move and allow the lock to open.
