I used to put felt on all my banjos tail pieces to keep them from vibrating and making unwanted noise and still do it to every banjo I work on. that mando does have a bark to it!
@RosaStringWorks

One of my best friends played the mandolin. He had played with Doc and Ralph. He was considered the best in this area. Gone now 10 years. I miss his playing.

Thanks for the setup video Jerry, I don’t get too many mandolin’s so it’s always great to see some basic setups. Thank you for the video and the additional explanations, it’s great info to have.

+BarbedStar glad to hear that. I'm not old enough to drink coffee myself. At least that's what my mom always told me. She's deceased and never told me any different so I still don't drink it. Thanks for watching.

I took your advice and put a cast tailpiece and LS 250's on my Loar LM 500 and it made a big difference! It's way more alive and open sounding. I only wish it weren't covered by urethane! Much obliged!

Another great video. Two things: I think it does sound much better; and, although I am sorry you got hurt, you had me laughing so hard I was in tears when you said "I radiused my knuckle too."😂 I can't even write this without chuckling!

he should of just had you put a new tail on it one thats solid so it'd have some more bark to it I have the Eastman 915 A style and it has a lot more bark but it has more upgrades to it than the 315 too the bridge must be an Eastman thing as mine is the same for intonation closer to the back on the high side but all in all there a good Mandolin thanks for the great post and as always it's a joy to watch your video

I'm considering buying the MD315 for my first and probably last mandolin. It's right at $699. I like the F style look. The Kentucky brand is over my budget. I was considering the Washburn M108 or M118 but many in the reviews say that the front is to thick and it doesn't project. I will have to add a pick up later if I get the MD315 so I can amplify. I would appreciate any thoughts you might have on my first purchase. Most reviews say the Kentucky KM150 is the best purchase.... but I really want the F style not the A. Thanks

I played both demo clips back to back. Much nicer sounding mids and less ice picky highs with the strings and saddle. Good improvement. Is that a mahogany top or just stained to look like?

Always a pleasure to see you at work, Jerry! What kind of oil did you use for this fretboard? I've just ordered a md 315 for myself and I want to be sure to properly take care of it
@RosaStringWorks
@RosaStringWorks 6 лет назад
Boiled linseed oil. Just be sure to wipe it off. Wait about 5 minutes and wipe it off again.

I was watching a Sarah Jarosz video of her playing her octave mandolin. I'm curious why the four low strings don't match. I've never seen an octave up close. Almost looks like the 2nd and 4th string has a red spiral. She re tunes when she takes the capo off.

Have you Jerry, or could you build a guitar like a mandolin? just curious as to wether it could be done, if not, is there any reason why it couldn`t /shouldn`t be done?
@RosaStringWorks
@RosaStringWorks 6 лет назад
+1066wastrel there are all kinds of mandolin family instruments built to all kinds of sizes. I am not an expert in them but if you get to looking there are plenty of them out there and there are plenty that are in the guitar size. Thanks for watching.
