Make some shiny little sleeve links to fasten your 18th century shirt wristbands!
Perhaps I should make a fancy fabric lined box to keep all these in.

Well that looks ridiculously easy, and much more secure than the sleeve ties on our current Ren Faire shirts. (Yes, I know, wrong era, but "historically adequate"--love that phrase, by the way--and more accurate than the fairies & Klingons I've seen at some events). I see a project in my future :-) Thank you for posting.

I can't recall where I first heard the term "historically adequate", but I quite like it too!

I went through a phase of button collecting/acquiring/hoarding, take your pick. I used to scour through eBay in search of huge lots of buttons. I have a lot of buttons! And I've encountered many button pairs linked together. I always thought it was just an easier way to find them since all the buttons were loose. And i never took them apart. Now that i know they are actually button sleeve links, I'm definitely searching through my entire stash with informed eyes. How neat to find out that there was once an actual purpose for those linked buttons. Extraordinary!

Thank you! The sheer shirt ruffles are made of cotton organdy.

Gorgeous, and easy. I like the versatility of being able to swap them out for events/to match the rest of the outfit etc.

The floral ones are darling. I am slightly jealous of your button stash. I inherited mine from my granny and haven't added much to it so it's very sentimental. Yours seems more practical than mine.

It's so interesting! Would you like to make a video in which they talked about what was more fashionable in which decade of the 18th century? I think there are many paintings from that period where young people would be dressed in the newest fashion. And older gentlemen wore something more unfashionable, because in old age it was a little silly to chase very fashionable things. Has fashion changed quickly? Did they have shops where you could buy something ready-made or did you have to wait for your clothes to be sewn? And if the clothes were needed urgently? Top 10 most beautiful things in your opinion? Top 10 18th century clothing that would be most useful in our time. I have so many questions!

So cute and easy! By the way, I am obsessed with your ruffled shirt - I've never seen the ruffles go all the way down the split of the sleeve and I love it! So fancy!

Thank you! I love that style of shirt too! You see it more in the first half of the 18th century and it's another one of those things that's hard to see in portraits because the coat is usually in the way, so I have a section for it on my shirts pinterest board.

When you send your garments out to be cleaned by an impoverished stranger, who will boil them and bleach them and beat them with a paddle, you don't leave anything of value attached to them. It's much easier to link two button holes than it is to clip and restitch buttons every week. And if you're an accessorizing kind of guy, you want to change up your fasteners once in a while.
