Good explanation. I've read somewhere of whites leaving the bottom loose like you were describing but then having hook and eyes to close it. That was mostly on wool. I do mine the same way as you, and sometimes in winter I'll still tie a garter around the bottom
Thanks for the video. I started wearing leggings of wool a few years ago for the winter months, I found they are a lot easier to move and work in . I wear them over the boot top and over pants and have been good to 30 below .
TRI Scotsmen, according to my research it became popular for whites to wear breechcloths during the 1760's and on, my time period is 1750's and it was less popular at that time, though some did, thanks for watching.

Flintlock Turkey Hunting had me hooked, But this one was the fist leggings video I've seen and though simple - it was something I didn't know ! And I've a lot to learn. One newbie question I have is what is the thread that should be used on the leather hide? I know I can research it but wanted you to know this was great info for someone just starting out (Thanks),
Brian, thanks for your comments and interest, I use waxed linen thread or the "fake" sinew as I don't really have enough real sinew for a lot of sewing, the linen tread can be found online, in leather shops, or hobby shops, thanks for watching.

As I am someone who is going to make their first pair of leggings, would it be accurate to attach the legging cord to the waist of the breeches with a button? I know you said reference to attaching the strap to the leggings. Great video by the way really informative!
Uriah, if your going to use a button, I would put it down on the side of the leg where you hook it directly into the legging, I believe that sometimes gators were attached this way, if you want to be as period correct as you can I would go ahead and attach the legging to the belt with a strap.
