Somewhere out there past the stars, Fess Parker, _a big man with an eye like an eagle and as tall as a mountain,_ feller thoroughly enjoyed this video. RIP Fess
Another great video! I wish I lived in Arizona so I could come see some of these shows and re-enactments. Thanks for continuing to educate us about the Old West, guys. Keep up the fantastic work!
The leathers I wore when buckskinning in Colorado back in the 70's I made out of Elk hide. The moccasins were elk hide uppers and buffalo hide (double layered) for the soles. Looked purdy darn good!
Howdy Santee, Excellent film on the buck skins. I have an old Native American friend who is from the Lenee Lenape tribe, Talking Leaves, and his ragailra includes slits under the arm pits for ventilation
I am glad you did a video on this. I've always thought that the buckskin jackets looked really awesome. Interesting information on how they were made. Thank you!
@@ArizonaGhostriders I know you have a time restraint for explaining things. I think you did a great job covering this. I am actually doing research on this to understand the whole process. I am fascinated.
Hello from the California Rangers. I Just made myself buckskin vest trousers and moccasins this year. Enjoying the snow in Northern Sierra Nevada's. They definitely stand out when I go into town
Hey, AGR, I’ve been watching you for a while. I’m a man of the Sierra Nevadas. I applaud your show. Very well done. I decided to subscribe because you just plain have a great show. Thank you.
I love it! Thanks Arizona Ghostriders for sharing another great video. You've got me laughing early this morning, that's something not easily done. I think REX needs more time in front of the camera. I appreciate the short "Cameo" appearances but ********. Thanks Santee, for willingly putting yourself in harm's way just to make our day. Stan I
Thanks for another great video Santee . I think one of the purposes of fringe on buckskins is to break up the outline of the human form . Kind of a camoflage effect . Btw , here in South Carolina we have a lake named Santee Cooper . Neat .
Another great one! And I’m only a year late. Just made my first buckskin (over)shirt. Get some weird looks heading into work but in my part of the world, it’s a grand all weather shirt and will outlast those cheap imports. And when it starts to wear through..I’ll make a new bow case. Thanks for the videos :) grand stuff! Ride well
Wow, i didnt know that was the purpose of the fringe! Haha i love the cactus "snow" man. I was told not to buy the skin shirt by a significant other lol I think it looks great. You have a great weekend santee!
Well how in the world you know about a store (River City Junction) in Mc Gregor Iowa??? Love Jim Bonkie Yes I do love his store & his wife is a blast to talk with. Plus some of those in the Rendezvous picture I knew too. Thanks for sharing
Dan is the buddy who knows how to get you into trouble and make it your fault for failing for the obvious 🤣 honestly wouldn’t have guessed that fringe was functional, but it does make sense!
Can you please do a video on horses and their prices back in the old west and how much it would've costs to take care of them and how did poor people get their hands on horses and saddles and all the equipment necessary for the horses if they couldn't afford them. I wanted a horse but the prices today are insane!! You'd have to be pretty rich today to get a horse. Also why are saddles so expensive too?
Come on Santee show them how is done 😃 Louis & clark the trail blazers of the west they open the frontier!! In buckskin's.Goooood stuff, thanks ghostriders.
Buckskins were prevalent in traditional European dress as well. Especially for pants. It was a very durable material and one pair of pants was usually worn for life. In northern Sweden a "yellow legged" (gol-bena) person is a young man, since young adults had new buckskin pants.
Great episode! Mr. T Rex couldn't find any buckskins to fit!!!!! How about an episode on "The Bone Wars" that was out west in the wild days. It would make Mr. TRex happy!
Great video, as usual thanks. I'm making a beaded vest and brain tanned buckskin is impossible to find on this side of the pond. Even the bucksin we can get is horrendously expensive.
Great video Santee makes me wish i never gave away all those deer hides from hunting over the years never thought of making something out of them wont do that any more.
Love it, Santee, but how could you not mention Tombstone's Buckskin Frank Leslie? One of the great characters from Tombstone's heyday, the man who killed Billy "The Kid" Claiborne, along with numerous others! And a great mixologist, too!
Well, I thought about him and did research. Couldn't find a photo of him wearing Buckskins, so left him out. I will do an episode on him one day, though.
I would love to see a saddles in the old west. Being around an old old Carl Carlock saddle they are better quality than any saddle now days. You can touch it and tell the difference.
Hey, Santee. Was buckskin and beading always popular, in it's "exoticness" from 1600s or so, or was there a rising and falling stigma through the ages from one seeming to gave "gone native"? Or did it vary geographically. Some cities might frown on it, whilst smaller towns may nor care... or even appreciate as it meant they might be of the trapper persuasion? And some small towns might give a side-eye whilst some cities would've cooed over the _"exotic injun garb"?_
Yeah, there was a rising and falling of popularity. People in the 1800s bought leather vests and coats with beading on them, but they gained more popularity during Buffalo Bill's heyday.
Just finished watching open range to turn on my phone and see a new video out. We have a pair of buckskin chaps at home. Can you do a video on the cattle wars or a another video of rdr2? Also could you get a Arthur Morgan prop like the t Rex and ghost in the video? Love your videos Santee!
Made lots of buckskin the old brain tan and smoke way over the years, wore it in some pretty tough conditions. All you need is a dead deer and sharp knife and three days and you got leather. It’s cold in the winter and hot in the summer. In rain it turns to snot. I do think there was a reason Indians bought cloth, and from the rendezvous times on premade cloth clothing and bolts of cloth were sent West. Give me wool and linen any day of the week.
If you watch the tv show Mountain Men on The History Channel one of the guys on the show named Tom Oar shows the whole entire process of making buckskin clothing. It's a pretty cool thing. As for me I'd like to have a buffalo or a beat coat with a buckskin shirt.
Most folks don't know that in addition to shedding water the fringes also help to make a hunter blend into the surroundings. You see, when the wind blows, the fringe moves and breaks up your form.
@@ArizonaGhostriders that's one of the reasons why Arizona Ghostriders is one of my favorite channels on RU-vid. I learn a lot and none of y'all get mad if someone shares knowledge with all y'all. I'm sitting here butchering songs on my banjo and it got me to thinking. Outside of piano, harmonica and guitar, what types of musical instruments did they have the the old west?
Hey Arizona riders could you suggest a place to get black leather gloves like those worn by lil Joe in bonanza ?as I've been wanting a pair but having no luck finding any
Well, I will, but I can tell you that vests haven't changed that much. If you can find one with a collar, go with it. You can always add a button to the top if you want it to look more period
Hello new friend this is my kinda channel a dinosaur at the Alamo😂😂i live in Texas i watched your ads and video in full great content i look forward to view more of your content returned love is always appreciated
