I have to agree. Colt is my favorite firearm company. Then Winchester after that Remington and Ruger along with Springfield armory. But Colt is number one. Samuel Colt started an incredible company. The peacemaker is an awesome feat of engineering and ergonomics. The 1849 pocket model and the 1851 Navy were some of his first great designs. Another one of my favorite firearms is the 1911 Colt automatic. We can thank John Browning but Colt is the one that produced them in numbers.
As of tomorrow when I turn 21, this will be my first handgun of my own. I've always loved the looks of the old revolvers and I found an affordable Uberti with a 7.5 in barrel. Looking forward to taking it to the range.
@ king of skulls I hate the raiders. I don’t think twice about shooting every single one of them if their tongue even moves and as for the skinners them guys are scary if they were real I would never walk alone in the woods
Watched part 1 and 2, put on my shoes, drive to the gun store 3 minutes from my house, and bought a Uberti 1873 Cattleman in stainless. Love it so far! Thanks Hickok!
I'm very jealous of you Americans being able to own great firearms like this. Kinda sucks living in the UK, we can get them, the Ubertis, but only in .380 bank. Still beautiful guns but sadly not quite the real thing.
+A.R. Bell (PS3: Alex_Talionis) With this new attempt for the EU to bring one even MORE restrictive gun control, I do believe you all are going to have to start staging marches and protests over there. Get more organized and Do SOMETHING!
+hickok45 I don't mind the gun control so much, gun crime since the amendments to the the Firearms Act has gone right down - which is a good thing. It's just the petty restrictions on things like replicas and deactivated guns that annoys me as a collector.
Luckily historic guns, like the old Colts, muskets and that kind of thing have been largely untouched. You still need and FAC/shotgun license to own one but at least you can still own things like blackpowder guns.
+A.R. Bell (PS3: Alex_Talionis) While its nice that gun crime has gone down, wasn't that due more to the removal or organized crime as well as better economic standards? I mean with such strict rules in the UK , even if they were to allow semi automatic weapons again, there would not be an explosion in crime.
dnieves1418 Not really no, economic standards, if anything, are worse. Knife and other related crime has remained largely unchanged for instance. As for organised crime, well if those types of criminals still want guns they can get them... Regardless of the law. But less guns generally = much less gun crime and that was the key idea behind the 1968 Firearms Act amendments that came in after the Dunblane shooting; it only took the UK one school shooting to restrict gun ownership.
After watching this clip again, I originally View the clip approximately 3 years ago. But after watching it again, I think I will purchase one. Beautiful revolver. Thank you for this post keep up the work that you're doing, educating the public. Today is July 14th 2022.
Uberti makes a good firearm. I have their reproduction of the 1875 Remington, and it is my favorite firearm, bar none. Just an absolute blast to shoot, and a real looker.
Thank you for getting me into the world of the Colt SAA and clones. Bought a Uberti El Patron Beleza and it’s wonderful. The action is amazing, was told it has wolf springs. Not familiar with wolf internals vs stock but this baby sure is butter.
Thanks for doing a T&E of the 1873 Cattleman Hickok. I had one of the old Vaqueros, and even though I am a Ruger fan, I just didn't like the feel. Too bulky and I wanted a more traditional Colt type piece, not a fan of the transfer bar safety system. Sold it and picked up a Cattleman in the 7 1/2'' barrel. It is truly a very well made revolver and very accurate. Like you pointed out, there are only a couple of minor differences between the Cattleman and the Colt, so minor most people wouldn't even notice. I would say for the money you can't beat the Uberti 1873 Cattleman. BTW, would you mind sharing you favorite recipe for rolling your own .45 Colt rounds?
Man the sound of the brass and the spent shot gun rounds as he walks through the range cracks me up. I got a cimaron Uberti rooster shooter 45lc. Love it
I love to watch Hickok45 having a good time - sometimes in some videos we can see that the gun is not so interesting or the day is not so good for shooting and taking videos but in videos like this - real pleasure for the shooter and for us behind the monitors... Have a nice day Hickok45 and Thank you for sharing with us...
This is the exact gun (but in 5.5") that I've been wanting to get! After this video now I really want one. Thanks again for all the great work you guys do for us.
Your SAA videos are some of my favorites. Glad to see you showing some love to the Ubertis as well. I have a Cattleman in .357 and I love it. It shoots left but groups well, so I just adjust my sight picture a bit. Everyone needs a good single action revolver. :)
@hickok45, Uberti recently came out with a newer version of this revolver that I just recently purchased and am extremely impressed. It's called the Cattleman II. It has a different, internal safety (concealed inside the hammer!) without the extra notch in the base pin and has the classic Colt SAA look. The only thing different than the original Colt is while cocking you don't get the 4-click (or C-O-L-T click). You should check it out, it's pretty slick!!
Kind of reminds me of my dads Virginian Dragoon. That empty chamber practice is no joke, when I was a kid I rocked the hammer gently down onto a loaded chamber and exploded the dirt right in front of me a little too close for comfort.
Wow, that Uberti is really a nice looking piece. Just beautiful and the finish seems to be impeccable. I am seriously thinking about taking a closer look at one of these babies at my local gun shop. I am impressed!
lol ... watching those big, fat slugs fly in on the gong ... too funny. I've got a 8.5" Uberti 1872 Open Top and a 5.5" SAA. As Hickok says, both are really very nice revolvers.
I would love to see this man play Red Dead Redemption 2 and hear his opinion on the guns in that game. If the are accurate representations of the real thing. Sir, make it happen. Discovered your channel researching the guns in rdr2. Love the channel, got my sub!!!
I just love these videos from hickok45, so relaxing to watch his voice is nice and relaxing and the man really knows his stuff, i agree with alanos it is such a crock that uk citizens are not considered responsible enough to enjoy firearms or indeed defend ourselves, relying instead on the police to come to the rescue an hour later, only to arrest you because you hit one of the muggers back and violated his human rights to mug people if he so chooses!!!!!! Hickok45 you don't know how fortunate you are, or maybe you do!!!!
Yes, that also caught my attention. Seems like the hollow points does make a difference? What else can it be? Maybe expansion did not take place but the hollow point of the bullet created more area surface which in turn had the explosive effect of the water?
YOU'RE SO COOL! The reviews are amazing, the guns are just simply stunning and everything is so entertaining to watch! I can never wait for the next episode. :)
well, they are rethinking some of the gun laws in Canada and could do-away with the ATTs all together, which would be fantastic, obviously. looking around for this in Canada and wolverine supplies has them at comparative pricing.
Aquatictoaster That is not what I said. They allow us to have single actions but getting one is extremely difficult. We have two main firearm class systems. One is non-restricted like a ruger 1022 and other rifles and shotguns. The other is restricted. If it is restricted, like all handguns in Canada, the process of acquiring one is more difficult than going to space.
Watch more of the long range stuff in the other videos, happens a lot. That Gong is out at about 80 yards (I think?) and that's a fairly long way for a pistol round. .45 Colt isn't a seriously hot load, it's meant to be a short range man stopper.
Hickock, a big thank you to you and John for taking the time to make these videos. I enjoy them very much! I handled a 4-3/4" Uberti Cattleman at a shop the other day, the owner explained that the firing pin on the hammer is spring loaded and inertia driven and would allow carrying on a loaded chamber vs. the solid hammer on the old Colts. What are your thoughts on this?
I have a soft spot for those classic revolvers. Nothing compares to the single action especially in a 45. Thats a beautiful revolver looks exceptionally well made.
Love my Western shows watching John Wayne today and I hear this cliche. Charcoal burner never heard that term before. Found out proud to say it's part of our heritage just watched True grit with the Duke. Then went to this site and got a little history lesson. Thank you sir.
Mine is in chrome like nickel with ivory handles and 45 long colt. It’s a beauty! They make a wonderful reproduction of a real colt for at least a thousand dollars cheaper. Like Hickok45 I love revolvers. However I need to add a classic 1911 to my collection.
Hickok45, I have been in love with the old Colt SAA ever since I was a kid and played Metal Gear Solid on the original Playstation. Sort of sparked my interest in 'real' guns that game. Still don't own one, unless you count a Heritage .22 I picked up for plinking on the cheap. I wish you would STOP putting these videos out, every time you do I reach for my checkbook and have to talk myself out of spending $600 or more on a gorgeous handgun. Excellent Video.
You don't need 600 bones to get one vulpixgrant. I picked up the old model (black powder frame) Cattleman a few years back for 360 skins! She has a super rich blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, and back strap with color case hardening on the frame and hammer, she is a looker! Plus she shoots like a million dollar mare. That should be enough to make you reach for the check book again. :^D
That's good to know, the Ruger New Vaquero's are $600 where I shop, but they aren't real clones since they have the modern lock-work. I am still sitting on the fence between blued barrel cold blued frame, or all stainless. But thank you for the $$$ info, I will have to bug the shop to get some Uberties in ;)
vulpixgrant I was on the fence about the finish too.. I really thought that I was set on a nickel or stainless Uberti Cattleman.. But then I saw one in the Old West finish (comes antiqued from the factory) and I fell in love. Looks almost exactly like Hickoks SAA from 1884... They did a great job. So that is the one that I am buying now :) Whatever finish you decide on, I hope you buy one.. They are awesome guns :)
I ended up getting another gun instead, but it's rather similar. Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter, he has a video on one of those that made me want one. The Gun Show I go to offered to sell it to me $50.00 over cost, and I jumped on it never seeing one for that price :D Even ordered it in for me and all, that's why you stay loyal to one or two shops lol. But yes, the cold blueing is awesome looking on those guns.
vulpixgrant LOL! Talk about ironic... Tomorrow I am selling my Super Blackhawk Hunter to a friend, and using the funds to buy the Uberti that I mentioned above :) (antique finish Cattleman with a 4-3/4" barrel.) I bought the Hunter 2 years ago and still have not fired it.. I too was inspired by Hickoks video back then, and decide to buy one. My main reason was that it resembled the old Colts, which I fell in love with as a child. But since I knew I could never spend the $2000 or so to buy a real old Colt, I settled on the Ruger. But now, thanks to Hickok, I know about Uberti and I am set on buying one of their SAA's :)
Picked one of those up a couple years back, love shooting it. Smooth action, accurate. One thing I have to keep remembering is that I can only shoot the target loads
I purchased a cattleman II which is a very nice gun. I have noticed the cocking is a little bit less distinct because of the firing pin safety they added. A nice feature in case you do decock on a full chamber by mistake but does make it feel a little more "clicky" when you move it about.
I used to be skeptical of the Italian clones... until I bought one. I had a Uberti and I now have a Pietta. Both are excellent! I only use black powder cartridges in them because I love the classic gun smoke! Fun guns!
+Kazekage Well, define worst. Headshots are still instant kills, and it only took one extra bullet to the body. I use the Cattleman and the Winchester until I get the LeMat and the Bolt action.
One of my favorites. I have been using my Heritage Rough Rider .22 quite a bit and now that I've started reloading a little the real .45 LCs are looking pretty good. Question to anyone who owns one: The stainless steel version is nearly $200 more MSRP. Is it worth it? This gun looks amazing, fit and finish wise. How do the other finishes stack up?
i own all 3 lengths because i couldn't decide - cattleman in 5.5, ruger new vaquero in 4.75, and a colt gen 3 in 7.5. The balance and weight between the 4.75 and 5.5 are nearly identical. Though the 4.75 is very nice and feels compact. The 7.5 is just classic.. but it a bit nose heavy.
***** Same here.. its one of the reasons i bought a colt Gen 3 blue -44-40 7.5 w/ ivory grips. spaxspore.deviantart.com/art/Colt-Generation-3-SAA-44-40-Cavalry-Model-459684638 As my first SAA.. then before i knew it i had to have one in 5.5.. then 4.75.. its a drug.
***** exactly, thats why i have it in 44-40 to go with my 1873 winchester. The other two are in .357mag for obvious economic reasons.. $15-20 per 50 is much cheaper than $35+ for a box of 50 in .45lc. Also its because i do not reload.
I love my 4.75" blued Cattleman. Really nice bluing and I like the knurling on the hammer. It came with a perfect trigger with no creep at all. Shoots dead on with my 250gr Lyman cast bullets, as they do in my 1894 Marlin companion rifle. My Cattleman shot a little low when I got it and I just grazed the front sight a few times with a file to lower it and touched up the bluing and it's perfect.
Hello from Canada ! My husband likes your videos! He can hear you and he can understand you. You always shoot the weapons you are talking about He also likes History.
Just ordered mine from Taylor's. All blued, .45 Colt, 5 1/2 inch barrel with brass army size grip frame. Should be here around Christmas. I was thinking about calling them up and seeing if I can switch out the hammer and trigger for stainless or nickel plated. Do you guys think that would look good with the brass grip frame, or should I leave the hammer and trigger blued like the rest of the gun?
ECUporkchop The stainless would probably add some nice contrast to the rest of it, make it stand out a little more, Either way it'll be a piece of art.
Tombstone the movie brought me here. I got a stainless steel .45 Thunderer: Doc Holiday's replica. Single action. Passed my License to carry with best score, against 9mm, 40 and other preferred guns. Made me feel special.I lived 45 miles away from Tombstone AZ. Been there several times.
Criminal tries to rob a person in the shadows …. Hickock 45 steps out of the shadows puts his hearing protection in …..the robber:excuse me sir may I use the restroom
I know this is an old video, but I like the way you updated the screws and base pin in the charcoal blue. That is a nice touch against the stainless steel.
Hi Adam, Trail Boss is good, but you dont get many loads to the pound. As a Kiwi I can get ADI powders quite easily and have been using 6.0 grains of AS50N behind a 200grn semiwadcutter for over a decade. It is really clean and consistent( Have a look at Green Dot-very similar).AP70 can leave a lot of"Dandruff" -but really good in a rifle. If you shoot a lot of the 250grn projectiles,it can beat you up a bit after 100 rounds in a shoot. And a good crimp is a must as the projectiles do pull out with inertia...not a fun gun to strip when things are locked up!
True, but when the projectiles are backed out and poking out the front of the cylinder ( the 255grn ones are just flush)and locking everything up,ya gotta be a little gentle as theres still live primers in the mix.Unless you wanna hammer them back into the cases....
Underwood and buffalo bore make a hardcast 255 grain Keith SWC load at 1000 fps that is standard pressure and was used by Elmer on grizzlies and horses and cattle...it is standard pressure and will work just fine in colts and clones.
i'd love to see Hickok with an M79.... takes a bit of finesse but I bet he can handle it. WE just got to get him one..... anyone got one to let him try ???
I also own a 2nd Gen Colt, so can accurately say the difference is very slight in performance and very big in price tag. I’ve spent a lot of time looking online and Cheaper Than Dirt has the best prices (around $50-$100 less), fast shipping, and the biggest selection.
I have been watching your videos for a long time now Hickok45 and I'm getting depressed the more I watch them. You see I'm in the UK and my hobby is similar to yours but with pellet guns and bb guns. I swear if I could, I would come out to the States for a vacation just to visit you and see your Western firearms. I am so envious. Please keep them there videos coming sir.
I own a Peacemaker style Uberti -- an ironically named "Regulator". 4-5/8" barrel in .45 Colt. It's a great shooter with accurate sights. Only problem l had with it was a broken hand spring, which I was able to replace myself. It has become my favorite revolver.
