Love the re-purposing of your old spoil boards.

Note: G92 Position Register / Set Position commands will reset if a M30 command is executed at the end of a g-code job, or if the GRBL soft stop is pressed. This will effect restarting jobs. Instead of G92 it is recommended to use a G10 Set Tool Offset / Programmable Data Input command instead.

I haven't gone the probe route yet as the controller for my chinese cnc doesn't irc have a probe input. However I did make a 10.1mm probe block from some engineereing plastic of some kind and a copper 2 pence piece, attached to a little box with a 9v battery bloody loud beeper and bright led. works a charm. small foot print of a 50 pence piece is handy too as my bed is way off. You might want to get some heat sucking locking tweasers if you're over cooking the braid or use a very very hot iron very very fast.

I find this solution very devious . . . Give My solution a try . . .1 take a micro switch and drill a 3mm hole in the back . . . 2 glue the shaft of a broken cutter or dril in this hole . . . 3 solder two wires to C and NO and connect them with your Probe Terminal. With this 50 cents tool you can Auto Level non conducting material. It will give you a precision better than 50 microns and works top when you want to engrave. All letters and symbols will have exactly the same depth !

you shouldn't need to zero Y and Y to probe, or even Z you just have to set the probe "position" to the position you want it to stop if it doesn't trigger the probe. and I believe it is recommended to use G10L20P1 to set a coordinate system rather than globally offsetting with g92

Why not just use a spare feeler gauge AS THE touch plate?????????????????????????????????
