Oh wow, even my subscribers number matches the pattern! :D I always think that the old decks, as opposed to modern ones, have been tested by hundreds of years by many users and they kept their shape. We don't have such perspective on recently created decks. Which would stay and which would go? We don't know...

That's an exellent question! :) I think they can be helpful for any classical TdM, especially because they have images of the cards. Jodorowsky-Camoin deck has some minor add-ons that he mentions in the book (like the egg on the Papesse card or a door on Le Maison Dieu), but even if you don't have his deck, you can work with the book. J.M. David focuses specifically on Jean Noblet deck, but again - he provides the images of the cards and so does Camelia Elias with the Zoya deck. So to sum up: if you're starting with Yoav Ben-Dov and Jodorowsky&Costa, it would be most convenient to have a TdM of type II, like Conver on which both restorations are based, or Pierre Madenie, Chosson etc. Most popular restorations are done from type II TdM, for example Pablo Robledo tarot or Wilfried Houdouin tarot. Yes, that helps, thanks. I just fell in love and obtained ($$$) a mint TdeM Rigel Press. It's a 1975 first edition. The images have some minor detail additions, but the big difference are the pips which show the four suits in symbols, very simple, like the Lombardy Tarot (which I love, love). The wands are little wands and the swords are little swords, not the straight and curved wands and swords in the traditional TdeM. THat's what I love about it. I also have the Madenie, and Grimaud, and Flournoy decks, but this Rigel will be such fun to work with when it arrives. I'm tempted to get the Millennium Tarot for those expanded borders. This book wasn't yet out when I was making this video, but I own it now and I think it's beautiful and well researched. However, to be honest, I've never finished reading it 😅 There's something about Caitlín Matthews's books that just prevents me from finishing them! But that's an individual thing, many people enjoy this book, I think it's worth recommending ❤️

Personally, I love Untold Tarot-it has lots of examples and is more practical and down to earth than many of the big text-heavy tomes that get more into the esoteric weeds. Both approaches are valid-it really depends on your personal preference. Her writing style is literary and very British, which may be why some people find her difficult to read, but if you can get past that, what she teaches is actually very simple and useful and she goes into depth on how to approach the pips.
