You can use alarm clocks to lead hoards. Drop a bunch in a "trail of breadcrumbs" to go off on a delay one after the other. Or better yet set them to go off and drop them near a burning campfire. That way you can immolate an entire hoard without a molotov. The latter strategy works with emergency vehicles and sirens too. Just bust out a window, turn on the wee woo, start a fire near the car then watch from a safe distance.
Never thought about that didn't even know about the watches going off or setting an alarm but I haven't played the game in a long time about to play it though this month once I get my steam deck
This works, but it's slow and alarm clocks aren't that loud. The best zombie lure is the noisemaker. Put it on the same tile as your campfire and click your remote. Zombies love it and keeps them distracted (so long as they don't see tasty human flesh) for an hour per click of the remote. A good thing to combine with the alarm clock or noisemaker-on-a-campfire trap is a car horn. The radius is HUGE. Park a car near the campfire (4-5 tiles), honk a few times, then go inside. Zombies will come in from a VERY large radius to find the sound. Once arriving, the alarm clocks/noisemaker will pull them to the campfire to burn. It's a GREAT way ensure the area around your base is safe. edit addendum: The advantage of the noisemaker over the alarmclocks is how it's a regular audible 'ping' to keep the zombies in a tight ball. This helps prevent the fire from spreading too far from the campfire. In my experience, clicking the noisemaker every 50-60 min will keep them there until they burn. They don't stray too far (about 10 tiles, max) so it's nice and safe burning.
A common thing I hear but think is a misconception (mainly because I think it targets newcomers) is the idea that noise is dangerous. Noise is neutral. Noise is a tool, it can either be dangerous, or not dangerous, depending how you use it. For example, a police car with sirens turned on will attract zombies away from an area to that car. Turn it on, leave it running, and just dip. Great for horde control. Shouting too, shout and build a horde of zombies, that you then lead away from the area you wanna loot. The danger is when you don’t have a plan, always plan escapes, a through z. If you are not overburdened, you can call one story no issue, you’ll lose some health, but no broken bones. Jump through broken windows if you must! Walk for hours to lose a horde if you have to, at the end of the day, the goal is to survive.
1. Always carry a back up weapon on your belt/ back, so its easy to switch to if you need it. 2. When building a base, keep notes IRL to help you remember what you need to do/ need to acquire on your runs.
Instead of flashing the door, you can push the door which makes a bit of noise and will attract any zombies inside to reveal themselves by attacking the door. You can gauge the number of Zs by how quickly the door is being hit
I've been playing since last year, I did NOT know about the extreme burn time on toilet rolls - 300 minutes is almost a full log, but with a tiny fraction of the weight. I never even considered them as fuel. I will be testing this to see if it applies to my fireplace later. Just goes to show that you can always learn something, even with hundreds of hours of experience. Oh, and watch/clock alarms won't just get you killed, if there are no zeds about, they can still disturb your sleep as well. Very annoying waking up at 3am and searching through loot boxes/piles for the culprit, because it will wake you every night if you don't find it.
from what I remember, log are 6 hours, toilet paper are 6 hours and 24 minutes, just don,t use it to start the fire, only as fuel when its already light, because it would only give a start of 12 minutes
A tip that took me a while to learn in this game is that you shouldn't be scared to venture out of your starting town in order to get supplies. All you really need is a car and some food and your set, just make sure you have an objective in mind and make a little safe house when you get there. Then after you got what you need you can head back to your actually base all while thinking about the eventuality of death on the road.
Another tip when in single player: if you have come a long way, have a stash, a base and some good equipment on your person: keep a bottle of bleach handy!. This way if or when a zed finally get a grab of your shoulder with their infected teeth you can keep the materials you've stored all this time. When you get bitten go back to your base, and drink the bleach, you'll die but you won't turn, making it easier to loot when you come back later from the same file. Your base and body will be conveniently waiting for you. Alternatively drop your gear when you get bit somewhere nearby (that's easy to remember), strip yourself asap and then run away while yelling with Q. This will draw hordes away from your dropped stash and chase you to wherever you can lead them before getting swarmed or turning yourself. Just remember where you drew the masses so you don't cross paths on your way to reclaim your previous players loot :) just remember you can keep the gear you've accumulated if you create a new player from the end screen as opposed to starting out new from the main menu. You don't keep your stats and skills, but saving a base and a bunch of loot will save you a little frustration and disappointment when your time does come.
5:33 if you have a hammer, pick up the floor tiles (plural since z's can move diagonally), then disassemble the floor to make a whole so z's can't cross. effectively removing the stairs without a sledgehammer
When being followed by a conga-line of Zeds, after you break line-of-sight with them, wait for 3-4 seconds behind the wall/door/ect, before continuing, or they will maintain their tracking and continue to follow you for much longer and from farther away. These few seconds spent, will save you a lot more time escaping the dead by breaking their tracking sooner, and from closer range.
Thanks for passing on the door flash tip, it's a lifesaver & I reckon everyone should know it. I first learned it from either Private Lime or Nurse iirc. It's not without flaw, especially if the room you're door-flashing has a ton of deadspace (like corners or behind furniture) but it'll help you get an idea of where to focus as you enter. Alternatively, you could try knocking (no, seriously). I don't normally do that because it gets their attention & I'm a shy boi, but it has its utility. When aiming, spacebar the door & you should shove it (this shouldn't open the door right away, but again, I don't knock often so I could be wrong. Maybe try walking backwards as you hit the door so there's less force on the door). Once you knock, wait a couple seconds & see if anything starts knocking back. If it does, get back & prep for a fight, or get the hell out of dodge. In addition, there are certain crafty ways to barricade stuff. Certain things, like microwaves & TVs, are unbreakable by zombies (to the best of my knowledge at time of writing). Gather up enough of these and you can block off any exit or create a small safe area for you to practice shooting from. In addition, if you open a door, then place heavy furniture behind it (eg. armchair, bookcase), zombies may not be able to break through (I heard this somewhere ages ago, can't confirm if it still works). I used to do this when I played regularly; it was more a stopgap until I could break the stairs. Anyway, hopefully these tips help someone. Hopefully they still work, too.
After too many hours of playing I have to respectfully bring some correction to what you have said. Unless you swing your weapon on the door just shoving it will not damage the door. There is a trait called martial art that allow you to do some damage while shoving zombies but I don't know if it would damage the door. As for microwaves and TV's they are not unbreakable anymore. The zombie still need to get threw the appliance before continuing but as of now they are sadly very destructible. Better try the fence box fence to stop the zombies. It seem to cause problem with their pathing. They don't go over the fence because there is a box and a fence on the other side and they don't destroy the fence because they " can " go over it. Again like you said yourself unless something has changed. Have a very nice day.
@@1973Louis hey man, never got the notification for your reply for some reason, but I appreciate you correcting the info I got wrong. Cheers dude, have a good one
Does anyone else cringe when the player enters a window while broken glass is still on the frame? Eurogamer, there is a prompt to "Remove broken glass" when right clicking on broken windows with ANY weapon equipped. Unless you want to risk deep wound and lodged glasses in the character's body.
It was an issue a while ago but they've long since fixed that plumbing bug. The rain collector doesn't have to be up and over by one to be connected to a water fixture. Just up and adjacent, including directly above.
I use the door backpedal, this works even for doors that are being banged on: -Hold aim with your melee weapon equipped -Move towards the door until you are at the maximum distance to open it -Open it with e -Immediately press backwards while keeping your view on the door -smack anything that comes through.
I always knock on a door first thing once inside a house with no zeds around outside. Zombos inside the house will be aggrod and will knock on doors, and generally keep you safe from surprises
@@newerest1 not really, if you don't panic you can continue back pedalling and hitting them until you have a clear path to run away. I've done it for a few of the events like the house party.
As someone who survived a month and has about 120 hrs under my belt here's some of my tips 1- to me it's best to pick if your a scavenger or a survivor if your a scavenger foucs on compat skills and scaveng at first and grid those skills and then move to skills like trapping and farming when you have the time to grind other things besides compat stuff 2- always have things to do...on your off days were you don't want to leave or base don't waste your time by fast forwarding time and do stuff like reading/watching vch shows for skill or grind indoor skills like reloading 3- guns aren't completely useless you know that i know at one point you heard "guns are a death sentence" but they aren't...not completely at least The easiest way to level aiming is to use shotguns because more damge= more xp Plus you can use them and level 0 4- use attachments for your guns Right now I'm level 3 aiming and can use a rifle from a good range and guns for hordes are like magic...use stuff like lasers and a scope but Keep in mind some scopes will let you shot further but your gun will be useless when close and personal with zeds...so keep a glock or a knife on your belt just in case 5- Don't lead hordes to neighborhoods that you might base up in/need to loot your trying to get rid of a big HUGE horde and you get the bright idea to lead them to the next neighborhood The plan works just fine but a couple of weeks later You have a deep wound and don't have a surgical needle and the only pharmacy is infested with zeds form that horde you lead...you die from infections and bleeding :) 6- confidence is great...but it'll kill you By now taking out 5 zeds at a time is ez ... but please always keep a keen ear and check behind you Zeds from behind have a bigger chanse to bite your neck that's because your character can't push them back 7- you hate opening your menu to turn off your hand watch alarm? Me too But did you know you can turn it off by clicking the bell icon next to the time? I found this out last night and i was blown out by knowing this and was so happy These are my tips and they're pretty beginner tips but i wanted to let yall know them...god luck out there survivor
Are you sure that barricades "attracts" zombies? For my experience they'll only destroyed players walls and barricades when they hear (that include generators) or see you. It's also possible that free roaming zombies will attack players stuff just because it's blocking their way (even when player is not present)
Solid observations by you, her information is incorrect. Zombies are always moving around (even when idling). Their pathfinding knows where default objects are, and thus they know how to get around obstacles that have always been there. But if the player builds (or even just moves) something, he creates an obstacle for the zombies they can't path around - their pathfinding AI doesn't know that this "new" object is there. So instead of going around it, they will go through (and break) it. If you build a wall covering a gap that could've been used by zombies before, and then see a zombie go straight to your new wall and break it, you gotta keep in mind that the zombie was NOT attracted by or "beelining" towards the player-generated wall. It was "beelining" towards the gap his AI assumes will still be there - but it wasn't attracted by the gap either. It was either attracted by something beyond the gap, (earlier noise, meta-event, usual stuff), or it wasn't attracted by anything, and is simply moving around while idling - according to the rules of how group dynamics are set in the options menu.. TLDR: the zombie's pathfinding AI is not attracted by the player-built object that currently sits on the map, only the zombie's pathfinding is trying to get through open space that used to be there where the player-built object is now.
No I believe she's right as on the wiki and reddit I've heard of zombies patching to player built objects so they are supposed to attack it although this can be buggy
@@fatjuggler8885 it's a setting in sandbox options, but by default the zombies do not automatically path towards player built structures (on the normal apocalypse settings).
No I've seen it firsthand. I wanted to see how well I could defend the Louisville police station on max pop. When I spawned in (using modded Louisville spawns) and turned on ghost mode so zombies couldn't see me, I began building metal fences around the police station. A horde noticeably turned and came over to attack the one piece of fence and they were almost completely out of view for me.
When you're not concerned about stamina and precision, you can use the fast smash trick, which still works The way I use it is I hold RMB (aim button) and then I HOLD the attack button (LMB). As I am in the loop of attacking, I spam quickly (but not too quick) space button. This removes recovery time and you can attack much faster. Sometimes your character makes a push (if you do the trick wrong) but as long as you keep a good distance, you can make a use of this trick
Honestly, in my personal experience the police stations are not worth it. They are packed with Z's and the guns inside usually aren't automatic and the noise will attract even more Z's. Instead, go for fire stations, which are usually not as packed and contain alot of melee weapons and even first aid items. In one of my playthroughs I even made it my base, before I left pork in the oven and it burned down (ironic i know, the fire station burning).
What in the world... I'm playing Project Zomboid and running this in the background, and as soon as you said "alarm" the window of the house I opened set one off... I had to pause, and inspect test it to see if it was a sound effect in the video, but man what crazy timing! I'll try to remember to let ya know if I get dead.
Just a tiny correction, for access to healing plants like lemongrass you can also loot magazine racks and bookcases and possibly find "The Herbalist" magazine. This teaches you the herbalism skill without spending points on the perk. (although choosing the perk eliminates RNG in finding it). And knowing the skill also allows you to identify which berries and mushrooms you forage for are poisonous, so you can eat them with confidence.
I always try and have an escape car a street or two way from my base, fully gassed up with a few cans of food, bottle of water and a 9mm with a bit of ammo. Only had to use it twice, but always have an escape plan
Here is something I have started doing ;When I build a wall ,at the entrance point I will always build a little maze behind with one or two doors in it. Zeds seem to really focus on doors, so this can mess up their path finding and buy you sometime. More than once I have come home from a looting run to find my main enterance breached, and sometimes they will even have made it through the second door......but my new friends will be corralled in the maze hiving me time to rest up and dispatch them .
Maaaan, who knew that TP is a top tier fuel. On the last run with my buddy we stumbled upon a house which was packed with it. Like every shelfs, wardrobes and even fridge was fully stocked with TP some of it was just lying on the floor or the tables. We were joking around like “OMG covid came here too” and just left the place.
I got infected because I was out at 2 am in a rainstorm grinding mechanics skill. I had two box trucks and a trailer loaded with ammo ready to roll out. So yeah NEVER get cocky!
A few additions: Don't run unless absolutely necessary; walk and speed up time for faster travel, as you will not get tired as fast. Don't stop moving while fighting. If you plant your feet, you are (more)vulnerable. Don't loot *everything* initially, save some stuff for later after you're established. Mark your map. Don't wait for electricity and water to shut off; build rain collectors and gather generators and gas early. Unload and reload guns while watching TV to get reload skill. Also, some video tapes will give you small amounts of "gun" skills. Hiding inside buildings makes helicopter events end sooner. But this will also still draw zombies to that location.
You can use the door flash, with enough practice, to let a couple of zombies through at a time when there is a nice pack banging on the door. Just be careful the rest don't bust through the door and swarm you while you're cracking some skulls.
@@serhat.I Considering you can't build anywhere that's already built, it's still useful info to know that zombies are more likely to smash up anything you build on the ground.
@@nightcatarts well yeah but still better than unbarricaded windows and doors. A small chance of unprovoked attacks vs high chance of being seen or heard and getting overrun
@@nightcatarts in close radius, yes but I don't think it's louder than attacking doors so you should be good after securing nearby area. from my experience metal doors are more prone to attracting zeds. safe house barricades can be optional but base barricades are essential.
How is died via overconfidence: 1) I consider myself a pro zombie killer 2) I didn't notice i was fatigued after working out 3) I tried fighting off 4 zombies. When I pushed and it didn't do anything, I knew... I fkd up
Yeah overextending myself has been the #1 reason for most of my deaths. I just overwork my character and don't hold anything back when it's time to fight, especially on occasions when I didn't expect to have to fight. Two zombies can easily kill an exhausted/tired character.
I have one tip I've been using which I kind of picked up myself and actually helps me a lot. Since my keyboard is a bit damaged, sometimes, when I try to doorflash, either the E may only work once or it may work a third time by itself, so I avoid doing it. Instead, I started pressing E and immediately pressing spacebar to shove. Often I will just "push air", but this way, if there is a Z on the other side, they will be pushed immediately(which can give me a lot more time to close the door with E again if there are many) and that also gives me a lot more safety not to be grabbed or attacked immediately. It is a LOT more reliable than pressing E twice for a door flash and so far haven't failed me even once.
Pin your inventory and nearby items so they're always open. It's way easier to find random items like keys when they pop up automatically. You can drag the edges of the boxes to resize them.
Tip #1 key bind the yell button to something far away from accidental hitting it. #2 at level 5 electric you can use electronic scrap to convert any lamp to battery power. #3 I think if you close windows with escape ropes zombies won't destroy them, not 100% about that one.
escape ropes can still be destroyed with closed windows. found that out the hard way. luckily it was only second floor, but it scared me regardless. The zed who did it wasn't even there anymore too.
destroy the stairs only if your base is overrun or in immediate danger. Sheet ropes can disappear randomly and if you are not lv 6 carpentry I wouldn’t recommend destroying stairs
Actually the sheet rope don't disappear randomly, if there are zombies around your safehouse one can get "entangled" with the sheet rope and destroy it. So if there are no zombies in the vicinity then normally you are good. Unless the dev said otherwise of course.
Another advanced tip: Kill everything you can The less zombies alive the less will come across your base or you The less zombies there are the smaller the hoards and yet no less straggler until they are all gone. If you see a small enough group for you to kill, kill them, in the long run it will probably save you. there is respawn but it isn't instantaneous (default 72 hours after last visit to a seen chunk) So at least every 3 days run a circuit and at least your base area won't have respawn.
@@dirgesheverish I have a desired population of 0.1, starting population of 1.5 and peak at 4 over 60 days, if I clear an area, it basically stays cleared but I still have to keep on my toes
As someone from the uk we don’t call the first floor of a house the ground floor We usually only call the first floor the ground floor if it’s an apartment, shopping centre / large supermarket or multi story building
When doing a drive by shooting dont reload while moving the car, as during reload the car doesnt stop but accelerates to whatever direction the car was going before reload
Great tips! Thank you. This game looks so simple but really has such intricate mechanics and detail. It makes most if not all full blown survival games look cheesy.
I found the toilet roll joke just the day before yesterday. XD I took screen shots. I also found a machete on back hockey masked zombie outside of a house full of corpses shortly after. I killed Jason and am now enjoying an early game no special area machete!
i don't know it they changed this but i think that if you shoot guns indoors the sound radius gets really silent, really useful just to go under a roof and start blasting with less noise, at least in one life i acquired a 9 mm pistol, and then used it inside a hotel, literally the zombies that were on the other side of the road didn't realize that i was shooting inside, i think it's something that some air soft players use to shoot their guns in the middle of suburbs.
Instead of picking up watches put them on replacing your old one the alarm icon in the top right will show you if its set and you can click the icon to turn it off. Dont take out the stairs unless you can rebuild them take out the floor around the stairs instead.
I always start Electrician as it seems to (well to me) be the most inconvenient to skill up. Plus you start the game with the ability to connect generators. Not sure why, but I had a hard time finding that particular magazine in my first couple attempts. Videos aside, mechanics are easy to skill up, and metal working can get a real boost going to restaurants that have lots of metal counters, freezers, and sinks to disassemble once you have found the torch and mask. Cooking comes naturally, and you get Maintenance skill even when just pushing Z's over and stomping on them. Saves wear and tear on the weapons.
Instead of opening the door for a second, which does have a chance of letting a zombie out, just press spacebar, and push on the door. it makes a noise, which attracts any zombie in that room to start hitting the door. alternatively, you can be inside of a building with the doors shut, and just yell. some outside zombies may hear you, but not a lot, but all the zombies in the building will bang on their doors.
the alarm clock killed me. I was trying to get to Louvisville as quickly as possible. Being unprepared in there, I was trying to be sneaky. Before i got to Louvisville, I picked up an alarm clock. Useful to know how the time is going you know? But, As i was trying to see what i can take in Louvisville, The alarm went off. And everybody knows the unplayable amounts of zombies that louvisville has. Haha
Speaking of one small slip up. Because I play tired. Because distractions happen. Because real life can get in the way. I turned off infection. That and isometric combat like this has always been funky. Even in my beloved fallout 2
Unpopular Opinion/tip here: First, turn on the TV to Life and Living, and turn down the volume, watch the cooking show (0600), then go kill a few zombies and find a watch. at 1200 go watch woodcraft, and at 1800 go back and watch Exposure Survival. Do this at these times every single day, no matter what house you are in, so long as it has a tv, and if there isn't a TV, go find one roughly 20-30 mins before the show will start. This is free exp that you can't get after the first week or so, and can only substitute with found VHS tapes. Find skill books and read them whenever you can before watching the TV, the boosts are worth it, even if it cuts down on your scavenging time.
There's an option to reset time speed when you finish a task it's handy if you use f4 and f6 to speed up time and don't want to click the normal time speed icon.
To level mechanics easily, look for the Car Zone VHS tapes in Video Stores. Read Mechanics Vol 1 before watching the first episode, Vol 2 for the second etc. 2 tapes got me to level 3 in no time.
I Suggest everyone to have 1 massive main base and then have a lot of smaller hide outs/stash homes with just a few medical supplies and food to last you a couple of days... I Also use a first aid kit to store some water, bandages and some food and put that in the glove box of your current car your using. when you switch to a different car grab it and put in the glove box. also grab EVERY lugwrench and jack you find and put them in the trunk of your car. I ALWAYS have a set in my trunk because nothing sucks more then having a tire blown or damaged and you have to scavenge for some. tyres are always easy to find because you can just use any car. Also keep up with your tyre pressure. You should have a pump at every safehouse. and mark every generator you find, even if you have 10 marked still keep doing it because you never know when you might need one and you can just grab the closest one
My next mission is to find a supermarket and take as find as many condiments as possible. Don't want my guy only eating unseasoned potato and cabbage soup on his deathbed.
Left Alt seems useless, but is also used for sprinting, in accompaniment with forcing your character to look down. Have you ever swung at the air when attempting to beat a zombie who's already on the ground? You hold left alt while aiming at the grounded corpse and you'll never have that problem again.
I didn't know this until I had about 200 hours, but you can add ARMOR to your clothes with a needle, thread, and leather. You need to level up Tailoring to make it useful, though.
If being chased by zoms and you are trying to looking through boxes or somethings inventory. And you don't have time to stop and look through the inventory. Tip only works in solo player mode. But while standing there looking, press pause, while in pause you can look at the inventory and move things as you want while the game is paused. Once done hit play and everything is moved in an instant and you are able to continue running for you life!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
Don’t know if it counts as a tip, but don’t fill your car seats with stuff, if zombies surround your side of the car, and stuff is in the passenger seat, you can’t move and escape without the risk of being bitten
That was a useful tip actually. It matters cause there was a incident where I almost died due to being unable to open the side door as there were stuff inside the car.
300 mins or 5 hours for one toilet paper roll 😂 they should fix that just tried it for shits and gigs(outside of course) was on fire for 2 and a half mins and red hot for maybe five idk im drunk still makes no sense for the most realistic zomboid game ever yet they still dont let you start a fire with money witch would be the only use for it who doesnt want to light there smoke with a bill (would be cool bonus) my laptop was broke for 2 years but i started in 2020 Alittle before tje animation update that made the game popular (doubt anyone will read this 21 beers in 😅
Generators attract zombies, even if they’re on a second/third floor, they’ll mill around beneath it. Building out a sky bridge with wooden floors from your second/third story window and placing the generator just far enough away, you can keep your base fully powered and have a nice little zombie attraction circle/dance party far enough away from the base that you have time to get down safely to dispatch them. Good luck out there, survivors! 🫡
I am not sure that is true or have been true. I think it was either bugs or mistakes from the players. You know like not having the right tool or pipe. Anyway, I think putting your sink inside your safehouse is just more convenient, thus making sure the sink is enclosed.
keep a fire extinguisher in the house near the exit, its not something that anyone thinks about until the one in a million chance it happens and its too late
a better method instead of knocking down the stairs is to take out the tiles on top of the stairs. Even if you were to die knock on wood you can always get back in by just having to build one floor tile instead of level 6 carp stairs.
Tip: run a sandbox not default. Other tip: Those who dare, win. Yes it's best to play it safe but everyone loves pulling a broadie. In truth zombies are weak af. If you got 1,200 hours in, you know this. Zombies have no superior organization or cooperative capacity whereas you have unity of thought and vision. You have to be willing to make mistakes to learn and that is different than being reckless. TY Eurogamer for the effort in your video production and presenting a really fun game in a good light.
I don’t know if this breaks the game for you but a small wooden fence with a wooden crate behind it breaks the path finding of the zombies. They see you but they get stuck walking towards it, you can kill them with guns or spears and they are not even trying to break it. As for sheet ropes create 2 or 3 tiles of wooden floor outside your window and then add a wooden fence to put your sheet rope thus avoiding blind spots and nasty surprises.
Don't smash the stairs. Smash the floor tile at the top of the stairs. If you lose access to your secure upper floor dwelling, you will only need to place a wood floor tile. Rebuilding stairs costs a lot of resources and requires high carpentry skill. I repeat: DON'T smash the stairs!
Meh i RUN AND GUN BABY. Only bad thing about that strategy is when the gun jams in a heavy pop location. And a tip climbing the top roofs or louiville to snipe zombies DOES NOT WORK. hell even a pipe bomb didnt work so much wasted time to clear the building barricade and make my last stand there
any chance theres going to be a lategame survival tips episode? i used to play the game religiously, with and without mods, had some unmodded characters go almost 3 years, and one modded character go 5 years so i have some tips from memory
I don't get it to be honest.... I played on apocalypse (is that somehow easier?) and well, after killing my first 5 characters to newbie mistakes and cautious gameplay.... I got to a state that I cannot lose in. Like... I got an infinite amount of water (lake) which I can purify (cooking) a small forest right outside, crops at the lake - easy watering. and most importantly: no zombies. at all. I heard the helicopter when it arrived and hid in my house (I was quick) so I skipped that part and now I can basically survive there forever. out of boredom I took my character and just went at it. Just with good clothing and a firemans axe and killed 128 Zombies in 7 days. Got bitten (i was risking it) killed the zombies, ran back home, stuffed everything in a cubboard, ran outside, got a big group of Zombies to chase me. Died. New character. Relocating to my home (no defence cause no zombies) picked everything up, read some books, farming, cooking, fishing ... I got 3 cars outside which I could drive but why would I? There is nothing, absolutely nothing that challenges me. My power went out a few weeks ago, well, no lights but I can still cook with fire and wood. I could go and kill zombies, although I have a feeling they spawn back in low numbers, so ... there is no reason to clean a greater Area like Muldraugh of Zombies, the neighborhood is good enaugh. Help! What am I doing wrong?
zombies do respawn but you can get a mod like sandbox options and change the settings and set their respawn time to 0. Now when you clean an area it will stay clean. You went in wilderness and adapted, now you will need to prepare for winter but un normal game it will take too many days to get there so put a mod called seasons and they will cycle faster
You aren't using guns. 127 zombie kills is nothing my latest character has over 1600 kills. My aiming skill is high enough to wipe hordes with an M36. You have to get in some dicey situations to get all the ammo you need though. Don't forget to use Molotov cocktails. Also, EXPLORE this aint Farmville.
For the doorflashing tip, you usually don't need to flash every single room. You can sit outside the room and whisper if you're being extra careful, or if you have sprinters on. The door flash is mainly for small rooms that you know have zombies in them, but unsure of how many. I've seen small trailers and cabins with 20 zombies in them, or the occasional bathroom party with 10 zombies in a 2 tile room. The zombies usually will notice you, as one is already banging on a door or such, but the flash method allows you a small amount of time to backup and prepare to fight them all or run before they break through whatever obstacles are there.
1st tip is factually incorrect: zombies attack player structures if something causes them to try path through them, this could be meta events or that they see/hear you inside. They do not do it for no reason.
felt like a lobotomy watching a few minutes of this... "avoid getting bit, use weapons in combat, hide in buildings" really helping people out with those tips hahaha
This guide needs to spend more time explaining things for it to be an actual feasible guide. For example telling new players to use a sledgehammer to destroy the stairs in their base is TERRIBLE advice without explaining they need to have sheet rope ladders affixed to the upper story windows first and even then it's a risk as zombies can tear those ropes down as they walk past.
that was literally explained later on in the video. Also, it doesnt say it is a "beginner guide", it's advanced tips and tricks, so some basic understanding can be expected from the viewer, don't you think?
Idk what to even do in this game. Seems like there’s a group of 5 about every 40 yards I pretty much just hold w the entire time playing this game. Line of sight is laughable drawing a few from far away and crouching seems to not help much. Not sure what I’m missing. I can’t even get to another house to loot usually, just have to keep walking
The big thing is finding a weapon hard or strong enough to fight zombies, and then if you (as a player) are practiced at fighting them, they can be manageable (or even easy) to kill. The best tip I can give a new player is to use fences. Zombies who have to crawl over fences to get to you automatically go prone, and even with a weak/new character, it can be easy to kill a zombie laying on the ground as long as you are aiming at his head. With a little practice you can kill multiple zombies almost as soon as they go over the fence. Just be careful; if there's a big group of them, you won't be able to kill all of them as they come over, so you may have to lead them off a few feet and then go to the other side of the fence. Rinse and repeat.
Keep playing. Keep dying. You'll learn from each death. When I started playing I felt the same way, it all felt impossible and overwhelming. But now I have a character with lvl10 carpentry and lvl3-5 most other skills, who has been alive around a month and has killed 700+ zombies... a huge base with a farm and water collectors, a whole fleet of cars and trucks, and an arsenal of guns and melee weapons. I went from helpless to a frigging survivor, but it took a bunch of deaths along the way. It's the nature of the game. Don't be afraid to die, just learn from your mistakes and don't make them again. Also recommend checking sheds early on in the game for better weapons. A pipe wrench or a metal bar early on can make a huge difference in surviving that first day.
