I spend a lot of my free time knitting, mainly historical patterns with some modern ones thrown in. Join me Thursdays for a new video on historical knitting (and sometimes sewing).
As my therapist always likes to remind me: “the only way through it is to feel it!” I am sending you, Nutella, and your new bird friends so much love. Thank you for sharing your projects and snippets of your life!
I’ve always loved math so I think that’s why knitting and now weaving appeal to me. I’m a new weaver but I think for the short heddle situation you could have kept threading using shafts 5-8. So shaft 1 in pattern would go on shaft 5. When weaving, you would need to life more shafts at a time but for me it would outweigh having to move heddles. But every mishap is a learning experience.
I would like to know the pros/cons of using a wool-silk blend fabric for your stockings? How does the fabric react to moisture, hot weather, cold weather, how breathable is it on the skin? Thanks.
Thank you for this video. It inspired me to unravel just the arms of a wool sweater to knit into a skirt and wear with the remaining sweater as a vest skirt set.
Yap, we're still in 'The Weavers Era', and we will remain so for many more swings around the Sun. Also, it's beautiful to think of, that our species didn't invent the art of making thread, as the Neanderthals already made spun cordage.
how could i have thought i'd be the first to mention japanese tabi 🙃 kudos to the community i guess 💕 at least nobody said how important foot posture is for overall health. you basically want arches with sixpacks, in order to prevent all kinds of long-term leg and back issues. similar to lactose-free cuisine and the deep squat, split-toe footwear is one of those things asian cultures treasure for good reason.
You know you are in the right corner of the internet when you are learning to weave, reading a book about math and watching this video. Thank you for this lovely video ❤
Good morning Did you receive my message about your beautiful jumper? I live in UK and I don't find nothing similar Please advise me because I want to do one for me. Do you have or will have videos to help about Thanks and sorry Adel Maria
When i was younger we had icy rain and i needed to go out. My mother recomended to wear socks over my shoes against slipping, but i said no ... fell very badly and broke my hand ... lesson learned
I’m so glad you enjoyed this so much and caught on so quick! I was looking for videos of people learning cause ive been struggling a lot with tatting and wanted to not be alone haha. I’ve not quite achieved that with this video but it’s ok, cause I’m really happy with how happy you are!! Any tatting advice would be lovely. I’m not using a shuttle, however, im using a needle.
The bit about the clocks colors clashing? Silly rabbit ... stockings are for crazy! Skirts went to the floor "in the olden days" Whether you were knitting your own, or (depending on the price) buying them, there were stripes, scrappies, eyelets or 'does NOT go with this dress!' Delicately beautiful? was more or less for the wealthy or the obscenely talented
isn’t it bad to store yarn open like that? it leaves it open for moths to lay eggs…I had some yarn ruined from moth larva…luckily I caught it quickly so it was only 1 skein.
They are sooo cute! Especially the ducks! That stop motion sequence at the end was really sweet and very nicely done. And yes, a group of supportive birds is definitely a cuddle. Wishing you all the best, better times are coming!
I do find it rather *interesting* (to put it lightly) that the weave pattern of satin is incredibly similar to the only symmetrical solution to the 8 Queens Puzzle, but it's the 8 Queens Puzzle that is both more famous and has more written about it than the mathematics of weaving satin, despite the weave pattern of satin being much older and arguably playing a much larger role in daily life for most humans than chess. This is to the point that even Wikipedia articles on both topics do not reference each other, neither the articles for "satin" or "weaving" contain any math discussion, and the article on the 8 Queens Puzzle contains much more written information than the article for satin [rhetorical sarcasm] gee, I wonder why that is? What a mystery, I wonder what the sociological explanation of that could be? Isn't it just so weird that it took a bunch of Victorian old white guys two years to publish a solution to problem when a very identical problem (one that even technically includes a 9th "queen") had been figured out thousands of years ago? 🙃😑[/end of rhetorical sarcasm] thank you for your videos as always ❤your videos are not only wonderful to watch and listen to, but also shine the light of knowledge on something often taken for granted
There are many weird and varied duck-kinds. But the head of that mother duck was something new to me 😄 The ducks ended up very very cute! I would call them Fowl Friends.
A lot of people have mentioned the toe sock looks like a tabi sock from Japanese traditional wear, but one of my knitting books reproducing medieval Norwegian wear has a similar sock too! For wearing in your bed.
I hope for the best for your personal life, or at least allowing yourself to have time to process the potential grief. As for a name for the group of emotional birds... I feel like a pun with beaks would be funny, but I can't think of any. Beaklings?
