I can't believe I forgot to add pockets to this skirt - something I'll have to see if I can remedy! I also may have hemmed the skirt slightly too short, another item to fix! I am enjoying seeing the outfit come together, but I have to admit I can't wait to get to some more knitting again.
The pockets I use for my Victorian stuff are the ones from the Bertha Banner book. Bernadette talks about them in her walking skirt video. They are probably the best pockets I've used for skirts. So roomy and easy to put in with hand stitching. If the skirt length kind of hits the top of your foot then that's a great length for walking skirts. But I do understand wanting the swoosh of something more floor length.

Can’t believe you went from your first sewing attempt to doing a pattern like this so fast! You certainly are braver than me I’m still scared of trying out these more complicated pieces despite having moderate sewing experience. You did a really great job! Something that helps with silk and other slippery fabrics is putting paper under it while sewing. You can just rip the paper off or wet it and rub it off once you are done, but it helps a lot to keep your fabric more stable when working on it

I discovered your channel very recently, and I just wanted to say that I've really enjoyed this series. I've been sewing since I was six (I'm in my 20s now), and I have wanted to start historical costuming for so long, and seeing your process has really inspired me. As far as the issue with the interfacing, my suggestion would be to flatline the silk with something like cotton, and fuse the interfacing to the cotton layer. Flatlining will also give the silk some weight, which will help the waistband hold it's shape better. Hope that makes sense. 🌼
you did a good job! your skirt isn't too short at all --- in fact, I'd say it was an inch or two longer than skirts of the period intended for walking around would be. You want the skirt to hit the upper part of the shoes for a walking skirt, or the top of the boot (1-2" above the ankle bone) for skirts worn by working women. in future, you may find you have more luck fusing the interfacing to the cotton, rather than to the silk.
Well done you! Silk can be a b*%€¥ even for those of us with more experience. Keep going you'll get there in the end. Lovely scenery, spare a thought for those of us stuck in small appartments in cities.
With silk you can get a spray "silicone" (be careful as this can mark the fabric) which will help with the movement of the fabric through the machine, also play around with your stitch length (many machine vary but your machine manual may have a trouble shoot for stitch length for difficult or fine fabric). Also it a good idea to find out the fibre count (this depicts how many threads per inch in the weave so the higher the number closer the weave) good example of this is show when you buy bedding. The number is show as 180,200,or 400 count. So fine silk will have a high count and closer weave, equals short stitch length on many machines brands or longer on others. This will help you when buying needle size and shape of needle points. Crossing weave can leave large or small holes/pulls. Sorry if thus is complicated but understanding weave of fibre will help you cut and sew better as you will understand the nature of the Beast. 🤪
If I'm using fusible interfacing, I find the easiest way is to roughly cut out the fabric and interfacing, fuse them together (fabric on top) and then cut the piece properly. If you have lots of interfaced parts, you can also 'block fuse' larger pieces of fabric and interfacing together and then cut out all the pieces. ETA: I forgot to say, for a novice sewist with no-one to tutor you in person, you're doing very well. Sewing is one of those 'practice makes perfect' things.
Have you made or do you already own something to go under the corset? Since they’re not great against the skin and I can’t remember if you actually have a video on a shift or chemise.
Very nice! This seems like it would be a complicated pattern but you pulled it together beautifully. I don't know if you have ever played the game BioShock Infinite, but your dress reminds me of the dresses Elizabeth wears.

Beautiful! I love that you didn’t just make it straight one color and added the pleats and nicer waist. I was trying to see your waist once you had it on darn it since I see you wearing the corset type piece you said so I couldn’t fully see how it was.
Your attempt at sewing an ensemble from the 1890's is wonderful. Your doing a fabulous job with each piece. I've sewn wedding dresses and 3 piece men's suits, but this is a wonderful attempt with learning to sew. I applaud you in learning.
