Bob I've still gotta get Inwatd on the barrel; round won't feed & slide won't close completely. Place a camera on the gunsmiths working for long videos?🤔

We will be getting deeper on feeding on more videos coming soon. We will be going over all the common issues individually to give better focus.

Hard to believe our grandmothers made millions of 1911 pistols that ran pretty well while our grandfathers were overseas fighting bad guys during WWII. Our grandmothers did good.

Yes they did!! They knew what real work and sacrifice meant.

This was very helpful, thanks for the video! I’m in gunsmith school and building 2 1911s. Both are older used frames with nighthawk parts, what a nightmare! One of the many fitment issues was the chamber ramp was overhanging the feed ramp and I polished a little at a time before I watched this. But now that I’ve shortened it and reformed the ramp, it works.

Thanks for showing this. I have been working on a new barrel for 4 days. I should have gone to a gunsmith.

I just stumbled onto your videos , these videos are so wonderful and helpful to everyone. Im a 1911 fan everyday of the week and this is what i needed. Sir you are doing such a great job. My training in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and physics drew me to your videos. This John Browning invention still reins in my opinion. Nobody will ever top it. Great job sir. Thank You

The more I learn about the 1911 platform, the more I'm like, "how in the hell did they manufacture this weapon for WWII....not to mention WWI??!!!" Why did I go down this rabbit hole?!

They trained with them in boot camp and if there were malfunctions the armorer was right there and paid by the taxpayers. I built a 1911 and then another and another and I was asking that same question. I don't have the same illusions I had when I started, that's for sure.

Does it do any good to high polish the feed ramp and throat of the barrel without changing the angles?
@fusionfirearms
@fusionfirearms 2 года назад
Sure, sometimes, each pistol , you have to evaluate what you have to work with and go from there. But, Polishing does sometime help.

Does Fusion use MIM and or cast parts in your 1911s??!!
@fusionfirearms
@fusionfirearms 2 года назад
It depends on the models, Pro-series Custom no. On the Freedom series, the frame, slide & barrel are all bar-stock and many other parts. the sear, disconnector & thumb safety are mim.

So what happens if you have more than 1/32"? How does one close that gap?
@fusionfirearms
@fusionfirearms Год назад
If you are feeding OK just leave it be. Generally a bit more will not hurt.

As a machinist its hard to watch that barrel dug in the hard jaws of that vise.....
@fusionfirearms
@fusionfirearms 2 года назад
As a journeyman tool maker that has done 1000's of then this way. It just works out fine. Don't be worried.
@vettepicking

@@fusionfirearms first thing a machinist does is make a set of soft jaws with vee grooves in them to hold round items for their bench vise. Never a serrated jaw, we are not plumbers...
