If nothing else, I love the music selection in this one. Very relaxing and perfect for a rainy afternoon drive. Keep all hands and feet inside until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Thank you for riding the Tollercoaster. Great video, Jim.
I've only recently discovered this channel and I must say that I did not know there was content to satisfy my love of highways, freeways, expressways, and interstates until know. The routes, the music, the information and of course the drives are all top notch. Thank you for these videos. Now, I must find a new four wheeled road warrior for drives like these.
Haven't had the pleasure of paying for this new piece of highway, yet.. I'll have to remember the tollercoaster name, reminds me of my drives through Chicago.
Great to see the express lanes finally finished! I can’t wait to take a look when I drive through ATL in April. Glad to see you back and great video as always!
Finally had a chance to check it out! Nice updating to the freeways in Atlanta- very nice ride and was a fun ride- and it does deserve the name tollercoaster! Looking forward to seeing what else you produce in 2019! Sorry about the delay in watching- had a busy few days and all! Nice ride and it was worth the wait to watch it uninterrupted and without worrying about anything!
Nicely done as always, Jim. We truly appreciate your time and terrific efforts to put these Video PERFECTIONS together. Hope all is well with you and thanks!!!
I pass this thing everyday and was considering getting a peach pass but it’s pointless because I only use 285 west. So it’s good to see you do this cause I was curious to see how it looked!
And your channel has also introduced me to some GREAT music! Like this one right here.. about to RU-vid her. And the “Little L” song in your 65-N/Lville video 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Also waiting for you to use a Madonna song in one of your videos??!? Like “Ray of Light” would be a good one for a FAST moving city for example.. keep doing what your doing Jimmy!! And stay safe and ALERT out there on the road 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for covering this! I saw on GoogleMaps that this project was finished but the satellite images didnt give me a clue on how it actually turned out. Seems like an awesome ride!
very nice video jim i have seen your other videos years ago when i was little and i loved your videos and your channel and i'm really glad your back i have seen the construction of the express lanes years ago during our previous vacations and it took a couple of years to be finished and the construction of it on your older videos were great for your ride in atlanta years ago i'm so glad your back after months ago.
Great video despite the weather conditions; well you and I had one thing in common that day (Dec 16th) with me; we were both filming road video in Georgia, albeit opposite ends of the Peach State. I'm looking forward to driving the "Tollercoaster" myself visiting family in Cobb; looking forward to your 2019 season!
Wow, another stunning and pleasurable ride, too bad the weather was not being cooperative on that day. You pretty much drive the speed limit that I can observe from your videos, but I was clutching my seat as I watched the two other vehicles pass you as if you where standing still, that is most definitely a prime example of how you should not drive on wet pavement! You delivered another great video Jim!!!!👍👍👍
Thank you James, I was about 5-7 above the speed limit for the most part, but yeah those guys took me by surprise a bit...it's a rainy Sunday Morning, what's the hurry?
Great video as always! However during the entire video I couldn’t help but wonder why on that open road the speed limit is only 55. I need to stop taking dfw’s 75 mph express lanes for granted...
T.J. Roble if anything, based on my observation in this vid, the express lane speed drops to 55 first thing after 575... but mainline I-75 is at 65 until just shy of the Cobb..? Bruh...
I'm usually a bad passenger, but I'd happily ride shotgun with you Freeway Jim, such a smooth ride. And your music made the tollercoasting very relaxing. The tollercoaster is a bargain next to the Toronto 8-12 lane toll bypass Hwy 407 which is expensive.
Tollercoaster....what a great nickname! Also kinda a shame that there is not a standardized electronic pass / toll system that can be used in all states. I know there are several different systems out there, would be great if they could all communicate with each other.
well here in Australia, all our toll roads on the east coast (Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) are electronic and are all compatible with each other. I heard some bill passed Congress that eventually required all toll roads to be compatible with each other.
A Fantastic way to start off Season 19. I'm surprised it was that cheap for you to use the Express Lanes. I'm guessing you drove it during a part of the day when the roads weren't too busy? Because I wouldn't be surprised if they charge more to use it during the Rush Hour Periods. As for the Term "Tollercoaster", it makes sense, but you have to remember that I-75 is sort jammed into that Area of Marietta, so It shouldn't really come as a surprise to how all over the place the Express Lanes are. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to more content!
The lane prices don't fluctuate hardly at all. I frequent the lanes and I never see them change price any more than a 10¢ fluctuation. The lanes are never that busy, there can be times where there are a good amount of cars, but they are always moving.
I'm glad to finally get around to watching this. The video has me amped for the next time I can come back to Atlanta. I'll be sure to hit the Tollercoaster, the extended NE Express on 85 and check out the progress on 400@285.
Tollercoaster sounds like a fun ride! Planning on a visit to the Midwest soon? Wisconsin finished the rebuild of the Zoo Interchange (I-94/41/894/US-41/45) in Milwaukee, WI from the dinosaur it was into a impressive four level stack interchange, and several of the neighboring interchanges for the major arteries in the area. Worth a visit to see!
Drove on the Tri-State a couple times last spring and I personally think they need to full-on NJTPK EVERYTHING from I-55ish to I-90. Semi volumes ALONE within a lot of the Chicagoland was nothing short of insane... DON'T even think of getting me started on the expressways within...
Schwenda those aren’t expressways. They are the Illinois Superspeedway. Come in 3 styles. The Northern speedway{294}, the. Northwestern Speedway(90), and the Western Speedway(88).
@@schwenda3727 you mean I-95 NJ Turnpike Upper West side Manhattan Washington Heights down to Florence Exit 6 63 miles of Express Local roadways. Note for Newark to Ridgefield Park section Express is Western Spur but Local Eastern Spur
I guess "or else" means that we'll have to admire it from a short distance, should 12-12-7's route bring us near (fingers crossed). What a ride! It *does* seem to resemble an amusement park thrill ride.
Hi Mr. Jim! Just to start off I love your videos to death! I've always been fascinated on how roads work and now I can see everything across the USA from the comfort of my living room. I have a request and it's ok if you don't like it but I was wondering if you could do a Kansas City video. They have plenty of major interchanges and two stadiums! Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to read this! God bless. -Lane
Thank you for watching Lane, I have 5 videos from KC (link attached) always do a You Tube search (Freewayjim +) if you are looking for a particular city or place. ru-vid.com/group/PL3CE10F7D86EF5D7E&app=desktop
@@Freewayjim Oh God I'm so sorry for your loss. May he rest easy in heaven. He's always there with you in your brightest and darkest days, protecting you and your family and always accompanies you on your journeys through the roads of America. Once again I'm sorry and may he rest easy. Sending lots of love, support and prayers from California.
The interchange of I-285 and I-85 (NE of downtown) is nicknamed Spaghetti Junction. Is it time to give the Cobb Cloverleaf, the interchange of I-285 and I-75 (NW of downtown), recently expanded with the Toll Express Lanes, the nickname Linguine Junction?
If you go 55 on that road, expect to get flipped off, honked at, etc. The average speed on that road is 80+ MPH. I will be going 75 in a 55 and police will still pass me...
@@Garrettb214 If ONLY people would pay attention to *not* drive the speed limit in the outside lane, in front of somebody... Life would basically change for everybody, for the better. :)
How do they handle reversing the lanes? I know there are barriers, but is there an extended time for the lanes to clear prior to the reverse, and how can they tell when the entire length is clear?
In Chicago a police car, or state vehicle, goes in the direction that's about to close. Then the gates are closed behind them, ensuring that no-one is heading in the wrong direction, so you don't have a major head on at highway speeds.
I don't know exactly but you are probably close to correct and they have cameras all along the route to make sure it's clear before opening the opposite direction.
I think they simply mean that these exits are unavailable to the traffic on the normal freeway at all. They simply do not exist. They likely do not have entrance ramps, but they could since the billing is electronic.
@@swinde I completely understood that the exits are exclusive to the tolled express lane. The problem is that this tollway reverses direction probably twice a day. If traffic is allowed to enter at any of these points, there needs to be appropriate controls to ensure that they can only enter the correct direction, above and beyond electronic signage, since there are (unfortunately) drivers that would confuse the traffic pattern change even with electronic signs. If they are strictly exit only, then the issue becomes much easier to control since the bottom of the ramp can be engineered to make entrance rather difficult without the need to use barriers.
Wow... even crappy weather can't stop Jim from making a top notch quality vid. Nicely done, Jim! Btw, how expensive do all these new express lanes in Atlanta get during rush hour when compared to other places? Heard D.C's on demand toll prices are nothing short of bat ish insanity... hopefully it ain't that expensive...
@@Freewayjim 🌷 ok that makes sense 👍 I'm curious about driving conditions on it during rush. When it gets down to a one - laner in certain places, ppl will def need to be careful. I'm thinking a significant amount of drivers will choose it more and more for events they are traveling to and so forth. Time will tell. (and of course those just passing thru also).
@@tjtampa214 You have to have a GA, NC or FL toll transponder to use it so mostly it will serve local traffic, and the pricing is variable based on current traffic conditions.
@@Freewayjim Oh thanks, so it's more a regional and local deal. That's nice. I did not realize that... so, good info for infrequent travelers (got to plan ahead and hv the equipment ready). zoom zoom
There is a similar toll lane system on the south side of the Atlanta area on I-75. It is not as entertaining to drive in terms of hills and possible views on sunny days, but it saves time versus usual afternoon traffic on it.
Did this feel kind of like a small rollercoaster? There is a road called Rollercoaster in Tucson AZ, and has hard deeps, ups and curves it also it is near residential areas so, the people there wake up for sure before going to work in the morning:). Fun road!!!
Mr. Jim, If you have not heard of it, I 'd like to suggest considering the song 'Big Log' by Robert Plant as a soundtrack cut. The tempo and lyrics must have a fit in SOME context.( "🎵 My love is in league with the freeway..." ) Although, I do understand how his voice can be off-putting to some. If this is old news, go about your day and drop it.
Thank you for watching, sorry but there are many roads more interesting than I-20 in the Dallas area, it's not too high on my list of things to get when I'm there with limited time.
